Were both of the northern CS against you/allied Egypt?  That sounds rough, I was able to stay overlord of them pretty easily in my game through good luck on quests and AI's not prioritizing envoys up there.

Short story is Egypt stole my allied city state and then deflated war on me right after our friendship declaration ended. Long version will have to wait: I got a temp Tuesday night and am today very groggy from the illness
