Thanks, we try to keep up but it's a bit spotty with 16 teams to follow.

Absolutely.
dazedroyalty Wrote:3. Diplomacy is a bitch in a game with this many teams. We both would have preferred PB3 and PB4 to happen with half the teams each. (Added benefit, another game to lurk) That said, massive kudos to Ilios for handling the bulk of our diplomacy!
Well in this violent world hopefully the number of teams will decrease rapidly.
dazedroyalty Wrote:4. Ilios pointed out that we may be able to gain back some ground if we can stay out of any serious military conflict while expanding with a thin (tho not too thin) army. Personally, I will feel pretty good once we can actually get an army if we need it. I.e. connecting copper and then horses.
Yep. You do seem to be located some distance from the front lines.
I have to run.

Guys, we're going to need to answer both Portugal and England soon.
Do we give Portugal the map of the world? They want to chat about Rome, what can we give them? I'm thinking they should head for Construction once they get Maths from Carthage.
Do we agree with England's settling proposal (they take a city to our SE, we get a city 4S of Horse site - they prefer no overlap with their city)
If you can give me a vote on this, I can draft the messages and send them off.

I agree that we should offer strong help to Portugal against Rome. At the moment, unfortunately, I don't see what we can do if hostilities break out. However, long term, we're definitely on board with them. If Rome attacks them, I'd be very open to trying some sort of commando chariot run to cut off their Iron and pillage them.
Re England, I need to confirm by looking at the map, but it tentatively sounds good.

Since this is a 3-way war, we will take the 1st 8 hours, then the Aztec's can play, then the Inca's can play.
Woo hoo! Hold on to your horses boys! Now it's gonna get interesting!

Yeah, I kind of pushed the Ottomans at accepting Ruff's request for help now, instead of waiting for Writing and Open Borders to arrive...
Here's an update on the situation up north from Ruff:

Here is the latest fun and games in the Inca infestation.
Again - a link to a post in my thread.

And a message from Krill:
Subject: Tech trading day
Quote:Hi guys,
Just a heads up, Oracle finishes next turn, so prepare for the massive score increases and a very slow turn. provided the turn rolls tonight, I'll log in tomorrow taking the required shots for my thread, select Alphabet, and send round the important stuff. However, I can;t offer Alphabet until you all accept Writing, so I most likely won't be able to send that until I return from work tomorrow evening GMT. However, I need to go the garage to get my car fixed (something funky with the alternator, in case you are interested...), so I don't know when I'll be back. Don't worry in case you think I'm trying to stiff you out of the techs, and don't worry about getting techs from each other. You might have to play the turn later on, but there is nothing we can do about that, after Maya decided to waste most of Sunday for no reason.
So, now it is time to really prepare for war. You lot probably don;t believe me, but this game is built along the lines of a proper Ladder MP game, and it will be correspondingly vicious. HRE are already researching HBR, so I suggest you prepare to slave out a few HA, and don't skimp on the axes or spears either. If you do, you are very likely to get 2 or even 3 v 1'd. Get out a sentry net of warriors and archers, and make sure you have a viable front city that you can easily defend from attack.
If you decide to build libraries, or plant up to 6, 7 cities etc, and don't bother building the military, you are going to get smashed into the ground (and in the settler case bankrupt yourself). I don't think any of the CAN want their allies to be weakened in such a way, especially if you aren't pulling your weight technologically.
The time of subterfuge is over. It's time for war... At least when we can get some units.

Rome is clearly waiting for Iron Working to arrive before founding their third city. I suggest we map the area surrounding the Roman heartlands, so we have an idea where they'll found their Iron city. Brute can move south along their lands, then swing north and east to meet Exploit, and head back west to map the north of Rome.

This sounds like a good plan. I want to suppress Rome as soon as possible. Once all the tech's get traded around, we should be able to get some serious plans in motion.

Message back to Portugal:
Quote:To the leaders of Portugal,
First of all, I would like to thank your valiant warrior for keeping the barbarian horders at bay to our nation's northeast. Bravo!
We are indeed researching Horseback Riding, with an ETA of T72-74, depending on our research, and we will have access to Horse in about 5 turns.
Rome has been on our minds as well. We now have a unit around their lands, officially heading towards Exploit, but in reality we are mapping the lands around Rome, so that when we get access to Iron Working, we can immediately sport their Iron resource, and plan a raid on the future city. This is assuming Rome won't have a resource within it's current borders.
In the event the raid fails, long term, I think you should head for Construction once Carthage finishes Mathematics. Catapults are the only early units capable of taking those Praetorians. I suggest you meet our southern neighbours asap. If you keep moving you warrior south, and swing southwest around the peaks you'll see in a bit, you will find England. From there Carthage is due west.
You are correct as to the map type, and we have a complete picture of the world, civ location wise. As soon as I can reach my team-mate, we will probably send this information to all Cartel members.

The magical turn 63 has arrived!
Henry VIII defeated the barb warrior which was hanging around the peak tile between Midas and Horse site, leaving him with 1.4 strength. He'll be moving on the roaded wheat next turn next turn, and head to DIM for Military Police duty. He'll be replacing DIM's warrior, who is currently on Horse site, awaiting the Settler next turn. Tricky moved north to cover a worker who will be chopping out a forest.
Our unit upkeep increased by 1 again, Emperor difficulty...
DIM is currently configured for max hammer. Granary finished in 3 turns at current configuration, but I might switch back to the wheat tile next turn so the Food bar can fill to half in time for the Granary to finish.
Midas, at size 2, is currently on a Worker. With the Gold and Copper mines, it will finish it in 6 turns, possibly sped up with a chop of another new forest (Midas started with 2 forests, now has 4...). It will run max hammer another turn or two while waiting for the Corn to come online, so it will finish a Granary and will be able to fill the food bar as well.
I'm not 100% sure if we shouldn't wait for Carthage to finish Maths (should be around T70-71, these guys have scary research capabilities). I'm currently leaning towards chopping two forests pre-maths: a monument for Horse site and the worker at Midas.

Well everyone probably noticed all the point increased. We now have every early era tech, and have gotten Alphabet as well. There goes our "underdog" cover...
Diplo-update: Inca
Subject: Inca war
Quote:Apparently Inca has dialed up Ottoman and asked for peace. They haven't contacted me. If I sign peace, then it will throw some of their units out of my land towards India. I am sure you don't want that.
I can hunt them down and kill them. Also, keeping them in a war might stop them doing what Inca should have been doing (settler spam). What do you guys think?
At a minimum, I am going to ask for war reparations (2 farms, 1 mine destroyed).
Ruff
Not sure what to answer, the longer he can bog down the Inca the better for the Cartel, but that means he won't be able to develop his land.
