Amusing, my signature on CFC is "violence is the last refuge of the incompetent".
So what's your experience with Civ MP ?

Your start:
Fog does not actually lie this time, although you're certainly welcome to read more into it than is actually there

So what's your experience with Civ MP ? Not a whole lot. I played in a FFH PBEM back in 2014, and managed to not be eliminated first (I think? It was a while back, I'd have to check).
I've mostly played casually, LAN games with friends, etc. I have a fairly good knowledge of Civ4 on a systems level because I dug deep into a lot of mods and actually wrote a paper on its design for a class, but as far as the execution of competitive multiplayer, I'm quite a novice.

Interesting start, with resources needing : fishing, agriculture, hunting, AH. That leaves a lot of room for civ selection.
BTW are you set on a civ or a trait ? Or are you open to anything ?
Mardoc, can you confirm that the tile SE of the settler is a 2/0/1 ? From the geography of it, it should be 2/0/0
My own experience with civ 4 MP is a lot of games where I do ok or meh but neither terribly well nor terribly badly (I don't think I've ever been eliminated early).

No? Civ thinks it's 2/0/1, and I don't quite see why, probably it's riverside somehow despite being on the diagonal.
But if that changes when I save and reload the map or it's loaded on the server, I can't help you. Just will promise that the terrain itself won't change.

I'm open to any civ/trait combination, although I usually like Financial as a trait. As a civ, I know India has a good UU although the workers can be a little micro-intensive. What changes from vanilla have been made in RtR?

I suggest you take a look at the full changelog here : http://www.realmsbeyond.net/forums/showt...p?tid=8572
A lot has changed between BTS and this version of RtR. From simple things like pastures being available at hunting and camps at AH, to trait UU and UB changes (financial and creative nerfed, charismatic protective aggressive buffed), to building changes (barracks give 1 culture). So the BTS classic fin india you're used to is heavily nerfed here (fin doesn't count on river tiles, the fast worker is 2 moves but with mobility promotion).
If I was on my own and could get my first choice I'd go with something like Pro/Fin for the leader, and maybe Inca for the civ. The reason lies with the start :
We probably want at least one early game trait, to avoid falling behind. Those are (in RtR) protective expansive and imperialist. But at size 5 if we use the clam the floodplain the rice the cow and the oasis we'll have only 5 production, and the worker or settler build bonus from exp and imp only work on production (not food), which here would mean we'd only get the bonus when using slavery. So I prefer Protective. Then I like to add an economic trait, but pro/org doesn't exist in the game so second best is pro/fin. And finally Inca is one of the only civs that synergize with Pro/Fin (and they're good even without the synergy).
But getting Pro Inca is not going to be easy, others will want to deny it from us.

Makes sense, I'll take a look at the changelog after work. I knew Financial had been nerfed a little, which makes sense because it was really quite strong in vanilla BtS.
Why do you feel the Inca synergize with this particular start?

As I said I think this particular start wants Pro as its early game trait. And in RtR protective gives +100% boost to granary construction. Hence the fact that I'd like Inca for a boosted terrace.
