Adventure 4: Unaghy´s report COMPLETED

This time I have decided to read propery all rulles, so I dont miss any point by missreading. Also will try to break the habbit of playing standard game and try to take full risk of maximazing points through playing differently than usual. I will be posting reports as I play,
however I don´t have that much time to play it on daily basis.

This is overview of my planning for this game:
- utilizing NKISI by finding relic / artifact / great work (mostly great works)
- focusing on districts early in order to start acumullating GPP, especially Theater disctrict
- specializing on different districts by each city go get even spread between GP types
- getting to Classical Republic ASAP and staying there for as long as possible
- suzerain Stockholm for GPP if in the game
- getting Divine spark pantheon for GPP
- getting Mbanza early to allow more districts to be build by my cities
- getting Ngao Mbeba units for time attack of my neighboroughs based on GP competition
- working on district projects when needed to win over competition
- utilizing GPP cards
- building some wonders, however I would prefere military campain in order to slow my opponents rather than spending production on wonders

Turn 1
Moving Settler one tile to southwest to move from mountain and changing forrested grassland hill for forrested plains, getting better tiles in first ring in the process. Builder first build as mining will allow to chop & mine hill for better city production.

Turn 4
Met Stockholm, however not as first. Someone else needs to be very close to it. This city state is crucial for my plans due to its suzerain bonus.

Turn 6
Met Spain. No second city yet.

Turn 8
Found relic Book of Thoth in tribal village. Great start, I got major boost from it in form of 2f 2c 4g 4f 8t.

Turn 9
Met Norway. No second city yet.

Turn 10
First to met Mhenjo Daro for nice +2 culture bonus will help me to get to Classical republic sooner.

Turn 11
I have +6 with Phillip II and our relationship is unfriendly. Seems that this guy is not easy to befriend.

Turn 12
Found boost for State workforce in tribal village. Another lucky strike as this boost is difficult to achieve early in the game.

Turn 13
Cleared forrest and dumped 21 cogs to monument switching then to slinger.

Turn 14
First civic researched, selecting Discipline and Urban Planning. I dont need God King as I already have 4,2 FPT from relic. Also making disgusting 12,6 GPT.

Turn 15
Choosing Pantheon, very early. Lady of The Reeds and Marshes & Oral tradition would be nice, as I have 2 valid tiles for my capitol already and few more in surrounding area, but I choose Divine spark for GPP.

Turn 20
Unfortunatelly I need to research whole Irrigation as I dont have any resource around to farm.

Turn 22
Checking available intell - AI is ahead in research (7,9 b vs 4,8b), but I´m leading in culture (6,2 vs 4,9). They may research certain disctricts sooner (Campus, Commercial, Encampment), but I should be first having Theather disctrict, where most of GP can be acquired and for which I have bonuses.

Turn 26
My first trader goes to stockholm for science.

Turn 27
No GPP yet for anyone.

Turn 30
Met Aztec. They seems to be behind in science and culture

Turn 31
Running low on military. That is going to change with Agoge policy in play. Having 2 luxury hooked up alerady, decided to sell one to AI, particularly to Aztec for 6gpt in order to improve relation along the way.

Turn 33
I can work on 2t warriors and slingers, going to build them bunch before going for districts. Still no Settler from my side due to other priorities. This can be major issue later on.

Turn 34
First GPP from Norway for prophet

Turn 35
Bought tile next to Montain and jungle for Campus for 95

Turn 36
Cleared forrest into empty production queue and placed Campus using the overflow and chop resulting in ETA of 5 turns. Decided to finish it.

Turn 38
I need to wait 4 more turns to buy Settler in order to get boost for early empire. Interface showing now 2 for growth and 3 for Campus...

Turn 40
Capital grown to size 6 this turn. It knocked out early empire through boost and also fullfiled Mohenjo-Daro quest same time. Buying settler in capital reducing size back to 5 and starting on Political Philosophy. Switching Urban Planning for Ilkum in order to produce builder for new city.

Turn 44
Completed Military Tradition by clearing camp. Switching to Discipline to have better chance against barbarians and also switching back to Urban Planning.

Turn 45
Met Frederick. Phillip is now happy with me even though I still have same +5. Interesting.

< Second session >

Turn 48
Political Philosophy researched, Classical republic selected as government. Urban Planning, Coloziation, Chasimatic Leader and Strategos as first choice. Next 12 turns I wont be able to change this, so will focus on settlers and thus having Strategos instead Agoge.

Turn 49
Killing Barb horse archer for boost in Bronze working.

Turn 50
Spain found city in the location I wanted to settle, invaliding another spot in the process. Argh!

Turn 51
Germany declared war on Stockholm. That is bad news as I wanted its suzerain bonus. Decided to block Germany troops with my Slinger.

Turn 53
Building Commercial district in my second city after completing granary by chop.

Turn 54
Settler is out. Choosing between east or norht location. In the norht there is barb camp, so bit hesitate to go there, but there is more production.

Turn 55
Frederick warning me to not aid any city state, as if he knows that I´m blocking his units intentionally. Killing barb scout that was hanging out on my campus landing archery boost along the way.

Turn 56
GP points from me in general and scientist, then only Norway and Aztec competing for Prophet. Founded my 3rd city and bought builder there immediatelly.

Turn 57
Blocking Germany units did not help much. Stockholm is now part of Germany. I will free it in the future I hope.

Turn 59
Finishing Drama and switching to Diplomatic league following by finishing Mysticism to swap back to Charismatic leader after first envoys are assigned. Also switching Colonization for Ilkum, as my 4th Settler will be out in 1 turn. Decided to keep Strategos to make sure that first Great general wont be patronaged by someone else. Then next one will have more costs. Four more turns for my first Great Scientist.

Turn 60
Completed quest for Mohenjo-Daro making me suzerain in the process (full housing bonus for my cities). Assigning one envoy to Hattusa, landing 2 thanks to Dipolomatic league. I have decided to keep this civic in place for few more turns to allow my trader to be sent to Kumasi for completing its quest and landing 2 envoys instead.
In the mentime another settler is out. Sending it further north as there seems to be better land.

Turn 61
Stumbled on unescorted barb settler. Everyone has 3 cities at the moment. I cant believe it, I have free settler smile

Turn 62
Here is the city state screen overview. Planning to complete quest for Kumasi and then add one envoy in Hattusa to become suzerain.

Turn 63
First great person recruited Great Scientist Aryabhata. It will trigger 3 inspiration moments, so I need to plan its usage.

My progress looks good. I´m behind in expansion, but free settler from barbs will allow me to catch up with 5 cities in totatl. From there I plan to build up military and take some cities, especially ones that has districts I´m interested in or simply competing too much for particular great person.

Turn 64
Sent citrus for 5gpt to Phillip, as I have excess of amenities. At time when my cities grown more I will have one more hooked up (silk) and then deal will be over. Meantime I will enjoy additional income.

Turn 65
Double declaration of war. Both Spain and Aztec declared war against me, while Spain was friendly status with me. That much for additional income  crazyeye  Used great scientist to boost Engineering, Construction & Military Tactics. Last one mostly useless.

Turn 66
I have switched Strategos for Agoge, Diplomatic league for Charismatic leader and Ilkum for Land Surveyors to buy some tiles. No sign of enemy yet

Turn 67
Found my 4th city in the north and bought trader there to make road to capital city plus improving production for new city. Commercial hub completed in my 2nd city and started to add points toward Great merchant.

Turn 69
Another declaration of war, this time from Norway, it looks like AI is dog pilling on me  alright I can be dead in next dozen of turns, if they attack at once. Moreover, Harald is leading in power, while I´m last one, sent two heavy chariots and one archer against my 2 slingers and 2 warriors.

Turn 70
Building walls in Mbanza Kongo, ETA 3 turns. I would use great general now, however not yet have him. Here comes Norwegian units  cry

Turn 71
Upgraded 3 slinger in archers. Unit maintenance starting to grow. Building more warriors.

Turn 72
One Chariot is down without loses.

Turn 73
Focused fire and another unit, archer, is down. Found my fifth city in only fresh water spot around.

Turn 74
Walls completed just in time. Bombarding enemy units with city and units. Another unit down and other redlined. No losses so far. Surprisingly I´m leading in power now with double more points than second one.

Turn 75
Killed last two Norway units (archers) and stopped his attack. Still no loses. Building warriors everywhere and will upgrade them into Kongo unique units later.

Turn 76
Signed peace with Aztec and Spain for no costs. I haven't seen single Spain or Aztec unit, so it was phony war anyway. I have finished round of warriors, will use them as scouts for time being.

Turn 79
Nothing special happened in last turns. This turn I have noticed points towards great writer, artist and musician. My theater district is now in production and I should be able to catch up with all bonuses I have as Kongo + divine spark.

Turn 80
Signed peace with Harald finally. War time is over now.

Turn 82
Became suzerain of Hattusa. Oracle build by AI. I had plan to build it, but there were other priorities to chase.

Here is development of my capital city. It has nice tiles, mix of production and semi-production, surprisingly without pure food tiles (except of floodplains and marsh), which I didnt have to use so far.

Turn 84
Finished Apprenticeship, will start on Industrial districts soon. Got nice boost in production, as my cities are mostly having hill tiles improved.

Here is development of my 2nd city. It will be production monster down the road, backed up by rice tiles for food.

Turn 85
Starting work on new commercial & industrial district. Recruited Great Genaral Hannibal Barca (2nd GP). Need to build encampment in order to get GPP without Strategos policy.

Here is development of my 3rd city. This one has weaker tiles, especially flat plain tiles. Its still ok city, where I will work on districts and their projects.

Turn 88
Switching to Iron working to finish it within 1 turn. Lets see If I can pull out attack on Spain or Aztec around turn 100. Upgrade costs are 110g for each UU, so I will need discount civic for upgrades.
In terms of world ranking, I´m 1st in science, 2nd in culture, 1st in military

Turn 91
Alligning forrest chop into overflow from completed build, while using stored production into Industrial zone placed on tile after the chop. This is something requiring micromanagement similar to Civ 4 chop to pop whip.

Here is my progress in GPP. I´m covering Great general, Merchant, Scientist and Theater ones. Dont have grasp on Admiral, Engineer and Prophet. No prophet due to specific Kongo trait, Engineer will start soon and Admiral will start as soon as I take over Spain coastal cities. I´m accumulating faith that I´m not able to use, so I will keep it as emergency for GP patronage if needed.

Turn 92 overview of my empire. I´m planning to settle two more spots in the east on the long river between city states and start campaign against Spain.

Overall, I´m doing good. I have caught up in expansion, having most cities now. Also, defended against tripple war declaration from AI, becoming number 1 in power as result. Having first GP and lead in GP points generation sets me into snowball that I should be able to hold my position as a game lead.

Turn 92
Great Merchant Marcus Licinius Crassus (3rd GP) recruited. I will use him to acquire tile I want to build Encampment and to hook dyes 3 tiles north from my  fourth city.

Turn 93
Patronaged Great Scientist Omar Khayyam (4th GP) for 270 faith just to be on safer side, as Germany is closing gap quickly.

Turn 94
First to met Amsterdam, surprising. All great prophets are gone. Unfortunately, Frederick patronaged very next scientist immediatelyly anyway after I took previous one

Turn 95
Germany denounced me. Good for me that I´m just building my first Encampment near their closest city

Turn 96
Great Writer Qu Yuan recruited (5th GP). He will land two great works in palace.

Turn 97
Germany started to push great general points pretty hard. I need to put back Strategos into play again.

Turn 100
Big policy swap turn. I had to put Caravansaries in order to compansate for higher unit upkeep as Strategos is back in play. Also switched Urban planning for Meritocracy, as all my cities are now self-sufficient in production.

Turn 101
Moving troops to the north to prepare attack on Madrid. Building 3 siege towers for this attack.

Turn 102
Met Final civ - India. It has 4 cities, so I´m still in lead with 5.

Turn 103
Now I can have complete look on World Rankings. I´m leading in all but religion, but that is fine with me. I have1/3 more beakers per turn than second and double amount of culture per turn than second. Also, what is very sad for AI, I have double military strength than second, while my army is old ancient/classic era junk.

Turn 104
Sitting on 748 gold. I dont even need upgrade discount poilicy, however I will save a lot if I do.

Turn 106
Big turn. Swapped policies to Professional army in order to upgrade my army. I´m also using overflow from previous builds, chop and Colonization to build 2 more settlers. Upgrading my army to 3 crossbows (100g each) & 6 Ngao Mbeba (55 each). Including already built siege towers I´m ready to march against Spain empire.

Turn 107
I had to switch and finished Theology after upgrades in order to put Strategos back. Frederick is pushing hard for great general.

Turn 109
First to met Nan Madol, surprize again. I would expect that other civ would already met this city state at this point in the game.

Turn 111
Ready to attack. Before doing so, however, I´m thinking to switch to Oligarchy for +4 combat strength. My Ngao has 35 (+5 from GG) against Madrids 25 defense that needs to be enough. Keeping Classical Republic for GPP bonus, just switching Colonization for Town Charters and Caravansaries for Insulae to aid my housing issue in my biggest cities. Great Merchant (6th GP) Marco Polo recruited. Declared war against Spain.

My troops has surrounded Madrid on first turn. I have significant strength advantage of 40 vs 24. Result of the attack was brutal - minus 54 from city defense, minus 8 only from Ngao.

Turn 112
Denounced by Gandhi and Montezuma so far. Madrid, only city on the coast, captured without hassle.

Fourth session has proofed my prediction about snowballing into more everything. Added more districts, GP, upgraded army and having also 2 settlers on the way to found more cities. I have also started military campaign against Spain that is going extremely well so far. I can just continue building up economy and acquiring more and more great persons, while rolling trough AI in the meantime. It really cost me only paltry amount of production to build up bunch of warriors and support units, while focusing more on economy and upgrading army later. I even did not have to give up any great person in the process.

Turn 113
Great Writer (6th GP) Geoffrey Chaucer recruited. Sevilla captured.

Turn 118
Toledo and Coruňa under siege.

Turn 119
Great General and Admiral were taken by AI. Ghandi had to patronaged admiral, as he has no points on it.

Turn 120
Great Scientist (7th GP) Hildegard of Bingen patronaged, as Germany was really close to get him. I should rather attack Germany in order to stop them competing with me on great persons.

Turn 121
Toledo and Coruňa under captured. Campus captured. Added to mor cities in the east.
Here is the overview of my empire after Spain has voluntarily joined my cause.

Turn 122
Swapped Strategos for Inspiration, as I need to close the gap for Great Scientist competition. Starting on Mbanzas for housing.

Turn 123
Strangly enough, all leaders came to me at very same turn and demanding same gift.

Turn 125
Valencia captured, Spain eliminated. Got settler in process. I´m moving all units towards borders with Germany.
I need to attack Germany at soonest to capture cities with districts to stop their progress for great persons.

Turn 130
Great Merchant (8th GP) Jakob Fugger recruited.

Turn 132
Great Library constructed by Mbanza Kongo

Turn 134
Norway declared war against me. Just in time, as I have moved my units on my south border.
Unfortunately, Norwegian unit were able to pillage my campus. Still, I will be able to defend without problem.

Turn 135
Great Writer (9th GP) Marie-Catherine D´Aulnoy recruited.

In the meantime there is new patch out. What a pity I have already completed this game in the meantime, as I would benefit from harbors and siege units buff.

Turn 136
Defending against Norwegian units successfuly so far

Turn 137
Germany took another Great person - scientist. I need to make sure no more slips through my fingers.

Turn 139
Norwegian units defeated, marching now on Yerevan.

Turn 140
Great writer taken by Ghandi. It was actually patronaged.

Turn 141
Changing government to Merchant republic, as usefulness of GP bonus is gone. Great Scientist Isaac Newton recruited.

Turn 142
Yerusalem defense is 57 now (from 47) thanks to sword garrisoned there. Scary. I have to retreat my units and upgrade them first.

Turn 143
Made peace with Norway and got some reparations along the way.

I have realized that I took far too many screenshots and notes, thus I would spend more time reporting this game, than actually playing it. So, I will try to make them shorter and hopefully more interesting for a reader. I´m still learning this reporting stuff and its quite difficult to make a report as a story yet, that is why I still stick to turn based report. Furthermore english is not my native language. I hope I will get there one day...

Turn 148 - 161
Great Merchant (11th GP) Raja Todar Mal recruited
Great Writer (12th GP) Niccolo Machiavelli recruited

Germany sniped another Great General. Its harder to prevent it than I thought. Finally got to Industrial era and increased costs for getting GP from 240 to 545 points.
Great Scientist (14th GP) Galileo Galilei recruited.

Turn 162
Upgraded my army to 7 Musketmen, 2 Bombards, 3 field Cannons. I will be merging muskets to corps, as German cities defenses are at  57, so I need bigger difference in strength in order to get significant edge. Less units means also easier logistic , what is a plus.

Great Merchant (15th GP) Giovanni De Medici

Great Genaral (17th GP) Jeanne D´Arc recruited.
Great Engineer (18th GP) Mimar Sinan recruited.

Turn 172 -175
Ready to attack Stockholm. Finally some action  hammer  I have 3 Musket corps, 2 field cannon corps and 1 bombard corp.
Forbidden City has also completed this turn . This allows me to run additional GP card in wildcard slot. One shot from bombard took down Stockholm walls and 1/2 of city defense. Stockholm liberated. It even remembered all envoys I have sent to it until it was captured by Germany
Logistic nightmare starting now as I´m trying to move my units towards Germany empire, but bad terrain is in the way.

Turn 172 - 182
Great Writer (20th GP) Margaret Cavendish recruited
Great musician (21st GP) Ludwig Van Beethoven recruited.
There is no competition over GP at this point. Only possibility for AI is to patronage them for big costs.

Turn 182
Aachen captured. Buying trader unit to create road to my core cities. I hve split my army and now attacking two cities at same time.

Turn 185 - 191
Great Scientist (22th GP) James Young recruited. Steam power and Combustion boosted.
Great Artist (23rd GP) Titian patronaged.

Great Merchant (26th GP) Adam Smith recruited.
Great Genaral (27th GP) Simon Bolivar recruited.
Great Engineer (28th GP) James Watt recruited.

Turn 186
Frankfurt captured. Even without bombard, field cannon was just enough. I have realized only now from screenshots that I didnt need siege towers anymore and still kept them chained.

Turn 189
Berlin captured. Germany is not a thread anymore, so signed peace with juicy reparations. All captured cities were ceded and also got Bremen, some luxuries and 330 gold.

Turn 189
My empire overview after "operation Barbarossa". Next civ under my radar are Aztec, as they compete for great persons along with India, but are much closer than the former.

Turn 216
Tenochtitlan captured. Atzcapotzalco captured next turn. Xochicalco captured turn after. GPP for Aztec are now near to zero, however they dont wont to cede captured cities. It does not mater at this point.

Turn 220
Here is the picture of former Aztec empire core cities. Also showing city states screen, from which is clear that there is no competition either. I´m suzerain of 2/3rd of them. Now I need to bring India down little bit in order to stop possibility getting GP patronaged by Gandhi. Now I need to slow down my science and culture tree progress to maximize number of GP I can get from each era.

Turn 239
Ahmadabad Captured.
I have made peace with Gandhi to get all gold from him. Surprisingly, all cities I have captured are not under occupation, dispite fact that I havent conceded any city from Gandhi. Same story for Aztecs - made peace for some money,

Great Engineer (68th GP)Jane Drew patronaged.

Here is overview of my west part of empire featuring former Spanish, Aztec and Indian cities.

Here is overview of my east part of empire featuring Kongo core cities and former Germany cities.

As it exist saying "GP farm", I made variation to it with name "GP desert" lol I simply did not hove enough place where to display their great works or their ability was not wished (eg. more tourism, as I did not want to win before turn 250, etc). Note the city states screen - leading in culture allowed me to suzerain most of city states.

This is list of last GP I have recruited/patronaged on last turn mostly. Of course I´m ready to provide screenshot of all of them, if needed.

My collection of precious great works - look in the right upper corner for the yeld they provide  crazyeye And there is another page of them...

My final count of great persons stop at number 73. Would that be enough to be between top players? I´m not sure, as  I was again playing game in the normal way - I haven´t done anything crazy or unorthodox. I did not even built that many wonders, but I have conquered many of them anyway. I was expanding early and conquering my neighbors when opportunity occurred, while focusing my economy on district construction. In this regards it help tremendously that my army consisted of units built in ancient times and constantly upgraded throughout the game, so I did not have to divert my district focus on military units that much.

As much this scenario was interesting in the beginning, around turn 200 it started to get boring with high focus on GP/economy and running over AI easily with my army did not help to improve it. Maybe raising difficulty by one or even two levels may helped in this regard.
