Exodus was basically parallel to Genesis, so Babylon hasn't really settled towards us (Leviticus is east). Uberfish was towards us, Blake was not, so Mali's about 50/50.
France: Orleans, no. Their next city, yes.
HRE: Midas and their next city are towards us.
Carthage: Boring is towards us, Lakewood is not.
I was thinking more about the initial settlement, and not following (third or later) cities which would likely be filling out their first rings. Starting from the north and going clockwise:
HRE - Midas' Folly definitely towards us
France - moved their capital 2T towards us, a significant shift
Babylon - Exodus is towards us, maybe not directly so but it is fewer tiles from London than Genesis
Mali - Uberfish is definitely towards us
Carthage - I am not sure which was their second city. If it was Boring, then towards us.
We need a big sign somewhere, saying "best second ring land in the world".

I am curious what leads you to think so.

Cyneheard Wrote:Re: AF: Happy cap. It's not the hammer, it's more "why grow before the furs are online", since AF is already at 4 unhappy (3 pop + 1 whip).
We should figure out how to go over the ROP thing. One reason why I didn't want to include a specific "if they're coming to attack" clause was difficulty in wording it.
I disagree on switching to the nearer cottage. The farther cottage has more turns worked, so let's keep on working it to get it growing sooner.
It says 10 turns on either when I checked. you should check.

2t from having the furs happy online, and both London and AF are set to grow in 2t. This means we're working extra cottages in the meantime, and not working max food. We're up to +21gpt with this setup!
Next turn, we whip BR down to size 2 on the settler. London will finish its chariot manually the turn after, perfect timing to be an escort.
We met Exploit in the IT, not sure where, he's already ended turn. Probably from Gulliver, who I'm trying to navigate through Babs and Byzantine culture.
Conan went on some exploring, and found some resources:
None of our exploring warriors found anything particularly interesting.
Demogs:
Our demographics have come back down to earth, although being #2 in food...while not working 2 of our food resources is impressive. At max food we'd be at 41 food, just 2 behind the leader.
The 4 and -4 are clearly Portugal and a civ they've traded Sailing to. Portugal has 4 cities, so they're going to gain more than they give in trade route income. I hope that 55 GNP stat is on our side!
Power: Babylon's at 43k, Mali's at 31k I think. It looks like Babylon has about 20k in units, so something like 2 chariots + 6 warriors. Mali has 10k, probably 5 warriors.
I want to send Krill this message:
Cyneheard Wrote:Subject: Trading Power Graphs
Are we attempting to do this at all? I've got Babylon + Mali power graphs. Babylon has 43k power, and while I've lost track of much of my C&D over the past few turns, I think they should have 21k in pop + tech power, for 22k in units, and 8k being chariots. They do not have copper; it looks like they have 2 chariots plus a collection of warriors. Mali's 31k should leave them with 10k for units.
I don't trust my C&D skills to accurately determine our opponents' unit composition. It would help if we do trade around to all the teams graphs, or just current power levels if teams wish to keep their own power situation private, to include with each team whether we know the strategic resource situation.

I can attach the power graphs or not; that also tells everyone in CAN our military builds to date.

Also, we should clarify the Mali/Babylon ROP clause. They're right, but it's much more complicated to formally create such a clause.
I'm thinking:
CHASM Wrote:To Mali and Babylon,
We welcome this new NAP for our peoples as we move forward in this new and different era. We agree that a ROP clause which doesn't cover incoming armies isn't worth a whole lot, but didn't know how exactly to cover those 3rd party armies. Perhaps that we would all agree to a good-faith effort not to allow allied armies to use each team's lands to attack the other? It is highly unlikely that any of our teams' allies would keep us in the dark about the purpose of a stack of chariots, so this should prevent our territory from being used to attack Mali or Babylon, and vice-versa.

We noticed your Richard the Lionhearted on the edge of our borders.
Welcome to the lands of Greater Hyboria!
As a member of CAN, we would be happy to help you contact others
nearby. Ruff is located to our N and and India are to our NW.
Also, would you be interested in OB?
Enough Talking!
WarriorKnight of A4
P.S. Enough Talking is our standard sign off quote. See the attached picture.
We should just include our standard alliance NAP.
PS. I hope we have long enough to get levees with all our river cities.

Ok, so diplo follow-up statuses:
Mali/Babylon: Drafted response 2 posts prior, it includes a clarification of the ROP clause.
Carthage:
They asked for NAP data, we can provide that now.
They also wanted to start talking about a settling agreement: Hm. There's that cow/sugar spot, that's about it. I don't know if it makes sense to try to draw up a specific settlement line there or not. We're not going to be competing for spots.
Ottomans:
Accepting OBs and proposing the standard NAP w/ clauses looks good.
Draft:
CHASM Wrote:To Greater Hyboria,
We would be interested in Open Borders. We would like to propose an auto-renewing NAP (clauses follow, copied from the Carthage proposal: 43EP limit, no ROP rape, 10/11t cooldown rule, etc.). Is there a particular path we should take to meet the Aztec and India ASAP? We have need of both Masonry (Krill is giving us Mono to accelerate Monarchy) and Archery (HBR). If you have one, an ETA of Iron Working would be appreciated, so that we can manage our workers to be as available as possible at that time.
Egypt: See the proposal 3 posts back for that.

So I logged in to take a look around, and noticed that the HRE has a trade connection to us. Once we meet Portugal, we'll get +3 commerce per turn from 3 TRs with the HRE.
So they have copper, we have horse. Depending on where their horse is, they might come asking to borrow our horse. Once IW comes in, we'll see if we have to play the 10t-copper-for-horse-swap trick.

Thanks again for keeping all of our empire moving forward, Cyneheard.
All the proposed diplo looks good to me. Definitely looking forward to furs boosting the happy cap, and some foreign trade route income.
Conan's finds...2E of him looks like a very nice city site. On the river, dry wheat, plains cows, sugar, lots of river tiles. A bit far from home right now, and may get grabbed by another civ, but we should keep it in mind.
I need to login and take a look at the map -- just how close is Carthage? I think you are right and we will not be competing much for sites, but our mini-map still has a lot of dark space in their direction.

I gave Kyan a OKAY on the NAP since they were worried about their worker due to the ongoing ROP debate. He was chatting me up.
Demos:
We need ot make a choice:
That would be a nice outpost to the west with all those peaks. Also, Furs doesn't hook up immediately so BR is unhappy. However we can get roads quickly and BR will pop out of whip anger in 2 turns.

What combat odds would we have on that warrior in the forest? Would be nice to pick up another XP for Conan, but I would prefer not to lose him.
The mountains do tend to show up in little clusters, don't they? It will be very interesting to look at the overall map once we have more data, see what patterns emerge.
We got a greetings message from the Friendly Kittens (Maya) asking about milk and mice. They mentioned spotting a mountain in our culture, so they must be coming from the SE of London. We should send a standard greetings to them.
Demos are looking a bit down. We need to get our fourth city up and start it growing, and hope it doesn't crunch us too hard on maintenance.
BR will be OK in a couple of turns, so I think we just wait out the unhappiness. We just whipped there, don't think we want to whip again this soon.
