Opening build should be a scout, right? I'm thinking start with fishing for research as well.

Never ever have your first build be anything apart from a worker or occasionally work boat. not counting crazy mods like ffh2 or such
Civ IV is all about getting a fast snowball running and for 9/10 players that means building more and earlier workers...

If you start with fishing worker first is not necessary, but you need to know where you're going. The point of my sandboxes was for you to try a dozen different ways to play the start (until the first settler is built basically, which should be t35 at the absolute latest) before choosing.
I started with warrior first when I tested fishing because the worker doesn't have a lot to do before BW, so the point was to use the whip heavily (including whipping the worker). There's no need to build a second scout IMO, but warriors are always useful

So unless we reload for Dtay we're stuck with the high research start I produced in post 28. I'll write a detailed plan later and a summary of where the civ will be when the settler comes out. Ventessel and Tao you guys are free to try to do better (it's the whole point of doing a sim)

What's the civ's password BTW ?

GermanJoey accidentally set it to cheese, he mistakenly logged into our civ but didn't move anything. I was considering changing it to "cheesecake"...

So I am moving the scout south-southwest, and switched production in the capital to a worker. Unfortunately I had a scout turn build for the first turn, didn't know any better because FFH corrupted my brain. Screenshots will be uploaded to imgur shortly, unless that seems unnecessary since it's hosted.

Ok so I logged in to see what was what, first here's a screen from when I arrived.

There were three decisions to make. One was the cap build. At this point there's no need to go back to a scout or warrior. The second was the tech. If the first build is a worker there's no need for fishing, but a huge need for hunting and BW. But I think the difference isn't large enough to offset the fact that there are already 2 turns of research put into fishing. So I didn't change it.
The third decision was where to send the scout. Either W/NW to that forest to take a look at the locations west of the cap, or SW/S to that hill for maximum revealed tiles. I went for the second option (we're in no rush to scout the west, the first settler isn't coming for like 30t). And that's when I realized that Thoth (actually Krill) hadn't settled in the first two turns.

Surprise !

Krill's settler is now 8 tiles away from the capital. Great.

From CivStats, it looks as though you played only one turn despite being the last person to play (and thus having another turn available immediately).  FYI for the future, any time you're not at war or in a settler race, you're allowed to play turns back to back if you want.

Of course you may have had other reasons like wanting to pause to think and discuss with Adrien, or just to have a regular daily turn.  Don't *have* to play two in a row, just is an option.
