Sorry to hear that, I've played plenty of fun MP games here as well.
It's not always been my experience to have games turn this sour, but it has come up from time to time. I think people are expecting a certain kind of performance from me based on a reputation that I never really earned.

I don't want to respond to the gameplay stuff in the IT thread, but some points I will make here:
Agree with chumchu's post 100%. Whipping my cities to a nub for inadequate units does nothing except give the illusion that I'm doing something. Like chumchu I don't see the point of that.
In hindsight, I think my Astrology bulb was a bad idea. It would have been a good idea if I would have had an attack timed ready to go with the galleons. But I didn't put the amount of planning foresight into it. As such, it cost me great people for minimal gain when a golden age would have gotten me far much more

It's an old question that's never been adequately answered: when you sign up for a game, do you sign up to spend a significant amount of time in a losing cause, no matter what has changed in your personal life? On the flip side, if your continued fun requires several other people to spend time that is decidedly not fun, where is the balance point? Of course, the other extreme is that people abandon the game (or the site) as soon as they fall behind. As I said, no easy answers, but my personal opinion is that most or all of the people in the game should be having at least a little bit of fun, or why are we doing this?

The point would be to establish a reputation for future games, for deterrence. It makes you a less attractive target if a potential attacker knows Pindicator will doggedly inflict as much pain as possible on the way down. The flip side would be Jowy's infamous lack of defense way back in Pitboss 2, which clung to his image ever after. You're not obligated to put effort into a losing cause, but that would be the reason to if you wanted to.

T-hawk, I've felt that way before but my feeling on the matter has evolved. It's much easier to say establish your reputation and go down swinging when it isn't your time being essentially wasted in a lost cause. This game has been a two horse race for far too long. The map is too big to play well without a significant time investment by players who have no chance to be competitive at this point. And, for me at least, time is a precious commodity. Why waste it in pursuit of a miserable outcome if you aren't enjoying it? I've been in Cairo's position as well as pin's here. I see both sides but ultimately players will play how they see fit, as they should. While a spirited defense is more fun to read about its also an albatross around the player's neck. Do what's fun. It's a game.

I agree with you BGN, this game is different due to the huge size of the map and the extremely early date that the Zulus and OT4E got their early conquest leads. I mean, if someone's pulled ahead of you by the Ren era that's one thing, you outta play it out regardless. But when someone doubles the size of their empire for free by T40 or whatever? That's so demotivating.

Thing is, the game already has a built-in way to handle this sort of thing: resign to AI. That seems like exactly what should be done in this situation, for pindicator's civ to put up a reasonable defense of whipping without consuming anyone's time. The Civ 5 game did that for one civ and nobody complained. Everyone argues heavily against that in Civ 4 games, but an AI takeover has to be better than a player literally taking no actions at all, right?
