Hi!
No, I don't know the microprose guys. As far as I'm aware no one even knows who owns the rights to the game currently.
Open Sourcing, well, there is no source. If there was, we'd have it easy.
It's all disassembling and hex-editing without source.
I plan to release the IDA work files I have but that's all I can do. Maybe throw in some .ASM files of parts I've completely rewritten.

I must agree with the others, well done and thanks for the amazing mod. It's now edged Civ 4 as my favourite game of all time.
The only thing that would dramatically improve it to me is a higher resolution version, although I've no idea if that is at all feasible. I remember there was talk of the game almost being playable in the tweaker as it stands which could possibly support higher res graphics.
The other thing would be a new manual and player's guide, I might have some time coming up where I could write it with some help from more experienced players.
The mod deserves some media attention, I imagine some games sites might be interested in doing an article on the mod. I know Eurogamer like doing stuff like this and it is a pretty amazing story modding the game using a hex editor with no access to the source code. I honestly have no idea how you did it.

Seravy would you know if anyone ever managed to get CoM to work with the old MoM multiplayer shell?
I hope not because I would probably lose family and job. Those are overrated anyhow though

I haven't even heard of anyone trying that.

Playing a game with 12 sorcery books and specialist so expecting 15% spell cost reduction from books and 12% from specialist.
Sky Drake has reduced cost from 1000 to 710 (I was expecting either 730 if they are additive and 748 if multiplicative)
Spell Binding has reduced cost from 1000 to 852.
Is this a bug or am I missing something? Omniscient is my only other retort, I don't have conjurer.

12 books are 4 more than 8 so it's a 20% bonus on that.
Spell Binding base cost is 1200 I believe not 1000.

Ah right. Spell Binding has a cost listed as 1000 in the spellbook.
Is Chaos Surge supposed to work on Chaos units that you've created with doom mastery? It currently doesn't seem to, but they are technically chaos creatures.
Edit: To be clear Chaos Surge is being cast by another wizard, but the description makes it sound like it works for everyone.

Chaos Surge should work with Doom Mastery, however, the effect is applied in combat only I believe.

Thanks for so much fun Seravy. Would you consider EXP9I the "latest and greatest" version of Caster - or 4.01a? For purposes of my reporting back any interesting findings. I am guessing it is EXP9I that I should be playing...

yes, I consider the exp9 series the latest and best version. I'm hesitating because the changes have major impact - would probably need at least 20-30 games to be able to judge if it has no significant downsides. Specifically, the lower summoning costs, the new wizard banishment rules, and the new AI "doomstack" strategy are all huge but risky improvements.
But the last thing I want to do at the moment is spending another 500 hours playing this game to be sure.
On the other hand if people were playing it on youtube to watch, that would be a great help - there is no rule saying I have to be the one playing, in fact it's better for testing if I'm not - as I have way more inside knowledge about the game which alters how I perceive game balance.
