[SPOILERS] JR4 tries his luck in PB 37

Graphs and demos: Our demos are a bit weaker than a couple of turns ago but they are still pretty strong. Dtay has started to build a bit military so we need to be careful as the enforced peace is about to expire.

Not much time today (family coming to visit shortly from the other side of the world) but it's looking good. That plains cottage will be useful - good idea! - but shouldn't be needed in the next turn or two, so I'd suggest moving one of the workers e.g. to Muqa's forest hill next turn so it can start a road.

Alternatively, they could build a road this turn in preparation for one of them to move to the grassland cow and road there, assuming no Impis are in sight. (We'd road the bare grassland tile or desert hill after that; the purpose of the road would just be for tactical flexibility if there's border conflict with dtay.)

Note that dtay does have AH, but hadn't hooked horses yet when we exchanged maps - so if he has any chariots, they're new. Note as well that GJ still does not have AH, though he now knows where his capital horses are. We'll know when he gets the tech because the horse tile at his capital will become 2f/1h instead of just 2f.

I agree that GermanJoey should probably be the favorite in this game, unless and until we do something about it. Ventessel to his south is basically just food at this point, and GJ didn't have to do any of the work to make all that land available. Our border with him, meanwhile, is a logistical nightmare on our side but dirt simple and strong on his. We do have certain advantages right now, but we'll need to convert them well.

[EDIT: Also, I think we should have a trade connection to dtay as soon as he roads from FAQ to his capital. That would allow us to see directly which resources he's connected, and would also allow us to offer e.g. a clam-for-clam trade when/if we want to signal peaceful intentions.]

The Oracle was built this turn. I suspect Krill did it as he had an enormous score increase. Any idea which free tech he chose?

The workers near Muqa have a lot of options right now. I`ll think about what to do with them when I play turn 73. I decided to do a change from the micro plan as we`d rather 1 pop whip Toregene for an axe rather than 2 pop whip it. It should be at 23/26 food if we whip on turn 73 and have enough food stored to regrow the coming turn. Our axes could join the attack from the banana tile on turn 74 if we decide to be aggressive. EDIT: Oh, I missed that Joey has vision on the hill 2S of Borte so the other axe can`t join in until turn 75. Toregene can still grow in 2 turns if it works the shared hill this turn so I`m going to leave it at that.

Dtay now has connected his horses. I think we need a spear in Chubei soon as we don`t want a chariot to get odds on our lone axe.

TURN 73

Dark Savant has a scout close to Oghul Qaimish`s borders. It looks like he really wants to scout out the world asap. Dtay played a double turn so we don`t have to be scared of an attack from him yet. Another Great General was born somewhere! I`m surprised that the turn pace is not getting slower as there is a lot of fighting going on out there. At this stage of the game one turn per day is very good.

Joey withdrew his warrior. I decided to move after him to make it perfectly clear that we consider this area our sphere of influence. If he moves away from that jungled copper I don`t think we have anything to gain from going further. I`m glad Joey hasn`t moved up a settler so it`s looking good for now. The settler moved down to the furs and the military units moved toward the front, just in case. One worker near Muqa continued the cottage while the other moved to the forested hill.

Toregene is about to grow to size 5 as I switched it back to the unshared cottage. The plan is to switch to a worker next turn and finish it shortly. If we`re going to whip the axe we should probably do it this turn (or else leave it in the build queue for a while).

Graphs and demos: Joey now has less power than dtay. We have quite a bit more soldiers than both our neighbors. We have 3 cities about to grow next turn so hopefully we`ll close the gap to the civ that has the highest crop yield.

Definitely Krill: He also got a 12-point increase upon logging into the game and picking his free classical tech. My guess is that he completed researching Mathematics this turn as well, and thereby Oracled Currency. I'd have to dig through my records to make sure that lines up - I haven't been tracking him closely at all since it became obvious we have no land borders.

The change at Toregene is a good idea; definitely an improvement given the current situation. And it looks like you've already started a Spear in Chubei, which I agree is also the right move. If needed, we could whip the spear as soon as T74, but I'm hoping it won't be necessary.

Since we know dtay connected horses, I assume we have a trade connection now; is that true?

A note on the worker that moved to the forest hill near Muqa: If we will indeed get Mathematics by T80, he should be able to just start Mining, and the mine would be complete, chopping the forest for the hammers, on T80 itself, I believe.

In Oghul Qaimish, I'm trying to decide how we can safely chop the forest between the sheep and silver. (Preferably after Math, of course.) It's not a huge concern, but in combination with the force we need to bring around to the south/southeast to plant our ivory city, it illustrates the problems with the border we're going to have with GJ.

Hmmm, Krill and Ventessel still haven`t finished their turns. Krill was logged in for half an hour earlier in the turn without ending turn. Is he waiting for Ventessel or has he just forgotten to push the button? If they really are in a turn split now the turns could take a while (at least until Ventessel is out). If Krill oracled Currency he`s surely in a very good position in this game. I`m inclined to see Joey as the slight favorite to win with Krill in second place.

Yes, we have a trade connection with dtay. He generally has fewer resources connected than us.

The worker on the hill forest near Muqa could indeed start a mine next turn. We`ll find a good use for those 30 hammers. We still need more military (Chubei should get a spear soon and the island city probably needs an axe). Muqa could start on a library instead. It should do wonders for our tech rate once we have a couple of libraries built.

I think we might be able to 6 turn Mathematics (estimated time of arrival turn 79 or 80) once we work that silver in Chubei`s bfc again. The forest S of Oghul Qaimish must be chopped pretty soon as we really don`t want Greek units entering our borders with the 50 % defense bonus. I agree that chopping that forest is a priority. Maybe we could send down a worker or two after the cottage close to Borte is finished.

TURN 74

Joey pulled his warrior back again. It`s now out of sight. The only thing that could ruin our T77 build on the jungle hill is a determined effort to get something like a phalanx/settler pair to the jungled copper on turn 76 at the latest. And we`d still have a good chance to get rid of it soon thereafter. The axe was moved to the plains E of Toregene for maximum flexibility. One chariot is on the bananas while the other is a turn behind (it`s healing this turn).

We really can`t build our next two cities soon enough. The others are starting to get their 6th cities down. I still feel that we`re in a competitive position at least.

Working our silver in Chubei helped our tech rate a bit but we have quite high expenses right now. That`s the price to pay for having a larger than average military.. I feel that every unit we`ve built so far is necessary to keep our neighbors at bay.

Graphs and demos: Dtay`s gnp is starting to improve. Our mfg is really looking good right now! We`re working a lot of good hammer tiles.

Looks really good! Note that civstats suggests GJ planted another city this turn, obviously not toward us.

Our expenses are indeed increasing, but they're included in GNP, where we're doing really well right now. I agree that getting more cities out quickly will be key. Nambui on the jungle hill is a T77 target obviously, but do we have a plan yet for where Kokejin going to go? (Or are we waiting to get some additional scouting information from the Work Boat before we decide definitely?)

I agree with sending one of the western Workers to chop Oghul Qaimish's forest after they finish that cottage near Borte; what I'm not sure about is how best to defend it. Definitely something to do soon though, as keeping the whole frontier safe will only get more complicated with time, and it gets a little shorter once that forest is chopped.
