[SPOILER] PB37 Dark Savant tries not to be a blatant MP n00b

Turn 84 (775 BC) - Part 3 (C&D)

Score tally:
  • Us: +5 points for +1 pop in each of Sorpigal and Garrote Gorge (30 pop total); +10 points for 8 land tiles claimed by the first ring of Garrote Gorge for 20 turns.
  • Coeurva: +5 points for +2 pop; +3 points for planting city #8, Stygian Terrace (37 pop total) on the island we wanted to claim.  I wasn't sure on this turn how much force he has there.
  • dtay: +8 points for +3 pop (29 pop total).
  • Gavagai: +5 points for +1 pop in each of Bursa and Samsun; -5 points for a -2 pop whip in Bursa (30 pop total).
  • GermanJoey: +7 points for +3 pop (+1 in each of Seven Mysteries and Yellow Maple); +3 points for planting city #7, Minor Expanse (31 pop total).
  • JR4: I'm increasingly convinced I'm off here ... +5 points for +2 pop; -2 points for a -1 pop whip (29 pop total); +2 points for 1 land tile claimed for 20 turns.
  • Krill: +2 points for +1 (24 pop total); +15 points for 12 tiles claimed by the third ring of Room 101 for 20 turns.
  • yuris125: +2 points for +1 pop (17 pop total); +6 points for +5 land tiles. t89 edit: now believed to be +1 pop still (for what would now only be 13 pop), and +6 points for an Ancient era technology.
Gavagai and Coeurva are now both putting 4 EP/turn into us.  It will take a long time for us to lose graphs on Coeurva, but I'll soon need to put 1-2 points into Gavagai every turn to maintain graphs.

Coeurva's power spike seems to have leveled off for now.

Turn 85 (750 BC) - Part 1

Coeurva has in fact properly garrisoned Stygian Terrace.

There's no way to take the island unless we have a second galley, and it's more important to get island cities going.  It's going to be really silly if we do a poor job of claiming islands when we got circumnavigation, wouldn't it?

JR4 is now also in the business of making additional contacts.

[Image: t085-more-nonneighbor-contacts.jpg?raw=1]

We will make contact with yuris125 next turn.

I also feel I'm wasting some of the advantage of having gotten circumnavigation early -- I was relatively slow in planning island cities to begin with, and we're going to get our first one going late. I think we should emphasize planting our flag on several islands before it's too late. We have a galley that I'll be whipping in Sorpigal soon.

Turn 85 (750 BC) - Part 3

Sorpigal and Garrote Gorge, now with food in second-ring going, are both set to grow very quickly.  I'm thinking both should soon get on settlers to, to secure more islands.

I think we need a galley out of Castleview after it finishes its current spear; Vertigo is still not yet done with a granary and needs a border expansion afterwards.

We also need more workers.

I feel we're short on pretty much everything, really.  scared

t86 has mostly been played.  I'm planning to actually catch up on thorough reporting (I'm not done with t85), but it can't be tonight.

Some important news to digest:
  • Our galley with a settler and spear found that the island north of Harmondale can claim 4 food and stone.  Okay, that city is going to plant next turn (right on the stone -- moving off the stone would have to be to a forest whose chop we'd lose, and lose out on a second-ring seafood, in addition to the loss of 1 turn of island income).
  • Gem made contact with yuris125, who just made peace with Coeurva this turn.  yuris125 only has 4 cities, which is fewer than the 5 I was expecting.
  • Coeurva has a lot of units on their border -- there are nine that I can see.  Coeurva also just showed up with Alphabet.
  • Cheater Hater now has Ventessel's former civ running at twice the number of cities (those settlers must have already been in position).

Turn 85 (750 BC) - Part 4 (C&D)

Score tally:
  • Us: +3 points for +1 pop in Castle Ironfist (31 pop total).
  • Coeurva: +5 points for +2 pop (+1 in Dragonish Sicil); -5 points for 2 -1 pop whips (1 in Whitehall) (37 pop total).
  • dtay: +5 points for +2 pop (31 pop total).
  • Gavagai: +3 points for +1 pop in Edirne; +2 points for planting city #8, Diyarbakir (32 pop total).
  • GermanJoey: +2 points for +1 pop in Heavenly Star (32 pop total).
  • JR4: +7 points for +3 pop; +3 points for planting city #8, Bulugan; -3 points for a -1 pop whip (32 pop total).
  • Krill: +3 points for +1 pop (25 pop total); +12 points for an unknown Classical tech that isn't Alphabet and doesn't trigger any KTB t87 edit: actually it does trigger a KTB, so that tech must be Iron Working.
  • Ventessel: +2 points for planting city #3, Fairbanks (9 pop total).
  • yuris125: +8 points for +3 pop (20 pop total).  (I'm skeptical he actually has this much pop now, after seeing t86.)

I think I need to stop building quite so much military, since now we won't actually go to war imminently and we don't yet have Iron Working.

Our galley with a settler and spear finds this:

Okay, sure, let's plant right on that stone hill then.  smile  I can two workers on their way to farm the rice next turn.

Turn 86 (725 BC) - Part 2

We have full world contact now.

yuris125 has only 4 cities instead of the expected 5, and is in even rougher shape than I thought.  He's short on tech and resources and everything else I can think of, and probably doesn't even have the ~20 pop I thought he did -- he wouldn't even be able to keep it happy!

He just signed a peace treaty with Coeurva -- I have no idea why; check out these units near their border:

[Image: t086-coeurva-still-more-units-near-yuris125.jpg?raw=1]

Coeurva looks like he razed and replaced a city that's in what should be yuris125's first ring.  And that's a lot of units I can see, though the next city up on the menu is the capital and I'm not sure 9 would be enough.

Since we'll suddenly have stone, taking a flyer on the Pyramids at Garrote Gorge has become an option.

I don't think it's worthwhile -- it doesn't really mix well with taking Iron Working as your first classical tech, and we don't have Mathematics to get full chop value.

It's under consideration, though.

More likely is building Moai Statues in Sorpigal in dribs and drabs; I'll probably overflow into it starting immediately.

Okay, the game is underway again, and t87 just rolled.  There's what looks like another rush to play turns crazyeye so I'm going to avoid the game for a bit.

In the meantime, let me finish this up -- I was worried there we'd lose the game, but it lives!

Turn 86 (725 BC) - Part 3

We finished a chariot and a spear.  I'm going to lay off on military a bit since Iron Working isn't here yet and we're not going to be attacking anyone immediately.

I do 2-pop-whip a galley in Sorpigal.  I'm planning to load military on that next, head to the nearest island with gold, and have them hold it until I have a settler for it ready.

Harmondale is due to 2-pop-whip a settler next turn; that is the one that will claim gems and some of the jungle.

I start another settler in Garrote Gorge, as part of the "let's build less military" program, because we need a settler from somewhere, and because it'll be ready to 2-pop-whip by the time its whip clock expires.
