[SPOILERS] JR4 tries his luck in PB 37

Graphs and demos: Joey finally built a few units but we`re still well ahead of him in power. Our production looks a whole lot better now as several mines, including two iron mines) are now being worked. We`re shortly building cities number 13 and 14 if all goes to plan.

I`m considering going straight for Code of Laws here. It has a lot of important stuff for us, as already discussed. We need to be very careful not to leave a soft spot if we revolt to Caste System, though. Masonry - Monotheism is also a decent alternative, though I slightly favor going CoL. Thoughts? We`re at a very important crossroads here.

Maybe the missionary under training in Chubei should go down to Toregene now as Joey just got another source of culture and soon will get the option of building a Temple and Monastery to increase the cultural pressure. Let`s hope our vulnerable island cities will hold out for a few more turns. I have concrete plans for making at least one defensive units for both cities.

Also, I`m glad you liked the t100 ranking! It`s obviously very hard to predict the outcome with incomplete information. I think there`s an argument for placing us as high as 4th. It`s all very tight with 7 civs in competition for the win.

Wow. Welp, nothing we can do about that kind of pRNG, and when you said there was bad news, I was afraid of worse than that! Oghul Qaimish can build a temple after its Settler, and that should help a little. Also, I would work its mine instead of one of those lakes.

Heh, losing a city would be way worse than that random spread. I agree with letting Oghul Qaimish start a Temple next turn. It`s now working the mine. Don`t know why I didn`t work the mine in the first place. Right now we have quite a few cities and it`s getting harder to micro everything correctly.

Agreed on the difficulty of micromanaging everything. I gave up making detailed empire-wide microplans 24 turns ago, after all!

Toregene's borders will pop in ten turns without any intervention from us. It's not going to lose anything in its second ring.

How many turns would Code of Laws take to research right now? And how much gold would we be burning through each turn?

(Or rather, I actually gave up making microplans way earlier than that, and by 24 turns ago, the last one I devised wasn't anything like empire-wide anymore. And we've more or less doubled in size since then, I think! Managing a big empire in Civ4 can be a huge challenge, and I wouldn't even be remotely up to this game's turn-pace if I had to decide and execute every move myself - or rather, cognizant of the turn pace, I would rush through every turn and make mistakes constantly.)

Yes, it`s getting more and more complex as we`re about to get to the middle game. I like to spend some time on every turn thinking about city micromanagement, troop movements and so on. For the time being it`s all manageable. Let`s see if I still can cope when we have 30 cities.. We`re comfortably 3 turning Code of Laws at max science. Iirc, we`re losing a bit over 90 gold per turn if we do that. The expenses are starting to creep up now. We could actually get a second religion here. Well, we don`t really need it but having the option of building another monastery is good. I think it would give us a free missionary which is helpful.

Maybe I`m too concerned about Toregene losing its tiles. Good for us that we`re still in control of that. Did I mention that I really want to get rid of State of Zijin?

TURN 102

I`m increasingly annoyed with Dark Savant. He`s already got a settler in place on that resource rich island NE of Kokejin. We were a single turn too late. It looks like we have to find another city site for our settler. We could settle on the plains pig just S but it`s a much worse spot. Annoying! His soon-to-be city will also enjoy a moat-like river so it won`t be easy to attack. Anyway, I moved up the axe in Kokejin to give us options in the coming turns. Also, the Barracks was whipped. Our settler is still on board  the galley. The archer will be teleported away, probably to the deer tile. Well, I`m always wrong on those weird mechanics so maybe we`ll have it out of place, who knows?

The Pyramids were completed this turn by... Gavagai! He revolted to Representation. Not exactly a big shock. He looks to be in a great position now.

We got yet another luxury connected this turn, gems. Toregene appreciated the commerce boost. The settler completed in Oghul Qaimish is on its way to the copper/clam site on the main land. It`s got good worker support. I think you mentioned whipping Nambui`s temple earlier, should we do it now or wait a turn to let it regrow immediately?

Joey built a fifth(!) unit in State of Zijin (a spear). Okay, we`re not getting through that.

Chubei started a settler as we don`t want to lose pace in the land grab phase. Btw, we`re getting out-muscled on the eastern sea. Maybe we should seek a military solution? Not at once but it`s something to bear in mind.. Completing Borte`s Market wil improve our economy a lot. I`d like to get Horseback Riding soonish after all for the flexibility. I`ll try to post a screenshot of our output at max science every turn. We`re still saving gold for now. Our expenses were a bit higher than I expected. I must have remembered the numbers from before settling our 12th city.

EDIT: Yuri got a Great Prophet as well. Maybe he`s going for a religion.

Graphs and demo: We`re not far away from the leader anywhere. Our gnp still looks very good. Note that Gavagai`s mfg went up a bit now.

TURN 103

As expected, Dark Savant built his city where his settler was last turn. It even has a banana in its bfc! I`m not happy about that but there`s nothing to win for us by declaring war right now. (The galley is 1N of the horses now). I`m still thinking about sending our settler to the pigs next turn. It`ll be pretty awful until it expands borders but we have a missionary in Muqa that could spread Buddhism there in a few turns. The galley`s waiting for an archer to complete there. The archer will go to Sugabala. The new city could work the forested horse until we expand borders. Decidedly not ideal but I don`t like our other options. Sending the settler back to our mainland feels like a big waste. We could send it SW of Radnashiri to claim some contested lands there. The problem is that we`re quite a ways off.

Krill got a Great Prophet that built the Hindu Holy building. Good for him. We should start thinking about making a Great Prophet ourselves. The big question is where the best place to run a specialist or two is..

Otherwise it was a quiet turn, we`re still looking at t104 and t105 cities if all goes to plan. We`re now researching Masonry at full speed. We`ll get a lot of overflow for our next tech if we finish it this turn. Next turn Borte`ll finish the Market so I figured that it would be better to research now and save money next turn.

I`d like another galley out on the western sea. It could be built in Oghul Qaimish after the Temple is done. It`s a bit scary just how fast the land was settled on the other side of our core. We desperately need to claim as much land as we can on the western side as the nearest neighbor is yet far away (though that can easily change).

Graphs and demo: We have a gnp 100 higher than number 2! That`s obviously not going to last but still good. Also, note that our production is much better than a few turns ago. We`re competitive basically everywhere.
