Thanks Ref
The more tiles I uncover, the more highly I value Creative. To that end, I decided to research Mysticism; it's just 2t, and we'll see whether a religion has fallen. This means I will probably settle the pigs/horse site to my east before the corn to my north or south; the only question with that location is whether to found on the desert and reclaim the tile thereby or settle on the grass 1N of that in the hopes of using those crabs.

Cre was pretty junk level last game with so many high value tiles that go first ring. Mainly it was for the border wars (although non too shabby there) Here it is amazing as it is pretty sparsely resourced and it makes a city pick up enough resources to use the first 3 pop without any happy boosts on. I would put it high here, probably fourth best after org/fin/exp

Where would you like your byzantine border city to be in an ideal world?

Hi Pikkl!
So, how's it going?
I hear it's turn 50 now and wonder if you could perhaps give us a small overview of your empire and I'd love to hear any and all thoughts on how you see your future and how you're going to win this?

God I hope Adrien beats Dreylin. I just fucked up and didn't realize there was a single shadowed sea tile six away from my capital; I thought they were all 7+, so I kept a complete skeleton garrison.
I would like to have on record that I am not doing anything bullshit like going 0% science and gifting all my gpt to Adrien, as much as I want to and was tempted. (Though, granted, I am going 0% science and just upgrading everything from here on out, because fuck it's not like it matters when half my science just got razed, and that way I can spend as little time as necessary in a game where my only purpose is taking up room.)
Not sure what Dreylin accomplishes in beating me up without actually taking land, but whatever; hopefully I can impose costs on him that let Adrien get to space before Dreylin can turn his Power lead into tech.

In the grim darkness of the year 1900, there is only war.
Adrien sent me a 5gpt for 5gpt, iron for iron trade recently, so I knew he was gearing up to attack Dreylin. My role was clear: I'm technologically underdeveloped, but I could be a thorn in Dreylin's side. Dreylin has equal power to Adrien. And this turn, the balloon went up. Adrien captured two cities in former-gingereagle-land (including one that I myself had captured; that city has now been owned by all four players in the game), and I captured one without many losses (decided to keep it, because the worst-case scenario is that Dreylin sends troops to take it back that he isn't using to defend against his equal-power opponent). Dreylin must have spotted troop movements on his last turn, because he shifted a ton of stuff into a city that borders both me and Adrien, so I didn't capture that one like I'd expected, but I have my troops covering Adrien's in that theater with plenty of air support.
This is why I rejected white peace over and over: so that when war broke out between the leaders, I'd be able to throw my weight in my preferred direction.

Yeah, that was definitely a mistake that came back to haunt me; at the time I was still more worried about your tech capacity and thought I could knock you out of contention, but of course there was the side effect of leaving a hissing, spitting cat on the fence next door waiting for an opportunity to pounce.
Peace offers were mostly optimism - can't get if you don't ask!

Yeah, well, when I first got into Civ 4 and read Sullla's reports of Pitboss games, one of my major takeaways was how frustrating it was as a player when another player, caught on the bad side of an invasion, just rolled over and stopped trying. Way back then, I swore to myself that I would do no such thing, but go down fighting. So after I recovered from the initial shock and horror, and you guys weren't ready to end the game, the only reasonable thing was to go full North Korea military buildup and devote myself to your destruction .

Oh yeah, go down swinging for sure - inflict maximum pain on the way - and heh, yeah I was thinking NK too.
