Caster of Magic Release thread : latest version 6.06!

The popup for Missile Immunity (on magicians, etc) says they're immune to nonrock and nonmagic attacks, but it seems that they're immune to rocks as well? I may have just been super unlucky...

Slingers don't use rocks, they use bullets which count as missiles. Rocks are from catapults, stone giants, steam cannons, warships, and air ships.

Its confusing, and I'm inclined to suggest to seravy that slingers get the missile icon, not the rock icon

Ah. Confusing indeed, but very good to know. Thanks.

Btw, I wasn't impressed with the stats on slingers at first glance. But holy crap, these little guys do tons of damage.

First off, THANK YOU SO MUCH for all of the work put into this game! I just discovered this forum and patch a few days ago, and it has rekindled my love for MOM. I received this game as a present back in 1994 and have played it... a lot. Like an unhealthy amount. But not at all for at least 5 years, so I look forward to rekindling my obsession.

I've read through the game play changes and played one game to effective completion, and have also started reading through some of the current threads. My question is, before I start jumping in with newb opinions that have been discussed to death before, are there any particular threads or posts on design and game philosophy decisions at work that I should read? Obviously to a newcomer the amount of content here is daunting.

Welcome! Same as me, I also rediscovered MoM and this mod a few days ago, and I can't stop playing, or thinking about it when not playing.

Sorry, can't point you to anything. New too... you see. smile

Welcome!

Design philosophy? I don't think there is a specific thread for that but I probably answered various question on it  before, so here goes...
-The original game's strengths should be preserved or even improved whenever possible
-while getting rid of its weaknesses and removing bugs
-particularly, the game should be fun to play and especially spells should be impressive, powerful, and enjoyable, but no element of the game should feel worthless (units, races, etc)
-replayability should be maintained or increased
-while game balance is kept as high as possible as long as it doesn't hurt the other goals.

Or something like that.

Or, we can go with the megalomaniac answer and say I see wasted potential in MoM to be the best game in the world (or at least in the genre) and want to fix it up to not waste that potential and be what it should have been. I'm a bit of an obsessive perfectionist so if I see something that's wrong but can be fixed I usually go for it...then end up asking "where did the last 5 years go" lol.

I've seen some new artwork in the game, and know there's also an anime wizard pack.

My question is, how difficult is it to replace artwork in this game? Is it something that's possible with a couple of instructions, or pretty much impossible for a programming noob? I'm a bit of an artist myself and think it'd be fun to have some new images in the game.

It's easy. There is a tool called "tweaker" on the forum made by ILSE, which has a "replace in LBX" button for replacing art in LBX files. It doesn't work on every file, but for units, wizards and about 90% of the stuff people want to replace, it's perfect. I used that one, too. Here, it even has its own subforum : http://www.realmsbeyond.net/forums/forum...php?fid=53

One thing to keep in mind is, you need 256 color images which should be adapted to the game's palette (the palette it uses for that particular type of image).

Awesome! Might very well draw up some art after figuring it out.
