Cavalry are melee 5 base.
Fighters guild costs 250.
University cists 140.
Can you check the price of catapults, wolf riders, steam cannons?

Fixed those, thanks. Also fixed Catapults, Wolf Riders and Steam Cannons were correct.

I'm wondering if there is some purpose to spearmen and swordsmen that I don't know about, as it seems to me these are completely undesirable to train, even in early game (when there are more important things to spend production on). Spearmen have no upkeep, so I could see them being useful as rebel control in some conquered, far away towns, but if resources aren't that scarce anymore, it seems better to garrison with halberdiers or something, who may have a bit of a fighting chance on top of being town police.
Not implying that these starting units need to have a purpose and role, just wondering if I'm missing something, as to me they might as well not even be there (aside from the starting two for scouting).

Spearmen : rebel control or to start a combat where you win through direct damage spells. Most useful for death and chaos wizards.
Swordsmen : If you need a unit that can at least fight weak enemies but have no time to build a fighter's guild. Also, to have something you can buff if starting with Life, especially the AI. I find these the less useful of the two to be honest.

Ohhh, that's actually not a bad idea at all, to sacrifice one on those difficult-to-judge lairs.

Its also one of our ongoing sort of side discussions that we haven't quite brought to light. Swordsmen and spearmen really do have extraordinarily tiny roles, but when those few cases come up, it matters.
I'm still unhappy losing orc spearmen. My orc garrisons are triple the price of any other race except dwarves.

It seems there are a whole lot of ongoing discussions, haha.
What do you all think of Klackons? I'm sure they're balanced in theory, as the +2 defense is pretty huge, but damn, do I find them unappealing to play. They can hardly build anything, and the only noteworthy unit is the beetle which I find very unimpressive in combat. Does anyone actually play them or like them?

They've had a few buffs, and getting hordes of beetles from hordes of bug cities can be pretty crazy.
I'm not a big fan, but if you like the bug playstyle, its pretty effective.

Spearmen should cost 20 and be more useful. They'd still be useful for rebel control and scouting, by virtue of being the cheapest unit. Same goes for Swordsmen.
Suggested stats:
Spearmen: 2 attack, 4 defense, 2 hearts, cost 20
Swordsmen: 4 attack, 3 defense, 2 hearts, cost 40
Bowmen: 1 melee, 3 ranged, 1 defense, 2 hearts, cost 30
I see no downsides to doing this. The early game becomes more interesting, instead of being a dash for halberdiers or other higher end units as Nelphine has demonstrated multiple times.
