Civ 6 Solo Reports

Civ5 AI was scaled back a reasonable amount. Tactical AI was so inept that players could feel smart about themselves fighting wars against superior armies and not losing any units - however strategically it was capable enough to make winning at deity challenging (at least for a player of my level). Civ6 AI appears to be flawed at the strategic level, seeing how it has absolutely no idea what to do if player reaches midgame in a remotely reasonable position. And I think it's a huge issue for a strategy game. You don't come to Civ to play an analogue of cannon rush defence in Starcraft

The Civ6 and Civ5 AI are about the same. Civ6's Deity is about equal to Civ5's EMP due to the level 2 difficulty glitch.

Civ5 AI is very much capable of researching at fast rate up in the late game. They certainly don't get stuck not knowing where to put all their deity advantages. On the other hand, Civ5 AI pretty much never declares war in the early game. They're not the same at all

This is just an illusion caused by the lower difficulty and Civ5 AI not getting as much free stuff. In my Epic game where I played Rome they were close to launching the spaceship at the end.

Impressive. I'll admit that I haven't played Civ 6 in a long time, but there wasn't a competitive AI in any of my games, and Sulla's latest report seems to confirm that little changed since release

Some of you may remember when I wrote this at the end of the PBEM4 game:

Sullla Wrote:Here's my question: would anyone object if I wanted to do a writeup of this game for my website? It wouldn't be as long as the report that I put together for PBEM1, I would probably summarize the early game and then have a page or two highlighting the naval combat in the latter stages of the game. These movements were fascinating and deserve a wider audience than forums posts. It also should help continue to build popularity for Civ6 MP activity, which is really catching on now in large part due to the success of these first four PBEM games. Does that sound like an issue to any of the players?

Well, it was a lot of work but I'm finally finished. The report for the PBEM4 game is complete and posted to my website. My original intention was to have four parts, but as typical for me, it ended up running to six parts instead because the game was too awesome to cut short. I tried my best to pull pictures and reporting from everyone involved in the game to get everyone's point of view. Since some players posted more than others (especially oledavy), there's more content from those who left me with more materials to work with. If anyone involved with the game feels that I left something out, let me know and I'll be happy to add more of your thoughts.

Thanks for a great game - enjoy! smile

Excellent report, Sulla! Very enjoyable (and painful at times) to read through the turns of that PBEM again.

At one point, you were mentioning the difference of SoD versus 1upt. As I have not played MPs for Civ3/4 at all, would you see 1upt on par with SoD?
To me, Civ6 is perfect for MP games as 1upt requires one to really think about strategy and unit placements etc. City defense can be surprisingly satisfying. Even though Civ 6 has such poor MP support, it is a far superior experience compared to SP games where 1upt, districts as well as overflow mechanics just magnify the AI incompetence.

Awesome. Just getting started reading it, but I've noticed that the summary of naval units near the top is missing the Missile Cruiser (irrelevant) and the U-boot.

It's missing a lot of naval units - I only included the ones relevant for this game.
