On pauses:

As an impartial observer, I would say everyone should put their password in the first post of their thread no matter what (no one has ever used that to cheat here, and if they did it's obvious and we'll reload. And then either:

1) explicitly state in their first post they don't mind a global lurker coming in and making basic common sense moves, if they are still left to play with under an hour to go

OR

2) if you don't want to do the above, but occasionally need a lurker to cover, post here ahead of time and give specific instructions in your thread. If you forget tough noogies, you lose your moves this turn.

I would advise against pauses if at all possible this early on, the game needs to keep moving. And this can all be revisited later when player count thins and empire size balloons

Turn timer is set to 100 hours for the first turn, already revised down to 22 hours for the next turn.  That should approximate a 24 hour real life period.  If any adjustments are needed please post here.  Don't forget to check your game settings, make sure you have the right civ, leader, techs, etc. on the first turn as well.  Have fun everyone!

We're off to a great start so far. I ended up rebooting the server to try clearing up the connection problem and (so far) the server isn't accessible again. I'll notify Caledorn as either the remote access software didn't restart, the server didn't restart (after closing the remote access software), or something else went wrong. We're probably looking at a start tomorrow at this point.

The game is up again. I've logged in to test the connection, logged out, and it seemed to go OK. Then the pitboss instance crashed for some reason (not sure why). I reloaded it, tested logging in again, logged out successfully and it didn't crash that time. It seems stable now so let's start logging in and playing the first turn. Let me know if there are any problems.

The one thing I know is incorrect now is that the first turn timer is set to only 24 hours, so after you play your turn please PAUSE THE GAME so that we can avoid a reload on the first turn. I want to make sure everyone has time to be aware the game is live and that we're playing now. After an approximately four month setup window for this game it wouldn't be unexpected for someone to be not watching this thread super closely and to completely miss that we've started for a few days. Again, if anything is wrong please post here to let us know and thanks for your patience.

Thanks Xenu, I logged in just fine.

One note for newbies - make sure you quit the game using the Exit to Main Menu option instead of just closing Civ. Otherwise bad things can happen.

You pause/unpause with the pause button on your keyboard. I'm not sure where yours is located. Either way I was already in the game and paused it when I left.
