RBP3 - [SPOILERS] - Team DIM (Mehmed of HRE)

Email from England:

Quote:France now has 2 fewer workers than they used to. One of these workers has been deleted, I'll decide next turn whether to delete the other or not. SS attached; the chariot next to Orleans took worker #2. If they attack out, then their spear will be out of position for defending Orleans. However, I didn't see a reason to risk them stealing back a worker. Orleans has 5 hammers into a build (guess I didn't need to delete the worker: They'd leave Orleans open, since there's no way they have 2 more workers about to finish chops. If they want to trade a chariot and a recaptured worker for leaving Orleans empty, they're welcome to it). No barracks (as expected).

The worker stolen 1W of Orleans I can understand: They might not have known that we put our chariots 1E of ex-Lyons. But the other worker...the chariot that destroyed Lyons could've done it, so there's no excuse for that one happening.

Orleans has 1 spear. It is unpromoted, and has 10% fortification. Because of the actions taken this turn in stealing those workers, only 4 chariots can hit Paris T78. France did NOT upgrade anything in the IT or any of that: they are at 51k power. Last turn, they were 52 - 2k from Krill. They added 1k in the IT from a pop growth (Paris to size 6).

Also, Mukha has now asked us and Babylon to move our units in a threatening position around Rome's borders. I'd love to, but we moved the warrior away when it was clear Portugal wasn't going to attack Sandograd on T72 as previously stated, and our chariot was never moved there because Rome was getting Spears.

Things are definitely getting exciting. I am looking forward to France's downfall. It's a shame we can't do anythign to help out against Rome but at this point there is not anything we can do really. We can just let them know, no dice for now.

It's Easter weekend and my brother is in town and my wife's college friend is also here so it's going to be a pretty busy weekend for me. I'll try to stay in touch but if there's an emergency just send an email!

If the aim is to grow in 2t, working the cottage might be slightly more effcient (long term) than the basic forrest (since the 1h will be neglectible once you work the copper)

I know, but I was looking for a way to work the gold tile for a turn, and still finish the Horse Archer on T77.
T76, Midas is working the Copper Mine and the Cottage, and the HA is at 14/50. Together with the chop it the city will finish the HA without overflow.

Does that make sense?

I have to say that I didn't realise that you indeed need that badly this hammer for your fine tuning MM smile.

T77 update:

Ottomans finished Hanging Gardens, as expected. They are now in the lead and I think they're one the favourites to win this game.

Here's a tactical update:

Lots of barbs as you can see.

The westernmost barb will be taken out by the chariot we just got gifted by the Ottomans. The northern barb will be taken out by our chariot at DIM.
The eastern barb is actually the most annoying. Another barb warrior in our territory has just suicided against a Combat 2 Carthage warrior in a forest.
If I didn't need to move a worker on the forest with a white "X" so it can be chopped, then I'd just move our warrior into the forest.
I've had to move Pestilence, our third Horse Archer, into position to attack it, meaning it won't get to the French Theatre by T84 at the earliest.
You can see our other Horse Archers in the SE corner of the screenshot.
The blue X is the tile Brute, our second roving warrior, will be moving to in two turns.

Originally we had planned to found Marble city (the "green" dot) as next city, because we were afraid an Ottoman city to the site's NW would claim the wet Wheat tile with its third ring. If we'd want to, we could found it on T86-87, and this includes building a small stretch of road to speed up the settler's movement.
But it would be vulnerable, and we wouldn't be able to get it up and running fast enough to compensate for the big hit we'd take in upkeep costs. I'd like to start researching CoL next turn to coincide with the silver coming online at DIM, and I expect overal costs to increase by at least 6 gold if we do found the Marble site.
Therefore, I think it would be better to claim the northern site first (the "black" dot).
The two worker currently mining the silver move to the forest tile NW of DIM and start chopping (2). Chop is due T81, with the settler to finish T82. Both workers then move to the blue X (3) and start chopping it, finishing the chop as soon as Black dot is founded, and completing a Monument right away. They will then move south and finish a cottage (4). Together with the commerce from a trade route with an English city, it will contribute 5 beakers immediately after finishing the cottage. The Workers then move to the forests leading to our Marble site, and will start roading towards it (5 and 6).
1) Mine finished T78
2) chop finished T81
3) chop finished T84
4) cottage finished T86
5) road finished T88
6) road finished T90 - then start chopping
The worker we're using to chop the other forest near DIM (1), will move to the forest next to the Iron and start roading two more tiles towards the Marble site (2 and 3)
1) chop finished T81
2) road finished T85
3) road finished T87

Singa will finish another settler on T90, and using the interDIM roadway, will found Marble city on T92. I plan on using the free Confu missionary on Marble site to increase culture production (I think CoL/Confu will land around the same time)

Military update:

France has moved a spear outside of Paris and left a damaged spear inside the city. Krill's War Chariot had about 40% odds in defeating the spear, and he did! Paris has been burned to the ground.

That leaves France with Orleans, a city on a hill with a spear inside and a spear 2 SE, and Rheims, a new city to Paris' east which is probably still defended by a warrior. There has been discussion between Krill, Cyneheard and myself as to what would be the best next move, and we've decided that if Orleans only has 1 spear inside by T80, the 2 HRE Horse Archers would try and take out the city, supported by a couple of English chariots. If Orleans has a warrior as well inside, then there is next to no chance to defeat Orleans with fast movers, and we'll have to wait till axemen and catapults reach the front.

I will be declaring war on France next turn, and moving the HA E of Orleans' gold tile.

In other new, besides building the Hanging Gardens, Ottomans have also expanded to 6 cities, against our 3. All very depressing...

The barb units inside our borders have all been taken care off, except for the barb warrior to DIM's east, which will be taken our by our Ottoman chariot next turn.

Research has started on CoL, with current ETA 12 turns, but I'm pretty sure we can shave off another turn or two, as cottages grow and (hopefully) Currency comes online.

I really want to found a new city soon.

Guys, after Northern and Marble city, have you had thoughts on where to found next?
The best close city site is to DIM's north east, but that is in Rome's direction unfortunately, and there is no way to found a city on a hill as Northern city. The second best close site is a city to DIM's west, off the river, which can claims SM's Sheep and will be able to work the Iron Mine. I'll try and make a dotmap once our eastern lands are unfogged.

So I sent a formal declaration of war to France, and then I pulled a Whosit, and moved the HA's into French borders, BEFORE declaring war ingame...

I remember telling myself, when accepting Open Borders with France: "I better think twice before moving combat units and not forget to declare war..."

It's not a game changer, as we were still not sure we'd attack Orleans, as there was a 20% chance our HA didn't even damage the Spear inside the city.
But I still can't believe I did that. The HA's are now just outside of Orleans, and will be in position to pillage the city's Sheep next turn, as per our choke plan.

Here's the declaration of War:

Quote:To the leaders of France,

This is a formal notification of the HRE's declaration of war against your nation.

If you're wondering how you ended up in this situation, I invite you to look back at the time our nations met for the first time.

I believe it was one of you who told us: "A stitch in time saves nine"

So true...

Regards,

Ilios - DIM
