I don't know what has happened to Kramnik, but he and Caruana produced another exciting game in the next round:

This is typical Kramnik these days TBH. He's reinvented his style multiple times and in recent years he's played a lot more speculative/suspect positions than say, 5-10 years ago. He doesn't go for safe (but small) advantages so much anymore. He's very entertaining. Part of why this candidates is so great -- several exciting players. The only ones I don't care for are So and Karjakin. There's bound to be at least 1 exciting game every round.

I feel Kramnik has gone a bit bonkers and turned into the anti-Carlsen: He keeps playing equal and sometimes clearly drawn positions for 6+hours, but instead of grinding out a win, he overpresses and ends up with worse/losing postitions.
Then he goes to the press conferences and claims that he was almost winning - even the moderators have started to make fun of him... ![]() (March 19th, 2018, 11:10)darrelljs Wrote:(March 9th, 2018, 15:59)Rusten Wrote: If anybody wants to play a game or two on there my account is: https://lichess.org/@/Ryune I don't play many classical tournaments OTB, I only show up for the blitz events, so I don't have an accurate up to date rating. But yes, something like that. I know how to move the pieces but there are many people better than me.
Yeah...but I'm probably <1600 and not one of them

Big games in the Candidates today. Mamedyarov (#2) with white against Caruana (#1). Huge game for the tournament standings as the tournament is coming to a close.
Also, Grischuk (the main chaser at #3) has white against Karjakin and is likely to push hard for a win. Starts 2h 25m from this post. |
