Anyone interested in a BTS succession game?
RFS-81 just learned CIV here: http://www.realmsbeyond.net/forums/showt...p?tid=9247 and we've talked him into a succession game to explore the military side of the game.
haphazard1 expressed interest.
So we've got:
Zalson
RFS-81
haphazard1
Anyone else want to join?
I figure we can do something like
Prince/Monarch
Raging Barbs
Highlands Map Script?
Maybe someone like Toku? Any other thoughts?

Maybe someone like Toku? Any other thoughts? Prince with a weak leader and a focus on war could be interesting (Churchill is another option that springs to mind). An alternative to raging barbs is to hand-pick the opposition: Monty, Shaka, Izzy, Boudicca, Genghis...

OR BOTH!
You in shallow_thought?
Alternatively, we could do a 4-player small PBEM?

We could have a whole slate of warmonger AIs, if we wanted. Monty, Shaka, and the Khan are obvious for their pure crazed military focus. Isabella always stirs up religious warfare. Boudicca is a good option and quite aggressive. Napoleon tends to build a big army and go after people. Maybe toss in one of the Caesars?
Where do we want to set the difficulty level? RFS-81 is still learning the military aspects of the game, so maybe not go too high? Although the SG format tends to help since the whole team provides input, so we do not want to be too easy.

Highland map + raging barbs tends to really hurt the AI in my experience, especially on something like prince, and quadruply so if you're going to possibly get the Great Wall. I wouldn't be surprised if you outright lost an opposing civ or two to them. I don't think I'd drop the difficulty below Monarch depending on the map size.

I wouldn't have too many warmongers on the slate. It'll likely end two ways, early dogpile followed by death or outtech the AIs and easy industrial win.
I'm in if you want me.

Seems like lots of interest in this SG, so lets start with that. I'm in.

Okay, we have a roster:
Zalson
RFS-81 (if he wants it)
haphazard1
Brian Shanahan

Fluffball, did you want in? A six-person SG is a pretty big roster; we may want to split into 2 groups of 3 if that's the case.
Now to settings:
I think we're a go for:
- Raging Barbs
- Highlands Map Script
- Diplo Victory off, all other settings enabled except must win by ... conquest or domination?
Settings we still want to think about:
Difficulty: Prince or Monarch?
Leader: Churchill, Toku
Other Settings: Always War? Tech Trading? Select other civs?
It's an SG so I think we can probably go Monarch without too many problems. Always War Monarch, though, is very difficult. Raging barbs and highlands might make it simpler -- or it might make it more difficult.
Leader: I really like the idea of taking a pathetic Tokugawa to victory. Drafted rifles FTW! Alternatively, Churchill.
If we're going to leave tech trading on, I think we stack the deck for the AIs: give 'em Mansa, Huyana, Willem, Julius Caesar, Shaka? Monty and Genghis are too war happy, I think. Plus Shaka'd be a very difficult opponent...
Maybe tech trading allowed, always war, on prince, with those leaders?
Any thoughts?

I don't have time to join in, just commenting on the raging barbs + HLs as that is one of my favorite combos. I'll be reading along though.
