That's right, folks, we are now able to offer you a little bit of webspace to host your files! We can host gif, jpeg, jpg, png, and zip files for you, for use by the RB Community.
Guidelines for Use
The primary purpose of this is to host screenshots, personal pictures, and game saves (zipped) that you want to share with other RB members. We ask that you don't upload files to be used on other sites- we don't have the bandwidth to support that!
For example, say you upload "awesomeGWscreenshot1" to our server. You could then go to our Guild Wars forum and create a post that has your screenshot in it (for how to do this, see below). You could not then go to GWOnline, write a post there, and put the screenshot you're hosting at RB into your post there. If you really want people on another site to see your screenshot, feel free to link to your post here that contains the shot (if you're at a site that permits linking to other sites, of course). That way, interested users can follow the link if they want to, and see the post in its original context, but we're not using bandwidth to share your pictures with others who may or may not even want to see it.
If you're somebody with a lot of files that you want to upload, you will probably be better off with your own webspace. Our webspace is intended to allow people to post a few things related to the forum, but won't be enough for heavy users.
Instructions for Use
You can find our upload server at http://www.realmsbeyond.net/userfiles/index.php. Unfortunately, our upload script will not recognize your forum password- you will need to create a separate account. When you register, make sure that you use a valid email address, and that your email account can receive auto-generated mail from realmsbeyond.net.
The upload script, unlike our forum software, is freeware. I'm really happy with it, and it comes with great support, but it does not do all of the things that $100 upload programs do. So, while I can jury-rig it and create accounts manually from time to time, there's no easy way for me to do this. I also will not be able to easily delete or modify the accounts you create (I can monitor the files you upload, though, so don't get any ideas
). So, I ask that you take care and proofread the information you input, so that there are no mistakes or typos.
You will need to create a username and password, and validate your account with a working email address. Once you've done this, you will able to log in to your file manager. This page will allow you to easily see how much space you've used, what you have available, and it has a really easy file upload interface.
The important thing to remember here is that there's no way to change the file's name once you've uploaded (once again, free software, we're not complaining!). The good news is, it won't let you accidentally overwrite your files, or anybody else's files. But, if you upload something and change the file name, you'll have to change the name on your home computer, and then re-upload it with the correct name.
A little further down on the file manager page is a list of the files you've uploaded. From here, you can do a few useful things. You can click on the file's name to take a look at it. You can delete any files that you no longer want. It will also show you the URL of the file so that you can link to it easily. Click the "code" button next to your file, and the complete URL will appear above. Here's a screenshot of how to do that:

OK, now that you have the URL of your screenshot, how do you get it onto the forum? Well, luckily I was taking pictures as I added the last picture. Your first step is to click on the little "postcard" button above the box where you can write your text. Please note that this button is not available on the "quick reply" screen. You will have to create your own thread or use the "go advanced" button to get to the image interface. Here's the image button:

Click on it, and you'll be asked to put the URL into the box. For some reason, I haven't had any success cutting and pasting directly from the URL on the upload page (edit- this should now be working fine). Hopefully you will have better luck. You can type the URL in directly, or click on the image and copy the URL from the address bar. Enter the URL into the box that comes up, and hit OK, and your image should appear in the post window.
But what if you want to put a link to the file, and not have the file itself appear? For example, you might want to upload a zipped game file, and then link to it. Unlike some other forums, you'll have to type the text that you want to link first, then add the hyperlink afterwards. For example, say I could type "Cool link here". Then I would need to highlight the "cool link here text, and click the link button, then enter the URL of the link in the box.
