Are you 100% sure the damage isn't from an irrecoverable source? (In my case it was from Psionic Blast)
Are you 100% sure you are running the correct copy of the game? (assuming you have multiple folders that have different versions?)
Are you 100% sure overwriting the file was successful? (compare the dates, maybe something prevented deleting the old file)

OK your ideas guided me. Fun fact: till today, COM always ran from
\Users\...\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\GOG.com\Caster Of Magic

Today it runs from
"C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG.com\Caster Of Magic\"

I haven't changed anything that might affect that though.

Eh eh, immediate report: I've managed to heal with heroic heart a hero that I'd just dead-raised. I believe that's not meant to be possible. From not being able to use HH to using it too much ?

Typo in the in-game description for the Alchemist retort: "loosing" should be "losing"

Also, is it required to overwrite the MAGIC.SET file for every version upgrade? It looks like the win history is kept in that file, and I'd hate to lose that every time I update.

No, it's not required unless someone is updating from a version prior to where we added storing the realms in the high score list.

I always thought that's just some weird part of the English language like how you can spell color as colour too. It's how it was in the original game, guess I might as well fix it if it isn't correct.

A peaceful expansionist has 'dark rituals' in a 1-population town with just smithy in it. For some reason I can't get screenshots to work today.
