( SPOILERS ) A Minnow Among Sharks- Superdeath takes another swing at it

banghead

That was one of the worst neighbors to have, especially so close. What awful luck. I hope we can avoid being boxed in. Try to avoid making contact as long as possible.

Idea 1: What I would do.
Idea 2: TGLH. I do not think we can defend it unless we get a decent production base on the continent. I do not think we can a
Idea 3: We can only do it if we somehow surprise them. 1 skirmisher or axe stops it.

We should be extremely wary of a skirmisher rush/choke as we are so close. If they see our position, they will know that we have to fight them soon and try to take us out early. They might decide to tech archery and be in our borders in 10-15 turns as archery is cheap now. If they camp our bronze tile with skirmishers and it is hill or forest we can not counter that until numids. Then we are screwed basically.

The problem with Idea 1 is that we will probably not be able to conquer cities with Numids against skirmishers unless they make big mistakes. We need catapults for that. What Numids do give us defense against attacks and chokes.

Idea 3 is the only way I see of us gaining an advantage on the field. However we seem to be 13 tiles away from them. We could maybe have surprised them if we started warrior first. As it is now we will reach them about turn 30. They surely have a warrior up by then. If we somehow remain undiscovered we could prioritize building 2 warriors after worker nr 1. They could win against 1 warrior in a city. They will have city 2 up by then though. We probably wont be able to rush them but a few warriors would useful anyway.

A warrior to camp on the bronze would be nice.

Well,  we found each other a couple turns ago. So being sneaky is a no-go. He is Creative so trying to bully him with cities is a no go.. he has PRO Skirms.. so if he wants to he can plant wherever he wants, or even choke us. Im honestly seeing the only way out of this, is to go Bronze-Sailing and hit the islands for some land and maybe turn into korea from the PB2. TGLH will be built ASAP, but im really hoping he doesnt do anything to us before then. He must know that him having creative borders+ pro skirms he can do whatever he wants on our little(?) chunk of land and we cannot do much about it. Thats without making life miserable for us. Might keep a scout outside of his borders to see if he expands towards us ect.

Migrating might save us but we should build the wonders on the islands in that case where we can defend with navy.

True. Im trying to workout if its better to go BW-Archery and turtle up first, or go straight bw-sailing and get to that gold asap. If the island has any kind of production i wouldnt mind going bw-sailing-masonry and build us a big lighthouse. I really hope we dont have to go down any of these paths. Really wanted to try out expansive and spiritual.. Damned cramped land. Maybe he has another neighbor on his otherside?

Turn 9-10

planning to scout out to the coast and then keep watch on where he plants.

Also, naming theme is Robin Williams movies. Capitol is Morning Vietnam ( damn character limit )

I see it like this:

We do not know all the facts. We may yet get lucky with a helpful neighbor in their back. Something else might happen.

The best course of action is to compete for the mainland as much as we can. Remember that they do not have any advantage in taking our cities after we get axes up. Any mainland territory we can claim is very important. The bigger our share of the mainland is the better we can hold out in a defensive scenario where it is the grind of catapults that decide.

Tech choice depend on the bronze position. Hooking it is all that matters. We might need the wheel for that. I would also like to know where horse are early as Numids are our best counter to an invasion.

Shit, i forgot all about the wheel. Yeah. Early bronze access is going to be big. Im going to be kinda scared to plant anywhere without archers because warriors in a city even on a hill defend like shit aganist pro-skirms. God, this is bringing back gamespy memories.

Has there ever been an advanced start pitboss? Or is that a really buggy/bad mechanic.

There have been late era pitbosses, the kind where you start with tech and extra workers/settlers. I don't think we've had the kind where you buy cities.

I'm not really sure why they didn't catch on. Those who played seemed to enjoy it...and then the next game was Ancient era anyway.

Yeah, we need archers or axes in flatland cities.
