[SPOILERS] JR4 and RefSteel have a plan

TURN 53 and 54

No new barbs turned up near our wounded Warrior so we have a more than decent chance of building our fourth city on t56. Our first metal unit (a Spear) will finish end of t54 and we could use some more boots on the ground. We really don`t want a barb Archer or Axe ruining the micro plan. But getting our city built will give us more vision in the area SE of Gower (and more so once our city pops borders).

I just can`t help it - I`m so curious to find out where everyone is situated so our Scout went on NW. We might be forced to turn N instead if Cornflakes` city expands borders in the next couple of turns.

Wetbandit has met.. exactly zero of the other players we have made contact with. What is going on here? Surely, he`s not isolated somewhere to our NE. Fwiw everyone else have made contact (we don`t have intelligence on BGN).

For those who don`t follow PBSPY as closely as I do - Cornflakes have now (well, most likely) captured the city between us and kept it. That`s bold but 100 % the right choice for him. At least it`s not on a hill and that very city will be a front city for a long time to come.

BGN and Cornflakes are the only ones on 4 cities. I think that Elkad only has 2 and the rest is on 3. We`ll get another city in a couple of turns.

I fixed an extremely minor transcription error in the microplan above for T57. Other than that, any further planning is waiting on AH => Horses and/or different strategic directives. I will note that we'll need an MP unit at Gower eventually (since we currently have none!) but unless a barb tries to mess with the city (which actually is really unlikely if I understand their pathing algorithms correctly) or another player does (which I certainly hope is unlikely! - and neither one could be done there without significant early warning due to 3rd-ring borders + terrain) there's no particuar urgency.

All true. Also, that's a really good city.

Oh - and I never got around to replying to this, so:

All true, none of it will prevent you brutally murdering him this game, right?

Haha nope, not at all, as JR4 said! What very well may prevent it will be Cornflakes living up to this pat of my analysis:

...which might make his Incans too strong to eat. We'll see how that plays out though. We're hopefully a long way from the point where civs start murdering each other anyway! (Wellllll ... except maybe if we manage a real military and find that ex-barb city still has a really inadequate defense....)

Much appreciated, too! Not for nothing did my Holy Spirits of the Eternal Khatun story in PB37 call you "the spirit of Keeping Us Sane!"

TURN 55

Cornflakes` Copper city expanded borders this turn, thus effectively locking us out of the area west of Antiochus. Why didn`t I listen to RefSteel a couple of turns ago and move that Scout back in time? Declaring war on the top power is not a particularly good idea (I`m almost certain Cornflakes has the most soldiers). Anyway, too late for that. We`re going north instead. It`s gonna be a slow and dangerous journey. Cornflakes did capture the barb city between us.

Still no new barbs in sight and our Warrior is at 1.7 health so we look set to found Hespirides next turn. That will add a very nice chunk of beakers to our total science output (and to our expenses of course).

As we built a Spear this turn we... somewhat closed the gap to the 6th placed power. Hmm, as long as we have safety hammers invested into units we should be safe. We`re doing well in basically every other way in the demos, crop yield in particular.

Not a big deal, of course. Realizing the borders would pop as soon as they did might have saved us a couple turns of scouting, but that shouldn't make too much difference either. Anyway, I should have explained my reasoning better for expecting a border pop this soon. Of course we saw a Terrace in the city, but that produces only 1 culture per turn, and how long ago was it built? The Worker roading the gold hill in neutral territory was the tip-off. It just seemed very likely that Cornflakes was expecting the border pop soon enough to start the mine right after (or by interrupting) the road.

Great news! Founding the city will indeed add a few extra beakers (and expenses) to our total, especially since it'll be working the cottage we just finished at first, but a big part of the boost that lets us finish AH at the end of next turn comes from Tyre working the gold mine we'll finish T56. Hmmm... and speaking of Tyre...

Where's the spear right now? Is there a plan for how to position it? Given our scarce military resources, it's a good idea to know how we'll dispose of them. (Relatedly: Are we planning to tech Archery right after AH, as in the plan above?)

We know that Cornflakes probably has most of his power tied up in Axemen because that's what he used to capture the barb city. If that's the case I think the spearman should be positioned near superdeath because he would be more likely to have chariots as of right now.

TURN 56

Donovan built his fourth city earlier this turn. We founded Hesperides in place and increased our total city count to four as well. I was a bit worried about random barbs just outside of our city but fortunately there were none in sight. Our sole Spear should act as a zone defender for the time being. It`s been placed between Hesperides and Prince of Tyre and can reinforce either city quickly.

It is kind of tempting to attempt a play for Stonehenge but it will most likely fall before Prince of Tyre can complete it. Not that we`re desperate for more culture but it`s always nice to have a city pushing borders early.

Our demos look just beautiful with Hesperides and the Gold mine adding to our total numbers. If Elkad could play his turn soon we`ll get to know the exact placement of our Horses already today.

I guess it`s time to discuss the tech path as we are about to complete Animal Husbandry and have a gazillion options.

Archery does make sense to me as those Archers are inexpensive defenders and don`t have a clear counter. Archery is a 2 turn tech at max science, making it an affordable and safe choice.

We could try to go for a quick Masonry if we want to compete for the Pyramids. We`ve got Stone the moment Masonry completes and a city with high production (Prince of Tyre) that can stagnate on size 4, working Pig, Gold, Copper and a plains hill mine for a total of 14 production. That`s not bad in the early game and I think that we do have a chance of landing the big prize. Cornflakes would surely be the main competition and if we lose the race we`d get literally a mountain of gold that could fuel our research until Currency. Masonry can be researched in 3 turns.

Going for a religion could perhaps be worth a try? Polytheism and Meditation are both 4 turn techs. The Oracle could be another interesting option.

Writing is a very good tech for us, unlocking Libraries, thus further enhancing our total output of beakers. Did I mention that Pericles would like an early Academy? Writing could be researched in 5 turns.

At some point we should probably send one of our Warriors back to Gower to act as MP. I`d rather have strong units in our front cities and Gower isn`t really in any danger short term.

I thin mids is the best option. If you loose it its not a setback but a gain,if you build it, oh yeah best wonder in game now with MoM nerfed to the ground.
