Krill explained his thinking in his thread. Short answer, it would have taken too many Knights. Also, he considered he'd just be throwing the game to Gav if he did, because he did not have the economy to keep up with Gav.

Ouch, so why was this version with the +1 move circumnav bonus? Much more balanced +1 vision was in earlier RBmods...

Have to give props for OH for exhausting Krill and Gavagai's morale.

I don't blame Gavagai really, I myself made a lot of my decisions in this game under the assumption that Krill was always playing to win and that OH and Krill would act as checks on each other (and Krill on me perhaps, given I neighbored him) and I assume Gav was thinking the same. Instead OH was left to do whatever he wanted against weaker empires as Krill did nothing to threaten him while Gavagai had to deal with a costly conquest against my rifles and Cavs. Yeah he had 3 times my production but rifles and cavs are still rifles and cavs lol

Not to take anything away from OH and Hitru though, they pressed their naval advantage as well as any player could have hoped for given the diplomatic situation.

First, GG to all! It was real pleasure.

Have not yet had time to read through threads, just learned that we hasd officially won.

Will just comment few things from here.

We attacked SD as he had Great Lighthouse, which together with religious wonders and our three shrines had us tech at the same rate with Gav. Religious wonders also let us grow our mfg, so they really saved us, basically had 2 more pop in almost every city (which we badly needed as our crop is still not as good as what Krill has even though we have eaten more than 2 civs worth of land and Krill has settled his backlines... smile ). We considered attacking Cairo, but great lighthouse turned us against SD. Also SD relied hevily on rifles and we had amphi grens. He also had no navy so we could leave our fleet to stare at Krill. Later on we hoped Gav would attack Cairo and we would have had an ally in eventual war against him.

Assomeone said we had just enough units to make sure Krill would have payd too steep cost if he would have pressed the attack.

We were serious about culture, we had 4 cities doing cathedrals etc and the rest of cities build either cultural infra (temples, missionaries), military infra (drydocks), basic infra (granary etc) or units. Most of hammers went to units. Our plan was to burn enough coast from Gav that he can't threaten from sea and have enough units in core to keep Krill away. Could not turn tech of before destroyers though as we are pretty sure Gav would have made there before we had won.

And I think Mack is partly right about dedication, lately we did spend (Me and OH) on average I would say over 3 hours a day in game and chatted about it most of that time. So the turns were definitely demanding to say the least.

These were just quick answers to some things that were asked here. Feel free to ask more.

And I think you played a strong game Gav, it really looked like you would run away at some point. I think we attacked you just in time, and it looked like you did not expect us to hit your eastern coast?

Yeah, you guys getting the 2nd half of the turn really screwed with my head/fun of the game for me. Couldnt do jackdiddly against 5000 ships+ grenadiers. I am rather stunned by the complete dominance you had over me though, makes me look like an even worse player lol. Going to have to get some more naval tactics practice soon..

I think the key reason for your success was speed. As I cannot constantly keep myself highly focused on civ games, I usually try to strategize really far ahead when I have time / am in the mood and then play on auto-pilot, relying on decisions made earlier. This is the only way I am able to play intelligently at all but the obvious downside of this method is that it makes me really rigid: I can fail to react to unexpected changes in a game, especially if they are subtle enough. In this case, eastern coast was for long time labeled in my mind as "completely safe" because I had SD as neighbor there and he was not a threat. You took him out and attacked me before I was able to mentally readjust.
More generally, I started to take you seriously as a competitor only very late in the game. I always thought that Krill, SD and Cairo are gonna split you between themselves and all you can do is delay that moment a bit. And when it became obvious that you are the runner up, I have already stopped taking the game seriously. It means that I never really thought about how the war with you would look like.
