t83 - lots to happen this turn....
Thessalonica: Buddhist Missionary - Worker
Missionary heads West to wait for a ship to take him to the newly-founded city of Angora:
In the far West, my Scout has met Krill's Great Prophet wandering through Darrell's lands. EPs switched across to him immediately, and lets have a look at his diplo screen:
Only 9 cities in the list there, and we're a bit up on tech ... excellent. Have to wait a couple of turns to get his graphs and see the full implications.
And here's Trebizond founded on Red Dot:
10t WB should just about coincide with Missionary arrival and border pop. One Worker will road across the Jungle and start on the Wheat Farm, while the other is staying in place to Farm the current tile and pass irrigation to Nicomedia's Wheat.
With expenses rising from the two new cities, I'll wait an additional turn before starting Paper.
AP due to complete at EOT (with 0h overflow).
Ooooo, now here's an interesting effect; it seems that not all production is tallied at the same time, it's actually performed in city-order. Since the AP finished in the Capital, Thessalonica's Buddhist buildings (both a Temple & Monastery) produced hammers when their production came around. That gave me the 4h extra needed to get out a 1t Worker (with a Sliks tile chopped)!
Oh, and I get a free spread of Christianity for Angora ... might help later I suppose.

Interesting thing about AP and it's always the wrong religion that get the auto-spread.

t84 - watch the AP movie.
Constantinople: AP - Buddhist Monastery
Thessalonica: Worker - Granary
Adrianople: Trireme - Buddhist Temple
Nicaea: Buddhist Missionary - Worker
Antioch: Lighthouse - Settler (for SL)
Vote for myself!
Re-jig the tiles in Constantiople and hire a second Priest - next GP due in 15t. Need a Lighthouse in here soon.
Looks like SL got a GE over the inter-turn.

It's about time I got back to SL, so I thought I'd best start with a quick caht to Darrell:
Quote:me: You're going to need to tell SL about your deal if we want him onboard an anti-Krill alliance
Darrell: which deal?
the machinery/cs deal?
me: the "giving the game to Krill" deal
Darrell: oh
that deal
yeah I can tell him that
me: he suspects you of working closely with Krill
Darrell: well I am to be honest
I mean I've traded techs with him non-stop
me: Yeah, but I think he sees it as a bit more than that
I've traded techs with him quite a bit as well
Darrell: hmm
Okay I will talk to him
me: If you're serious about conspiring against Krill that is
I don't want to put words in your mouth
Darrell: Well, I mean I have to be honest...I am playing all sides right now
me: I haven't hinted anything to SL since we chatted
Darrell: I mean I need to keep as many options available to me as possible
but at some point, I also recognize I have to choose a side
me: Well then
indeed
Darrell: I'll end up choosing the side I think gives me the best chance of a) enjoying the game, and b) winning
and b) influences a) :D
I dont' want to be misleading or anything
me: Well I guarantee that Krill won't let you win by Culture...
Darrell: Yeah somehow I get the same feeling
me: All I can guarantee for myself is that I'd try to stop you.
Darrell: A one sided NAP is just a reciped for death
me: yep
Darrell: I appreciate honesty
me: does he have to give you notice?
Darrell: 13t cooldown
me: ah
Well think about it some more
Darrell: I will
I definitely will
me: I think the desicion has to be made in the near future tbh
Darrell: Agreed 100%
I don't think I will be on teh fence this time next week, or even in less time
me: Saw your Prophet walking by; he installed yet?
Darrell: no, not yet
next turn I reckon
me: (completely changing subject)
Darrell: oh, and congrats on AP
me: ty
t84, since I knew I didn't have to push
Darrell: if you send me 2 missionaries I promise not to gift the cities away to prevent cheese AP vicotry :P
yeah, when t82 passed I figured you didnt hire that engineer
me: no Forge remember
got to keep a couple of Forests though
Darrell: those will help al ot
helath on this map stinks
me: I've got no problems
Darrell: grumble
I sure do
me: Corn, Wheat, all 3 seafood
got anything to trade?
Darrell: with granary and harbor that 10H
lucky duck
me: Darn, Yaz is in the way
Darrell: he's gonna be thre a while I fear
me: I have spare Wheat....
Darrell: walls, units, etc.
me: yeah
Darrell: tenacious little canadian
me: seems in a strong position
(apart from the tech)
o'course Krill can arm him fairly fast if pushed
Darrell: yes
I suspect krill of supplying him info and maybe cash
me: I don't know about that
I actually offered to pay Yaz for OB, but he refused!
Darrell: interesting
very interesting
me: well it's worth it for me
Darrell: yeah
me: beyond meeting Krill, it gets me trade routes past....
Darrell: doesnt hurt him either
me: True
but he doesn't get routes from me
Darrell: right
me: Anyway, I'm strictly neutral in this war
Darrell: its mostly me and ruff
some support from SL and krill on either side
I think
me: Well Krill's certainly reaping the benefits
Darrell: 7 frickin wonders
and im zero hammer whipping units
me: ouch!
He's up to 7?
Darrell: didnt see the pyramids go down?
me: yeah
I thought that made 5
haven't seen him boasting since
Darrell: pyramids, tgl, colossus, the oracle, hindu shrine
hmm
stonehenge
me: um
Darrell: thats 6
me: Ah, GLib
(not GLight)
Darrell: right
me: yeah, so 6
Parthenon'll be next, I'd bet
Darrell: yeah
I dont think he has marble though
me: so?
Darrell: yeah
me: he's still IND isn't he
when're you going to get HG then?
bribed him out of it, I hope
Darrell: well I actually have agreements with everyone
so I plan on waiting for stone and yaz to be dead and all my cities founded
me: Ouch
that's just lazy & abusive
Darrell: yeah it is
but I need it given how much yaz has slowed me down
me: maybe I /should/ kill you ... then I could build it
Darrell: hrm
you could kill me and take it
me: Nah, then I'd have to wait until after you'd killed Yaz and that seems to be taking forever.
Darrell: it sure does
I'd blame ruff but that wouldnt be fair
me: well he has 3(?) cities to your 8(?) ... so you should be doing 3x the work
Darrell: I know
I am doing 3X the work right now, but he's catching up fast
Playing the field indeed!

and the Yaz popped up for a chat:
Quote:yazilliclick: Well you got my vote in the elections :D
me: Heh
thank
yazilliclick: Thanks for the religion :P
me: My first foriegn spread!
yazilliclick: Hopefully the city doesn't disappear shortly
me: under threat?
yazilliclick: Just had first fight with darrell on my land, ugly business.
If he ferries over reinforcements it'll be a real threat.
Took out his GG war elephant though as well as a horse archer. Cost a bunch of axemen though
me: GG WE - ouch!
yazilliclick: yeah, +20str and +25% vs melee upgrades to boot
me: urgh
yazilliclick: But it's dead and I now have Vercingetorix
me: ah, GW paying off already
yazilliclick: yeah, may have just saved me there actually. Let me take out the HA with upgrades
actually now that I think about it's really odd that I did kill the we as I think I should have fought axemen instead. Not sure how that happened.
me: heh
ah well
yazilliclick: yeah, no complaints here :D

So I finally get an e-mail off to SL. Not much to say yet though:
Quote:Hey SL,
Sorry I've taken a while to reply; I wanted to have a chance to chat with Darrell a bit further before getting back to you. I agree that he's playing the field a bit, but I do think we could pursuade him into joining "our side".
He's suggested that I go for Guilds next as well, but I have a few turns left on Paper before I commit to the next tech. I gather you'll have Feudalism available in a turn or two, which I'd be quite happy to pick up.
Cheers,
Dreylin.

t85 - unanimously elected to Popedom.
Not much gong on right now; transporting Worker & Buddhist Missionary West to Angora, same combo wandering SE towards Trebizond. Scout finds the borders of Krill-land, while Galley has headed North to a double-gold island North of Chicago.
I ask Krill for Open Borders ... don't really expect him to agree, but worth a try. Also interesting that I seem to now be able to trade resources with Darrell, so he must have scouted out an alternative route through to me ... not that he has anything interesting to trade.
Whip the Temple into Nicomedia.
Paper due in 4t.

t86 - rolling along.
Constantinople: Buddhist Monastery - Forge (2t), and will follow with a 1t Lighthouse before Paper completes and I can roll on into UoS.
Adrianople: Buddhist Temple - Budd. Monastery
Well, Krill kept borders closed as I expected, so my Scout will lurk on the borders before turning around.
Darrell completed Jewish Shrine, and SL grabbed Sistine. Also a Buddhist spread to Trent Bridge ... wonder if it was spontaneous or SL did it himself...? Sistine is in The Oval, so looks like our culture "fight" will be pretty even.

t87 - concluded last night that SL must have used his GE to grab Sistine Chapel.
Thessalonica: Granary - Lighthouse
Antioch: Settler - Buddhist Temple
Settler marched South and gifted to SL.
Buddhism into Angora, Worker starts Mining the plains forest hill SE of the city.
Looks like Krill(?) picked up a third Prophet on the inter-turn ... he must be getting sick of them by now.

Krill pops up for a quick chat:
Quote:Keith: FYI, I've offered you OB in game: but there is a catch.
If you accept the OB, then I want a world map trade between us when you discover paper. If you don't accept these terms, don't accept the OB.
Also, Machinery research will finish turn 89
me: Hi
OK, I'll hold off on the OB for now then
Keith: ok
I'm sure that I'm not ready to let Krill know exactly where I am in relation to him, nor hand over my entire world map to him. He hasn't done much exploring as far as I can tell, and I'm not about to do all of that for him.
