RB Pitboss #2 [SPOILERS] - Speaker and Sullla

It's nothing too special. Just a warrior on a hill here, an archer there, etc.

I didn't post anything from yesterday's turn because I was pretty bummed about the announcements that Civ5 is going to require Steam accounts and be full of microtransactions/downloadable content for additional revenue streams. Not going to get into that again, but it is very discouraging. Let me post some quick pictures from last turn before moving on to the current one.

We had to put down two temporary workshops here to speed along construction of the Globe Theatre in Chikamauga. Since the Globe is a wonder, it requres double population to whip it to completion, so you can essentially think of each pop point producing 22.5 shields instead of 45 here. Once the city hits size 9, we'll hire an Engineer and get up to 10/15 shields/turn. Shouldn't take too much longer until we can whip the thing, and then start whipping out an endless army of units. Looks like a prime place to get some of those catapults for now, Speaker, until we go into Nationhood civic.

I saw Kathlete's workers building cottages and thought this was weird. The four workers on the eastern tiles are building cottages which can only be worked by Bothawui. That city is size 1, and has zero food bonuses if Hoth takes the wheat tile (which it should be doing to work all those hills). Bothawui won't need those cottages for many many turns yet to come. I'm just sort of curious - wouldn't those workers be more useful somewhere else (?) huh

Nakor is moving yet another settler and worker group on the center island. Thanks to Whosit, he has 6 cities here already, and will have more soon. Looks like Nakor also has some Heroic Epic calibre units, which I guess he got from fighting against barbs (?) Sure looks like Whosit gifted some illegal Praetorians, but whatever, not going to fight that fight.

Nakor's going to have control of the entire center island if we don't do something about it. But what do we do? If we don't go after Kathlete, he'll have control over have the starting Donut once he eliminates slaze. We probably just have to deal with the Ottomans first, and come back here later. Not fun for us though.

In the ongoing Taj race:

Rolan: 498 shields (+132)

Nakor did something unexpected, chopping the forest on his furs tile. You can see the reduced tile output, just 1/1 now. We did not expect him to do that, but it was a clever move. Well played, Nakor. Fortunately it doesn't change the race much at all; Nakor still has to whip his city to beat us to Taj, and we should be able to force a coinflip on the wonder. Depends on whether we'll even be interested in using a Great Engineer on a coinflip, Speaker and I will discuss and figure it out.

No techs discovered anywhere in the world, no diplomatic messages received! So on to another turn, where I'll look at some of the issues Speaker just raised.

Well then it's a good thing I'm not planning on buying any extremely new games right now. My younger brother wants Mario Galaxy 2, but that'll be it as far as super-new stuff is concerned for me.

Goodbye, I'm off to start my 2nd playthrough of Zelda: Twilight Princess

*yeah I understand this post is a bit off topic*
Civilization IV sure runs like a dream on my new computer.

In which case, why post it?

I was just saying my reaction. I do have a Steam Account because I own Portal, but that's really it.

BTW Sulla do you own any Valve games?

Are you entirely sure you are posting in the right thread?
Aren't your recent posts better placed in the Civ 5 Announcement thread?

Indeed, let's try to stay on topic here. Everything doesn't have to be 100% focused on Civilization, but this thread (and forum) have nothing to do with Twilight Princess or Mario Galaxy.

We completed work on Notre Dame in Chancellorsville:

There it is, standing tall and proud in the city center. Can you spot the barracks, the library, the market and the grocer? Just don't mind those cows in the background that are roughly the same size as the cathedral itself! lol

Notre Dame is a pretty big deal, granting +2 happiness for all time in all of our mainland cities. (Needless to say, we're expecting to face some major whip/draft unhappiness in the future, to say nothing of war weariness!) We've also connected dyes and incense from our offshore cities, which means that we have every happiness resource on this map other than whales. (We have them too, just not connected.) There doesn't appear to be any ivory or gems on this map, aside from the gems that Nakor popped out of a mine.

As Speaker posted, we whipped two universities to completion (Antietam and Fort Henry) and will finish another one in Fredericksburg, to get us up to 6 total. That means we'll start Oxford next turn in the capital, whipping a pop point to get huge overflow into the national wonder. I wasn't sure of this, but Speaker loves that whip, and he can be very convincing. whip

With the overflow and a forest chop we've saved for this purpose, it should only take 3 turns to complete Oxford, Turn 191. Now we discovered Education on T182, so that's a total of nine turns to finish six universities and Oxford. Nakor discovered Education on T171, and he has two universities completed in the past sixteen turns, to say nothing of then having to build Oxford itself. Now yes, we are of course Philosophical, but it's doing that kind of empire-wide management that makes such a big difference. Oxford alone is worth almost 100 beakers/turn for our civ! nod

We are waiting at the moment because the game is down, but it's going to get real interesting when the thing goes back up. Nakor's really close to finishing Taj:

Rolan: 612 shields (+114)

He got another forest chop, although I honestly don't see from where. Perhaps our maps are simply out of date (?) Anyway, we'll discover Nationalism tech this upcoming turn and wait to see what Nakor does. He still needs to whip Taj in order to beat us, so nothing has really changed there. It would be absolutely hilarious if Nakor didn't whip Taj, because he's getting 14 base / 42 shields per turn right now. Two more turns of that would leave him at 696 out of 700 shields on Taj. crazyeye

If it's any kind of coinflip, we'll probably just save our Great Engineer for rushing a different wonder, most likely the Apostolic Palace. No need to waste such an important unit to a dice roll.
