Yeah that video is hilarious.
What's quite sad on the other hand is that Stromae had a burn-out a few years ago due to his sudden success, and has (let's hope temporarily) stopped working on his music.
"What rabiit hole are you dragging us down now?" says my wife.
But she is the one who actually dig out - the original song - that Stromae is (apparently) Belgian - that the song is ten years old and thus (presumably) not cool. I wouldn't know. I'd never heard of it, but now kind of like it.
It may have looked easy, but that is because it was done correctly - Brian Moore
I know the thread has been going for more than a year, but here are still some suggestions from Quebecer artists:
Diane Dufresne - J'ai douze ans https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R2CkNXnJs3c Daniel Bélanger - Fou n'importe où https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4IHnFvyr0P4 Mes Aïeux - Notre-Dame-du-Bon-Conseil https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kuvzwZOleAM Beau Dommage - Le Picbois https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a0tgrlcgINw Jean Leloup - Paradis City https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yy6AG-Vu094 Claude Dubois - Si Dieu Existe https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j9zAj6j2P7M Gerry Boulet - Un Beau Grand Bateau https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zVp7h-abYbo Harmonium - Un musicien parmi tant d'autres https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MiIVmWJ05kk Kain - Embarque ma belle https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OPLVibhTVjs La Chicane - Juste pour voir le monde https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I8oJ9Qo_sjU Vincent Vallières - On va s'aimer encore https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EAjl5AoZfzg Les Cowboys Fringants - L'Amérique pleure https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sYRp8oP0yiw
I didn't want to necro the thread for a random suggestion, but now that it's necro'ed I'll add that the band Bon Entendeur has some really nice songs (they take an old song and make it electro swing while leaving the singer's voice and some of the original instruments). L'amour (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W-8jADLcOuU), Le Temps Est Bon (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RMWBriHwVrI) and La Rue Madureira (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aZtFi_A3M5A) are particularly good.
Edit : Oh and about the last exchange in the thread, Stromae got over his burnout and is apparently preparing an album.
I'm not French, but I majored in French and dove into French music as a way to help myself learn. Loving a lot of these suggestions - I have more to look into! Stromae has already been mentioned, but here are a few of my favorite artists and some of their songs. Hope you enjoy!
Elodie Frégé - La Fille De L'Après Midi (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uyicdku-FJk) Oldelaf et Monsieur D - Le Café (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Y7ZZsOS4O4) - Odelaf has many more great songs but this one is hilarious Françoise Hardy - Mon amie la rose (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ICFtXx546A) Yelle - Ici & Maintenant (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DMeyvg1M52k) Carla Bruni - Quelqu'un m'a dit (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EelX_LwPHbA) Les Trois Accords - Les amoureux qui s'aiment (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mnvI3JnCoC8) - Canadian French Coeur de Pirate - Danse et danse (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BdDYWGyuA7s) - Canadian French (December 31st, 2019, 10:59)Gustaran Wrote: I'm sorry, but that is incorrect.
