The more I think about it, my preference would be to use the mod from PB46 that is known stable, and minimize any changes so we can get started quicker. PB48 appears to have PBSpy issues.
pb49?

Naval. Do we screw around with it? Or leave it the same as pb46. if 3-move galleys are the problem - make them 0 movement, start with nav 1+2. else leave it the same
Nerf any civs? If so, which ones. leave it the same Any units ( privateers/caravels? ) need moved in the tech tree? privateer additional requirement banking, else leave the same Crossbows, do we make them easier to build? leave it the same Snake pick? Random? SNAKE PICK Pangaea? BnS? BnS Map size, smaller than pb46, but how big? How many comfortable cities per player? I support Cornflakes' suggestion of 6-8 cities, err on the smaller side. only feel rather strongly about snake pick, don't care too much about the others
Naval. Do we screw around with it? Or leave it the same as pb46. Mostly fine.
Nerf any civs? If so, which ones. It's fine. Any units ( privateers/caravels? ) need moved in the tech tree? Privateers should take Astro and Paper at a minimum Astro and Engineering would be better. Rasts idea to do Astro and Guilds is exactly what I DON'T want. Piling more things on the bottom of the tree is a terrible idea. I'd also like trebs put back at Engineering. Rushing knights is fine, but you shouldn't get a free collateral unit tech on the way. Crossbows, do we make them easier to build? Put them back to default techs. Ditch the collateral. You get collateral in the top of the tree. Snake pick? Random? Honestly don't care. Pangaea? BnS? Pangea? A collection of "small"s? Just not that snaky crap that 46 got with no inland city spots, or grass, or rivers, or freshwater you could connect to your food. Map size, smaller than pb46, but how big? How many comfortable cities per player? Whatever, but I always lean towards bigger maps. And then the wishlist, of which I'll probably be the only vote. Turn spies back on. Disable civic/religion changes for being broken. Sabotage Improvement has issues with simultaneous turns, so it should go. (It's fine in sequential turns, like PBEM) But stealing techs, culture spread, and the other missions are fun.
^^ Actually I agree about privateers. I just wanted to put something on top of astro (optic/paper is sick)... engineering makes sense. And yes to remove collateral damages to xbows.
Naval. Do we screw around with it? Or leave it the same as pb46. Leave the same (I would argue for decreasing privateers 1 point of strength to 5)
Nerf any civs? If so, which ones. Keep all as is. Maybe buff China, given the crossbow buff. Pavillion is a shit UB. Any units ( privateers/caravels? ) need moved in the tech tree? NO Crossbows, do we make them easier to build? NO Snake pick? Random? Random - Haven't tried yet Pangaea? BnS? As long as it isn't tilted axis. Map size, smaller than pb46, but how big? How many comfortable cities per player? 8-10 cities per player, including islands.

I would much prefer snake pick over any other settings (just played a semi-random and would like to control my destiny). Any other settings I'm flexible on.
To my understanding, the idea behind moving privateers to paper was that you should be able to defend against an astro beeline without beelining astro yourself. While paper seems too easy, putting them on astro defeats the whole purpose. Hence my suggestion of am additional prereq. I agree that it would be preferable to take one from the top of the tree, I just don't see which one. I'll try to compile some suggestions:
1 leave as it is 2 astro/guilds (Ras's) 3 astro/engineering (Elkad's) 4 optics/paper/ one of {guilds, banking, engineering, Nationalism,Divine Right} 5 optics/Military tradition? Personally I like 5,but I'm not sure if it would work practically,so conservatively I'd support 4 with Nat or Eng From Elkad's post, I support moving trebs back to engineering and revert crossbows to original. Don't really see where the problem was that was solved by giving them collateral. Any opinion on Galley 0move, starts with nav1+2? Finally I'd really prefer to play a combo that I picked myself. If we do make a change then maybe just push Privateer back one column to Printing Press (or Optics + Printing Press)? PB48 appears to have PBSpy issues. Yes, PB48 has issues with PBSpy, but we are in the process of solving those right now. Of course you are free to play with RtR 4.1.1.6 (PB46's version). I will ask Ramk if it's any problem starting a new game with that mod version.

Privateers. Astro is optional. I could live with Optics and anything on the top of the tree. Engineering, Nationalism, MilTrad. Paper is too accessible (and cheap, and easy to bulb) for someone running the bottom of the tree.
Str 4 Caravels fight Str4 galleons at parity (and a hammer advantage), so you can reasonably defend against astro without privateers. The guy who gets up Optics+Paper on someone still pushing triremes has COMPLETE control of the seas, and that's way too easy to do. Re:4116. I want BUG please. I don't care if pbspy is flaky. |
