What am I missing? (seriously speak up if I am)
Could I get a summary for the map preferences? Nine people, right? Difficulty?

1) Settings:
Fractal Pangaea with lots of lakes that looks kind of like a fritter...
Monarch level
mapsize and other settings at mapmaker's discretion. Only request is balanced starts. Rest can be natural like 44.
No villages, events, vassal states, technology trading.
Normal barbs
All scout and no war until 25

*Map description and natural don't really mesh. Mind the natural part was just to lure a mapmaker lol . With 9 I imagine we are looking at a large map. Give us greens some room to make a mess. But you know your business better than I do so  whip

Are we sure we want to do blind leader-civ picks without starting screenshots as described in the OP? I figure there's a reason almost every game these days does it the other way around, if only to avoid feel-bad moments. Especially if the pick method is assigning points to Agriculture civs, it could be real awkward to pick one and then not have a grain in the BFC.

EDIT: Presumably it's not a deal-breaker for any of else since we all signed up, and for a more casual game it's not as big of a deal as it might be in a more veteran setting, but with Civ being as snowbally as it is, it could be a bit rough for players who get off to a slower start hooking up their first food resource, and there are some otherwise-interesting civ picks that could be a real liability if played into an AH-food-only start.

for base BTS games its specifically better to do it this way than the "normal" way. As there are only so many Agriculture civs. At least thats the reasoning i see.. It seemed to work out for pb44? ( other than Gavagai having a crapload of really good grassland vs say... my plains heavy shithole.... /wink /wink nudge nudge.

Alright, fair enough. Just gotta take that into consideration when picking, I suppose.

I just stole the point system. Just wanted a base bts game and also didn't want to try to hash out any changes. As most of us are green, our opinions probably aren't worth the most either. However, early game is all about food and agriculture is one of the expensive starting techs and leads to AH and pottery. The odds of starting with neither an agriculture or AH food resource in a curated map are low (although 44 didn't but still those other things I said). China at 2 points is partially because its considered to have the perfect starting techs.

I certainly liked the point system because it gives lots of things to think about. I posted a list earlier with all the other games point systems have been used if you want to read players opinions. Just read like 2 pages in most of the threads of some of the top players.

The point system as it stands only makes sense if the starts are not given in advance. otherwise I would not grant point for china or agri civs.

Could you please explain this point system for Snake Pick, please? Is it the same that used for Pitboss 49? Or is it there any post as a reference?

What about the war declarations and double turns, etc?

I can't help on the snake pick points system, but rb's collected wisdom on pitboss etiquette is here:
