Clearly Nurse is ours, as Dave isn't making any attempt to steer us away, and we were fairly clear that we intended to select it next.


As for the clue at hand, I actually don't see any obvious connections, but most words don't seem to fit in any sense I can determine. Atlantis (Greek, close enough) and Figure (Plato was one) seem the best fits.

Temple is the only thing I've got right now.  Lots of Greek temples.  I think of philosophers hanging out in temples back then etc.  I would pick that one first for sure if I was picking.

Unless Lock is a play on philosophers (Locke), cast refers to shadows (I think there is something about tangible and not tangible shit or something in terms of Platonic ideals and the "shadows" of those ideals, it's been 20+ years since I had Phil 101), figure has to do with numbers in some way, or Atlantis has something to do with him...frankly, I'm at a loss after temple.

Okay, then NURSE should be a safe bet as that was our preferred guess.

Two other words jumped out on me:

I`m no expert on philosophy but I recall from university that Plato made a FIGURE on the wall. (Something about a shadow representing the real world).
The other word might be TEMPLE as those buildings were important in ancient Greece.

Um, I can`t see any other words that make sense. Did Plato write about ATLANTIS? I`m more confident about FIGURE than TEMPLE.

JR4, I also vaguely recalled something about shadows and Platonic ideals, so I think your recollection may be solid.

I would tend to go Nurse-->Temple-->Figure in that order and pass.

Wouldn't Figure + Temple be easy to clue with any number of explicitly religious roles? Pretty sure that's the pair we'd pick if Dave went with Pope (2) or Prophet (2) or whatever. Whereas Atlantis and Figure are awfully difficult to clue.

Im good with temple + Atlantis. Greek temples/buildings were famous for their philosophers and Plato did right something about Atlantis.

That is true.  Temple could've been clued in far easier ways.  If you feel somewhat certain on Atlantis, I'm fine with going that direction.

OK, cross-post with superdeath who says he wrote something about Atlantis, so I think that is a sure thing.

And I would go Figure over Temple as well, based on Bob's suggestion that Temple is easier to clue and notion about drawing a figure on the wall.  Those things seem more specifically Platonic to me than temple.  But I also still think Temple is strong.

So I would go Atlantis-->Nurse-->Figure/Temple

Next, I think most of us are good for Figure. I'd select it, followed by Atlantis. Temple is a possibility, but not my preference.
