Engineering - Guilds trade with Darrell ... it's an even trade, so even if the rest of the Liberalism deal falls through it's a safe trade. I accept, though with some misgivings.

Stone off to SL for a period.

Gunpowder up next, but back down to 0% for a turn at least.

Trebizond: Buddhist Temple - Caravel (to be whipped ASAP)

Constantinople interrupts the MoM to start a Grocer - worth a min of 4gpt.
Angora whips the Buddhist Temple; I'll queue up a 1t Warrior next since the city still has no MP.

Darrell has Education now and has Liberalism due in 4t. No Gunpowder yet, which is a good incentive to hold off research for now (not to mention lack of funds & Edu). Would be due in 4t at max-burn.

I notice that SL's borders have expanded at Galle giving him access to a second Ivory. I have nothing to offer in trade right now, but he lacks Crabs and the Blue Dot set are inside Adrianople's borders. I slip a 1t Workboat into Thessa's queue ahead of the Barracks.

Well Liberalism is out; Darrell got Education this turn and is now showing 4t on Liberalism. Krill hasn't handed him Gunpowder yet, so I've not dialed up research on it myself. It'll be a 4t research and will cost ~300g of which I now have 195, so I'll start on it next. If Darrell is going to grab Astronomy for us (this needs to be confirmed), then I think SL's next target should be Nationalism for Drafting.

The one I have out right now is heading East from Adrianople to look at the north of Krill's territory, de-fog the area and spot additional city positions.

The one I started in Trebizond is going to be whipped because the city has few tiles to work and costs a BOMB in upkeep if it gets large. Plus I want to have a look at Krill's nearby cities to assess threat levels and also explore the region immediately South of Trebizond for settling prospects.

The other two I'm building for defense & spying - keeping track of Krill's military build-up and making sure he can't just run in a couple of Galleons without risk or guards.

To that end I'm also going to be chopping down some of the island Forests (much as I don't want to) so that if he lands troops they will be on flat land.

SL's got Education and is now showing 4t on Liberalism. Darrell's showing 3t, so will beat SL by 2t. I'll send him a note about it. Gunpowder dialed up, and I'll need an additional ~125g, I send Ruff a request and also offer him Paper so he can get Edu from SL.

Progress report:

Darrell is showing Liberalism in 3t, while SL shows 4t. Due to turn order, that means he'd beat us by 2t so unless you can get it down to 2t before hitting End Turn next turn, I think the sniping plan is out. He doesn't have Gunpowder yet, but I kicked off my research this turn. I'll need something on the order of 125g to fund the rest of the teching so I requested that from Ruff - offered Paper. SL, could you offer Edu to me on your next turn (take Guilds) so that I get the research discount on the 'powder.
