I've heard of astronaut ice cream, but not astronaut chocolate. I suppose it's something along similar lines, specially engineered to avoid excess smudging or something?
Well played, Blue team.
As Red, we had 8 words and 4 of them were BUFFALO/TAIL/HORN/TRACK. So how could we lose? Oh yeah, CALF was the assassin! It was clear to me that we could not win in two rounds, so I had to play cautiously and avoid giving Blue a free word, just to make sure we would get a third round. But then I couldn't think of an easy way to win in three rounds, either! I was quite proud of Air, a way to cut through the board and target just the right words. I think a couple of people got this: the idea with that clue was not to identify words associated with Air (there were too many) but words that could form a phrase/compound with Air: airplane, air force, air horn. After that, it would have been so easy without TABLE, which was very akward to pair. Something like City 2 (TOKYO/BUFFALO) and Surveil 2 (TRACK/TAIL) would have done it. It didn't help that I couldn't use the primary meaning of BUFFALO/TAIL because of the risk of CALF, and I know next to nothing about Buffalo the city. I toyed with the idea of a Civ reference: Settle 3 for TOKYO/BUFFALO/TABLE, that last being to settle/table an argument/discussion. Even though most people here probably have settled those cities, TABLE was still too much of a stretch with SINK on the board. So I stretched in different direction, but the team (not unexpectedly) couldn't follow my logic. Olympic was meant for TRACK/TOKYO, with TABLE as a reach word. A table with the medal count by country is in every paper and broadcast when the Olympics are happening, and table tennis is an Olympic sport. Leaving out the 's' was only meant to get the team to try it out as an adjective: "Olympic track", "Olympic table tennis", etc. If I had intended an ancient Greek reference, I probably would have gone with Olympian. Unfortunately, no one mentioned TABLE. MARBLE and AUSTRALIA I expected, but I thought the team would leave MARBLE alone as the strongest remaining Chocolate word (which would hopefully delay Blue further) and AUSTRALIA was an acceptable miss. That having failed, and unable to think of any single clue for BUFFALO/TAIL/TABLE, I tried to mess with Blue. Furniture 1 was supposed to be read as: team, you're on the wrong track, you can't win this round anyway, so just clear TABLE and skip the +1. Blue was considering AUSTRALIA for Shipping, so I was hoping for a bit of misdirection. With all that said, Given 3 was such a clever clue that I'm not sure Blue would have gone for MARBLE/AUSTRALIA even if one or both were still on the board. The final clue for BUFFALO/TAIL was going to be Wing 2. (June 4th, 2020, 19:27)Azoth Wrote: I was quite proud of Air, a way to cut through the board and target just the right words. Not to take anything away from the clue, but as a lurker with interest in aviation/flightsimming I was certain that Space was red because Airspace is a thing, and I would've been arguing for it over Horn. Good thing I don't play these games eh (June 4th, 2020, 19:27)Azoth Wrote: That having failed, and unable to think of any single clue for BUFFALO/TAIL/TABLE, I tried to mess with Blue. I knew something was up with the 1 clue despite AUSTRALIA being grey, and some time after my initial post I was left with the conclusion that one of BUFFALO/CALF must be red and the other black which turned out to be correct. Didn't want to say that out loud though, in case we didn't get all our words. Anyone up for another game?
Always.

I got very excited, because airspace was my first thought too. And then nobody even mentioned it.
