ROULETTE, VET, and TELESCOPE?
If only you and me and dead people know hex, then only deaf people know hex.

Aside from VET nothing stands out. If I had to pick 2 more words I would probably have to say YARD and LOCK, but am happy to switch them to almost anything within reason.

Okay, let`s see. The first word that jumped out on me was ROULETTE - in the sense of Russian roulette. A VETeran is trained at using guns. I feel quite confident about those two guesses.

Guns sometimes have LOCKs, so that the weapons don`t go off by chance. I could also see CHECK as in carefully checking that the gun is ready for use before actually firing.

VET and Roulette for sure.

The difficult part is simply between LOCK and Telescope.

Lock, because you A: lock your guns away ( supposed to ) and B: FlintLOCK guns are a thing.

Telescope because of all the various telescopic sights on guns.

Id say point to VET-Roulette then take the pick between those 2.

A number of options for our last word, I think our preferred word is LOCK followed by TELESCOPE so let's use TELESCOPE as the +1.
