Turned out Raskol didn't 4 pop whip a world wonder. I have no idea what he whipped if that's the case. He did get a Great Prophet out of Stonehenge and used it to build the Jewish shrine, so that's even more cultural pressure against my borders. I finish Currency next turn and I'm settling my 7th city next turn, so things should definitely start picking up for me as I start to pull ahead on techs. When I moved my settler to the spot I picked out for city 7, I discovered this:
That's certainly an odd stretch of land for Gavagai to have roaded his way out to. Is he planning on settling a city on the green hill with no food resources, maybe? We might be allies but trying to squeeze in like that isn't going to fly with me. Between that and milking 36 hours out of the timer per turn, I'm not as happy as I could be with him.

I'm getting my 8th settler out in 2 turns, I'm going to be using it as a filler/satellite city for my capital. I've kept exploring up here and this area feels like it might have been nudged a little by the mapmaker, there are some pretty solid spots that I can settle before anyone else has a chance to get to them. I wonder what other people have available as their island options? Based on the trade routes I'm getting from my OBs with 3/5 people, there's a good chance I'm the only one that's got an island city planted so far. I don't have OBs with Superdeath and he's got 10 cities now, so it's likely that he's got at least one. I'm #3 in GNP at 0% slider.
Techwise, I'm researching HBR and then I'll probably go for Construction. The next round of tech trades we've got planned is me with Currency, GKC with Metal Casting, Gavagai with Calendar. Nothing terribly exciting. After those trades, I'll have to decide whether I'm going for Code of Laws or straight to Machinery -> Feudalism. We'll see how dangerous things are looking in 10-20 turns.
Militarily, I'm going to start building swords to go take the barb city to the south of Botulism. No reason for me not to go after it and I can build the best swords out of anybody right now. Other than that, I'm keeping an eye on Raskol's border and not seeing any major threats yet, no power spike is coming yet and I'm middle of the pack on soldiers.

Love your naming scheme!! I used a similar one in PB18, I think it was. Might have been PB9, I don't remember.

Thanks! I felt like going with something topical and it was either diseases or 2020 presidential candidates.

You missed the opportunity to combine both themes. But honestly great theme. I still can't spin my head around the top bar saying "Great Scientist: AIDS". Will that Scientist have AIDS? Will he cure it?

If Elizabeth Holmes was one of the options for Great Scientist names I'd have a better answer for you.

That would be a pretty poor choice for a Great Scientist name considering what went down with Theranos and the blatant fraud they were committing with their testing capability claims :/

You're right, she'd make a much better Great Merchant.

I've made it pretty obvious that I want to conquer this barb city. He's made it pretty clear he also wants to conquer it. We can't both conquer it so this might turn into the first real conflict of the game. Honestly, it would end up being a stalemate that doesn't gain anything for either of us if we do end up fighting over it, since we're at tech, production, and military parity right now with no clear tactical advantages anywhere, so maybe I can sell him on the idea of razing it and splitting the capture gold instead? Both of us settling cities on either side of the river would work out best in the long run.
He can't really strike out at me because he doesn't have offensive roads or workers in the area to build them, I can't hit him because I don't have many HAs yet and he has that huge Stonehenge border to slow me down. If there's one thing I've learned about Civ 4 it's that grinding wars just put both teams so far behind they'll never catch up to the guys who stay out of them, and this one would be a grinder if it breaks out. I feel like it's out of character for someone playing Boudica to be trying to keep things calm, but I just don't want to start wars I can't win quickly.
