Several possiblities: the first that came to my mind was about sewing or scrapbooking. Crafting in RPGs is also a thing, used to make potions, armor, or weapons, I believe. Also, some occupations which require skilled use of hands are called crafts.
So:
STRING and BUTTON fit the first sense.
A SUIT or SLIP could be crafted by a tailor or seamstress.
A CAP could be crafted by a haberdashser.
Making a PIANO takes a great deal of craft, ditto for a MICROSCOPE.
Apprenticing to a craft results in TRAINing.
Less plausible home crafting words: some people, especially women, are NUTs for their crafts. TICKing is a word I've heard related to sewing.
Pre-spoilers, I like BUTTON, STRING, and PIANO, in that order.
Post-spoilers, maybe Bob (edit: and sunrise) is right with BALL (of yarn) for the third word.
Point to BUTTON.
Point to STRING.
