Pink Dot IT Office - Email and technical issues thread - All welcome, all the time

So I connect to the game, and usually it says "Connected to host" (not connecting), but keeps scrolling the green status bar. Sometimes I get to the leader picker screen (but usually not), but if I do, when I enter my password and click OK, nothing happens. CivStats seems to think I've logged in but I never get into the game.
I have a new wireless router, and I've configured it to allow all the civ ports to forward to my computer, based on this thread http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=146735 as well as port 2061 (game port) I tested the ports on portforwarding.com and it claims to be forwarding Anyone have any ideas?
Does it work ok if you connect it directly to your cable modem or whatever you are using to get your internet connection (i.e. bypass the wireless router)?
That should confirm whether or not it's a local problem between your PC and the wireless router (which seems most likely) and not, say, a problem with your PC or firewall. Or if you have a laptop, try connecting from that instead. When you set up port forwarding on your router, did you do it for both TCP and UDP? You only need UDP as far as I'm aware, for the game port (2061). You might want to get rid of the other rules in case they are causing problems (for example, there might be a limit to the number of rules it can effectively process, even if one isn't explicitly advertised). Does your router also support wired ethernet connections? If so, does that work? If it's just a flakey wireless connection you could try changing the channel your router transmits on, or get a more powerful antenna for your PC... I assume that you've also tried (temporarily) turning off your firewall? Are you able to connect to any other pitboss games?
RBP1 reloaded to the start of the newest turn. That instance of Civ crashed. In my 8-hour pitboss game (which I won, hooray!) hosted by another player the game seemed to crash in the extreme lategame. I've taken civstats down for RBP1 in case that was a contributing factor, but rest assured the game was rolled to 1795AD.
It will crash again when Rego launches his spaceship. However, there is a workaround. Thanks to Elkad for finding this info on CFC:
Quote:If anyone else encounters this problem: the game of the 'launching' player will not crash, but simply lose connection. So (s)he can then save the game and send that savegame to the host. When the host loads that savegame the game continues with the space ship launched. Make sure not to launch at the beginning of the turn, but after you've been through the city building phase. So, reload the turn, rego doesn't launch right away when he logs in, but goes through the city building phase, moving units etc, then launch at the end of the turn. Rego will then lose his connection to the host (the host crashes) but the game won't exit right away. Rego can make a local save (just hit CTRL-S) and email the file to sunrise. Then restart pitboss from that save, and we can continue with the spaceship launched. We did this successfully in the TG terribles twos pitboss game and also in the C&C3 pitboss game. (Sorry for not remembering this and mentioning something ahead of time).
Right - I found that link yesterday also. I will do that and let you know. How much time do we have on the turn?
Doh. I was having so much fun last turn I completely forget to launch my spaceship after making the rest of my moves. So I launched this turn instead (I still would have been 1 turn slower than rego so it doesn't really make much difference).
Sunrise: I've emailed the post-launch save to you so you can reload the game from there. Looks like the second launch did crash the game again, same as the first one. Cheers Munro |
