RB Pitboss #2 [SPOILERS] - Speaker and Sullla

Shrug, I guess drafting is illegal outside of your play period. I guess I haven't studied the 1,250 word rule well enough to learn all its intricacies. I think I'll have my lawyer look it over, and see if he can find a loophole.

You know, because common sense isn't good enough.

Just found this little nugget as I was perusing the IT thread, looking for the original discussion on the double move rules. Of course, he has been abusing the turn timer nearly every turn since. I'm glad he recognizes it was not in good faith.

Sullla Wrote:Good grief... I suppose the lesson is:

- Never post anything in your spoiler thread! If you play like Dantski and never post anything, no one can ever catch your mistakes!

Your mistake was "caught" in other player threads as well. No reason to stop posting... Please. smile

Alright, so if we're going to reload to Dantski's save from yesterday (which is before Speaker and I played our attack), we need to answer the following questions:

- Do we have to play at the exact same TIME on the timer? I mean, if we're going back in time, Speaker and I can stick within the game's rules and just move right at the end of the turn. Which is what we should have done yesterday, sigh.

- Do we have to replay the exact same MOVES the way we did before?

Keep in mind, Kathlete (and everyone else in the game) has now seen exactly how our attack was going to play out. We have lost all element of surprise. I'd be a little angry if we are forced to make the same moves in the same order at the same time, while also letting our opponent whip units to counter attacks he already knows are coming. That would really, really not be fair... rolleye

AFAIK Athlete is not allowed to move any units differently and any whips he may institute won't complete until the following turn anyway...

As annoying as all this may be to you guys, don't let it get to you. Relax and stay confident in the very high Civ skill level you have, don't worry too much about rules and (game) mechanics smile

After all, you conquered a 5:1 dogpile, this should be very minor compared to such a task smile

Another day, another turn, another 2 cities captured, abandoned by the Ottomans. We'll provide better stewardship than they ever did, that's for sure.

Note that Horse Archers have captured all four cities so far. And Sullla mocked me for including them in our war party! smile

Whoops, I meant to raze Bothawui, but in the excitement of the moment, didn't think about it, and installed a governor. Oh well!

Here is the tactical situation at the end of the turn.

I made a tactical mistake with my Guerrilla II Musket. I should have moved him through the hills to the tile SW of Hoth, and included a couple Cuirassiers for additional beef. This would "clear a path" to the city, and ensure that we could safely move to it next turn. Unfortunately I thought of it after I had already moved him into Bothawui. It shouldn't matter either way, with our overwhelming force, but it would have been the slick, awesome, l33t play. And I'm sort of annoyed by it because that's exactly why I built a single musket, for the double promotion! General Sunrise and General Regoarrar will get free promotions to become two-move Rifles in another 2 turns. That will open up some interesting plays for us, combined with Cuirassiers. Or combined with Cavalry, if we decide to spend a few turns worth of income on that.

Notice in the south, where following the capture of Corulag, we had the ability to move 4 Cuirassiers deep into Ottoman territory, and found 2 empty cities. Now it looks like they have already been slaved, but this is exactly what I was talking about earlier today. Kathlete has been caught with his pants down over here, leaving us two undefended cities. He has ended his turn. Should he be allowed to log back in, say "holy shit, I didn't realized they could get to those cities!" and then slave them? Does that make any sense? His turn is over! In any event, he did slave them earlier (I think), so I'd expect to see a unit in each next turn. I'd be happy to just capture Ord Mantrell.

Oh, and it wouldn't be a war without some cheese right? We are pretty sure that Kathlete is gifting all his gold per turn to Nakor, who continues to run 100% tech. To be clear, it is the second turn of the war, and he is already giving up. Sorry, but gifting away your gold for a bunch of turns, while the enemy kills you is almost as cheesy as gifting your cities. So Nakor basically gets to run his tech at 100% for 10+ turns as Whosit dies, and at least 10 turns here, probably more, since Kathlete has such entrenched culture, and a bunch of island cities. Does anyone think this is acting in good faith? Personally I think it's horrible sportsmanship.

Well done in demolishing athlete so well, at least for an opening act. Note to self: Invading one neighbor without making sure the other flank is secure either militarily or diplomatically? Not safe.

From what I can gather, the point of allowing whoever goes first to have some reactions is that it better balances having the first versus second half of the turn; you get to react by slaving after athlete makes his moves, so why can't he?

Not really the smartest play by Kathlete, for sure.

Going first has its own unique advantages.

Yeah, sneak-attacking both of your neighbors at various points in time probably isn't the best move, diplomatically speaking. lol

We are living in interesting times. While moving the workers last night, I had a chance to talk with slaze who logged into the game. He traded world maps with us, and revealed that he has enough espionage points to see Kathlete's cities. He also said he might be willing to send us screenshots of that (!), but that he was very busy with work and might not "have enough time." That sounds like a polite refusal to me, which is fine, but it's useful info for us regardless.

slaze sounded pretty confident in his tone that Kathlete wouldn't be around too much longer. That was backed up when he captured a city after I logged out, the city of Kashyyyk (Kathlete's original #2 city). The event logger also shows that a Great General named "Calrissian" died between turns, and I'm gonna guess that was an Ottoman unit. So things are looking good over on slaze's end. thumbsup

I took a look this morning at the new turn, T208:

We got a Great Prophet out of Spartansburg! jiveOur odds were about 50% Merchant, 25% Scientist, 20% Prophet, and slight chances of Engineer and Artist. I've moved him to Chancellorsville, where we can build the Jewish Shrine this turn, but haven't actually done so just yet in case we want to use for a Golden Age. I don't recommend doing that, however! We should take the shrine: there are 20 Jewish cities in the world right now, so that's 40 gold/turn immediately. More as we continue to spread the religion. Let's take it!

Here's an overview shot of Kathlete's territory. I marked Kashyyyk's location (now the Incan city of Liberta), and noted that for whatever reason both Ord Mantell and Tatooine are undefended. We'll see what Kathlete chooses to do down here; his knights can reach both cities, but that will open up his knights to destruction, and we've got a perfect fork on both cities. What will he do? huh

Also received this big diplomatic message from Dantski:

Quote:Hi Guys

War with HRE is imminent. 3 turns left on our NAP and they have now closed borders without any communication. Unless they screw up horribly I will likely be losing cities as I only have a few muskets and catapults vs a Rifle led attack.

Any assistance would be massively beneficial.

-Dantski

In other words, Nakor's not being a fool after all! He's picked a good time to strike, with us being occupied over with Kathlete. Nevertheless, we can probably offer some assistance to Dantski (which would definitely be in our own interests). Even a couple of rifles would do a lot to slow down Nakor's forces.

Here's what I sent back:

Quote:Dantski,

Message received. Speaker and I will discuss the situation today and get back to you ASAP. It will be tough due to our current war with Kathlete, but I think we should be able to give you some help.

Sullla
The Killer Angels

Let me throw out some ideas here, and Speaker can elaborate:

- We'll have Rifling tech next turn, and a lot of cities have muskets in the queue which will be auto-upgraded to rifles. We could (not sure if we should!) gift some of these units to Dantski.

- Upgrades: here's a fun idea. Dantski can gift his muskets to us, then gift us gold to upgrade them to rifles; we upgrade them with his gold, then gift them back. It's effectively a way for him to get rifles himself without having the tech... and without us having to build or upgrade them!

What do you think? We definitely would rather not have Nakor on our borders if we can avoid it...

While Kathlete pays homage to the attorneys, he fails to comprehend the fierce nature of the deity guiding the weapons of your warriors.

Indra (Devanagari: इन्द्र ) is the King of the gods the God of War, Storms, and Rainfall.

"May the strong Heaven make thee the Strong wax stronger: Strong, for thou art borne by thy two strong Bay Horses. So, fair of cheek, with mighty chariot, mighty, uphold us, strong-willed, thunder armed, in battle." (RigVeda, Book 5, Hymn XXXVI)
