I mean getting more research or power points is nice, buffing units with more hp and (non stacking with holy weapons) +1 HIt is nice but if you compare it to time stop or power link or mass invisibility or spell binding or all the big overland mass killing spells or chaos end of the world economy killers ... It just seems Life has its time up until the rare era and after that it just can´t really compete with the other realms power progression anymore.
So having this as a very rare spell, that given it´s opportunity cost probably will see only very limited use (and than for limited effect) and given Life´s lack of "game changers" is somewhat disappointing.
I agree the life realm very rare spells kind of suck and as a result I almost never take 10 life books.
However call to arms isn't the least fun and least interesting one. So the problem isn't call to arms, it's that no one has thought of better life realm very rare spells to replace whatever is the least interesting one.
IMO the least interesting life realm very rare spells are: Enlightenment and Holy Arms... but if you look at the life very rare spells... most of them are entirely new effects in caster of magic. The root problem here I think that is maybe making people hate on call to arms is the fact that in 1993 when someone came up with ten very rare life realm spells they did a really job and it's the most boring realm at the very rare tier by far. IMO seravy has improved this situation greatly, just not enough to wipe away that stigma in most players eyes.
All that said life has my favorite suite of common spells around. So, when I want to take 3-5 picks worth of retorts life is a strong contender in my eyes.
Ten book + specialist though? I'd personally never want to take life over any of the other four realms. In fact I don't think I've taken ten life books at all since like 1995.
