RB Pitboss #2 [SPOILERS] - Speaker and Sullla

Stupid, lame cheaters.

I don't blame them though. Spending lots of time on a competitive game that you see no way to win doesn't look very good. The more minor teams probably hang on just because for them it's fun to see how long they can last, but for the larger teams...

If you guys really want to, then you may try to convince them to stay in the game. Though in reality I really don't see any way to do so. Out of the remaining players, time does not favor slaze (due to his near-bankruptcy) or plako/Broker (due to their economy being practically dependent on the Great Lighthouse), Dantski knows that he is screwed as far as winning goes, and Nakor/DMOC can't make anymore conquest progress, since now they have you guys to worry about.

I don't blame them for conceding, if that is what they decide to do. Nakor's economy is severely crashing now, due to his over-slaving, his huge unit numbers, and our coastal blockade. I think his GNP is now less than half of ours, and of course ours is improving every turn as the Ottoman comquests grow onto towns and villages, while his just gets worse and worse as his cities starve and he continues to slave and draft more units. The rest have no chance to win. Conceding when the game is clearly over is a very common aspect of multiplayer. There's no sense in making the other players waste hours (or in this case, months) when the outcome is already clear.

I am just sad that we may not get to see our tech rate up to 70 or 80% and how amazing our 2-2-9 river towns will be with Universal Suffrage + Levee + Free Speech Town. And how beautiful our 2-4 grassland workshops would be with State Property + Caste System + Chemistry. That's like a grassland Iron on any tile we want!

Oh well.

Plus, as I mentioned, he can't go warmongering anywhere right now. If he tries to go after plako and slaze, you and Dantski will likely pounce on the opportunity to eliminate the one remaining "superpower". After that the game is basically won. From what I've seen that's the main flaw of Civ4 for skilled human players against the AI, but I didn't expect it to be so for humans against other humans. Bah.

However I see one way of justifying the supposedly unfair 5vs1 on you guys: Jowy and Dantski were both probably afraid that you'd grow too powerful in the future and come after them, and Athlete may have been feeling the same way (you guys would've likely wanted revenge for Byzantium's elimination). They then propagandize Nakor, and then enlist the help of supposedly elite Roman legions to make the attack seem unstoppable. In the end, it was simply outdone by poor planning on their parts, as what was supposed to be a 5vs1 ended up really being more of a 3vs1, which is very manageable by a skilled human player.

Every other team in this game that got attacked by more than one team (i.e. they got on the wrong side of a 2:1) subsequently folded like a deck of cards. So to me, saying that the 5:1 dogpile was "practically" a 3:1, which is "very manageable", is a gross understatement. I think most players would simply give up facing those odds; having to defend on two fronts against 5 other teams, with no allies anywhere in sight.

Haven't you just learned to ignore Dr. Nomadic yet? He has never even played MP civ. How would he know what is and isn't manageable? smile

I'm on vacation and not following this too closely, but if the other teams want to concede, by all means let them. Our goal from the very first email that Speaker and I exchanged was to win the game. As long as we get that win, I'm not too particular about ending now versus playing to the finish. Don't get me wrong - if I had a choice, I'd prefer to keep on going, kicking ass and taking names right up we won by Domination. But as Speaker said, this game is pretty close to over. I certainly understand if others don't want to keep playing to let us massage our egos.

Did want to see us get to show off the power of lategame State Propery, Caste System, and Universal Suffrage for awesome production though, sigh. Maybe in the next game...

So does this mean you'll actually be playing in another pitboss game?

No idea. Probably depends on if Civ5 is any good, or we stick with Civ4 for more years to come.

More importantly, VoiceofUnreason updated the Table of Contents on the first page. Thanks! thumbsup

In fairness, one of the things RBP1 did do well was show off caste+SP+USufferage. Munro and I in particular may not have posted much, but we both had factories+awesome watermill, workshop, windmill, and town tiles (bonus for me b/c of Financial). We'd never match (or at least I would never match) the empire wide numbers of India in this game, but while it'd be nice to see this game played through, I don't think the community has lacked a demonstration of late-game production.

Except no one ever reported so we never had a clue wink.
