Nexomon Extinction

Let's Play Nexomon Extinction Part 1:  Pokemon Parody

Any Realms Beyonders who believe Pokemon has declined over the past few installments may want to try out Nexomon Extinction.  I'm playing on Switch, but there's also a Steam version if you want to follow along.

Nexomon Extinction opened with a cutscene suggesting that the tone would be more grim than Pokemon.  Some people were playing with Nexomon in one part while the narration said "This world is build over millennia of friendship, loyalty and love. . .".  Only a couple of seconds later, the screen turned dark and the narration said "And that. . .is what fools like to believe". The true origin of Nexomon taming is turning Omnicron's creations against it, so the "Arceus" equivalent is evil in this game.

After the cutscene, I was told to name and create an avatar for my character as an airship was about to crash.  I named him HERMAN.  One sequence suggested that HERMAN was going to be the villain of the story, though this may have been a dream.  Naming him in ALL CAPS like a Final Fantasy Legend 1 character was the right thing to do, since he SHOUTED all his DIALOGUE.  Nora asked "You do know what day it is.  Right?"  HERMAN said "WHAT?"

Nexomon Extinction began making fun of Pokemon dialogue before HERMAN even left the Orphanage.  "Technology sucks!  Why can we only carry six Nexomon at a time?  That makes no sense".  Hidden items indicated by glowing spots took more inspiration from Final Fantasy:  Ether, Potion, Elixir.

EDIT:  Those are all items in Pokemon too, original poster who has the brain of a jellyfish!   shakehead

One NPC wondered about dragon Nexomon:  "They showed up, like, two decades ago.  Nobody knows why".  Maybe for the same reason that hundreds of new Pokemon species continue to appear in heavily urbanized areas?

A hooded woman said "something dangerous is coming our way" while the screen was washed out, as if HERMAN were meeting a member of the Psijic Order.  He responded "OKAY, WHERE SHOULD WE HIDE?".  She told him to go north where a "fake statue" with a "secret chamber underneath" could be found.

When a Level 45 Legendary Nexomon called GRALOON with 616 HP was about to attack, the hooded woman gave HERMAN a choice of not 3, but 9 starters!  Here's the list:

Ghost:  BEHILDA
Water:  NOKI
Fire:  LUME
Physical:  DINJA
Plant (?):  MARA
Psychic:  MASQUITI
Mineral:  TREBLY
Electric:  GEKOKO
Wind:  MEARN

Types are indicated by symbols, so I could only find out some of their names by looking at attacks and Nexomon "Pokedex" text.  I chose BEHILDA since I wanted a different type from the usual Pokemon Grass/Water/Fire.  The choice was meaningless in the GRALOON battle, but at least BEHILDA got in a Phantom Abyss and dodged a Meteor Shower before falling to Fire Claw.

A ghost of a famous Nexomon tamer took the party underground to his tomb, where he explained how to catch Nexomon.  "I know that you're trying to skip this tutorial, so let's get this over with".  There are a few differences in Nexomon, however.  You can feed monsters to increase the capture percentage like Dragon Warrior Monsters, and there's a simple quick time minigame when you throw a Nexotrap.  Only shaking grass starts random encounters.

HERMAN caught SKUNQUTE, along with FANLING, RUBBY, STINGER, CALFTER, and WOOZY.  When he reached the 6 limit, HERMAN sent RUBBY to storage since it was Common, and Nexomon power levels seem to be based on rarity.  Starters are Ultra Rare by default.  Still trying to figure out the type matchups, but Ghost seems to be good against Physical Nexomon rather than the weird mutual immunity between Ghost and Normal Pokemon.  There aren't any dual type Nexomon, so I wonder how the developers could make over 380 creatures without running out of ideas.

The ghost tamer healed HERMAN's Nexomon like a Pokemon Center.  Nexomon don't have PP for individual moves like Pokemon, but instead use a stamina meter for all their moves.  This was probably intended to prevent you from winning the game easily with a solo character.  Stronger attacks also have lower turn order priority, as opposed to using the same Speed stat for most moves.

HERMAN climbed back to the northern part of the forest, where Amelie the Tamer's Guild master was arguing with Coco.  She thought they "must be seeing things", but Coco replied "You are talking to a cat".

So far I'm enjoying the game.  You can easily tell it's an indie game, from the "cheap" graphical style that I can't describe adequately to the Unity engine logo.  Be sure to keep reasonable expectations if you play Nexomon Extinction.

EDIT:  There is variant potential for this game!  Custom Mode unlocks after you beat the game according to Steam, which includes many modifiers for future playthroughs.  The Switch version has Custom Mode in a menu as well, but I can't turn it on for this Normal mode file.

Let's Play Nexomon Extinction Part 2:  Selling Souls To Exdeath

HERMAN began this session by trading 200 Coins, a Potion, and an Ether to an NPC for a Pickaxe.  Now he could mine for shards which could be used to create items.  Shard veins respawn over time, so you can always return and get more.

An NPC in one area to the east explained that "strange boulders" could be broken to fully heal the party.  These must not have been in the original release of Nexomon Extinction according to Coco:  "How many players had to complain to make this happen?"  HERMAN captured a SHROMPORO, a Plant type monster with two mushrooms attached to a log.  It was a placeholder Nexomon, but at least its Fauna attack was useful when other monsters were ineffective.

Salem to the north looked a bit like a cartoon devil with a white mask, and challenged HERMAN to a game of Simon combined with the Lost Woods from Zelda.  I passed on the first try, and could have used the Switch 30 second video feature if my abysmal short term memory failed me.  Salem gave HERMAN a Vault Key for some hidden treasure after his victory.  A nearby treasure chest had a Masquiti Companion.  Maybe it's an exclusive item for the Psychic starter?

HERMAN ran out of Nexotraps and had to visit the convenient temporary merchant to buy some more.  Fortunately they were only 50 Coins each.  Deena was revealed to be the hooded Psijic Order woman from the beginning in a cutscene at the Orphanage, but she ordered HERMAN to "shut your mouth" about her secret.

Enemy tamers don't seem to have names in Nexomon Extinction, so I'll have to describe the battles as best as I can.  The first one HERMAN found had a Level 8 EQO and a Level 7 SCARATIC, both Electric (?) type.  BEHILDA the starter defeated EQO and dealt considerable damage to SCARATIC with Phantom Abyss, though I had to switch out to SKUNQUTE and finish off the beetle with Rocknite.

The area to the south specialized in Ghost and Psychic Nexomon, and one NPC offered 2 of each typed Nexotrap in exchange for 1 normal Nexotrap, 1 Revive, and 100 Coins.  HERMAN took the deal and continued until he found another tamer.  The enemy had a Level 6 Ghost type GHOUZE and a Level 8 Psychic type YUMMO.  GHOUZE fell to Phantom Abyss and a quicker Dark Flame, though Psychic Blast from YUMMO was too much for my starter.  Bite and Rocknite from SKUNQUTE were ineffective although the moves were separate types.  Not sure how I won here because my Switch screenshots and videos didn't record it.  Probably just throwing more Nexomon at the problem.

One battle against a Mr Mime MIMI and a Level 7 Ghost type PRANKROW (scarecrow) required the assistance of SHROMPORO, though a Double Slash from WOOZY dealt the final blow.  HERMAN caught some redundant Nexomon, then found one of the best surprises of the game so far: a wild LUME!  Starters can be caught in the wild in Nexomon Extinction, probably because it's more focused on single player rather than trading with other people.  A CRUFF in the grass north of the Ghost/Psychic forest was only Rare, but would prove a useful Water type with Water Blast.

A gnarled tree with a permanent snarl offered to trade valuable items for DREAVER and GRIFF, although Coco was suspicious.  Both requested Nexomon were easy to find in the screen to the south, and HERMAN sold their souls to "Exdeath" in exchange for a Vault Key, a Golden Nexotrap (i.e. Master Ball), an Experience Core II, and a Greed Core II.  How generous!  The tree hinted at future sidequests later in the game.

One ghost near a tombstone wanted HERMAN to delete their browsing history in the Citadel.  In order to gain more features, hopefully including teleporter access, HERMAN continued with the main quest.  But he went over to the west for a bit and found out "cities are no more because of the lazy developers Tyrants".  One NPC gleefully told Coco and HERMAN about she forced her Nexomon to fight each other until fainting again and again.  Coco's response:  "Sometimes I feel like Omnicron did nothing wrong".  Another tamer wanted me to sell a RUBBY to him, but mine was in storage and I had no PC yet.

LUME's Incinerate had 120 power and destroyed opponents like one tamer with a Level 7 CLODDY and a Level 7 MASQUITI.  Its Stamina cost was high at 20, though.

The bridge to the capital was breaking, and one girl with pigtails was enough of a dolt to play jump rope on a narrow beam.  "Alright, I think I just figured out the Extinction part of the game's title", said Coco.  HERMAN walked into the city of Parum and learned about the shops, item crafting locations, and Pokemon Center equivalents.  I decided to end the session then and take a break.

Let's Play Nexomon Extinction Part 3:  Did They Have To Copy The Ice Sliding Puzzles Too?

A cop in Parum warned HERMAN that loitering was illegal, but when Coco pointed out that everyone in town was loitering:  "It can't be helped.  It's too expensive to draw them all walking around".  HERMAN learned that Nexomon wasn't a typical RPG when he sauntered into a house and was beaten up for breaking and entering!  Apparently he'd have to become at least a Silver rank tamer to earn enough trust to make uninvited visits.

HERMAN was eligible to become a Bronze tamer since he had at least one Nexomon.  He held the badge high for a few seconds like Link examining a treasure, but everyone stared until Coco asked what he was doing.

The first official Tamer's Guild mission was to accompany Videll the miner to the recently frozen lake and deal with the "rabid Nexomon".  But HERMAN wasn't about to finish the main quest when he could be distracted by talking to Parum's residents.  He learned there was a move relearner next to the "Pokemon Center" and picked up trash for a sidequest.  Searching for items revealed Secret Sauce for 3% higher meal bonuses and a Wind Whistle for +3% catch rate for Wind types.

In one laboratory, CRUFF defeated a Level 7 Psychic DIVETTE and a Level 8 Wind HYPHOON with the reliable Water Blast.  Some of these Mega Rare Nexomon escaped from the laboratory and could now be found in the wild.

Although Nexomon Extinction is less linear than Pokemon, NPCs still block the way to certain areas.  Khan Woods near Parum was restricted to scientists with Access Cards, so HERMAN couldn't enter.  He felt better after finding a Workout Charm for 3% Stamina recovery at the end of combat.

The Outlands east of Parum had tamers with Nexomon starting at around Level 8-9.  BEHILDA's Dark Flame succeeded against one Physical specialist with a DINJA and CANDLY.  CRUFF's Water Blast took out a Mega Rare Water type LURKOST.  If a tamer sent out BASIL the Physical type dragon, BEHILDA could be counted on to stop it.

But most of the interesting parts involved wild Nexomon.  RAPNUX was a Mega Rare Physical type bipedal fox.  MEARN the Wind starter cat soon followed.

Videll should have been escorting HERMAN rather than the other way around, since she defeated two "evil team" members without using Nexomon.  "I smash rocks for a living".  They didn't stay unconscious for long, and challenged HERMAN to a battle.  CRUFF soaked both RIMBOMBO the Fire type frog and SCARATIC the Electric beetle without much trouble.

A sidequest ordered HERMAN to find a missing girl somewhere in the Outlands.  She was exploring a ghost town and didn't want to come back, so it was time for another battle.  LUME scorched her Level 8 Electric type Chocobo CHRRINT and ALGON the Grass type seahorse with Flame and Incinerate.  (The latter is more like Fire Blast than the pathetic move Pansear has in Pokemon White.)

MEARN started to participate in battle now, and managed to defeat a Mineral type FORTLE with Icicle and Wind Pellet.  Icicle is NOT a Water type move unlike other Nexomon ice spells, but rather a Wind attack with a chance to freeze enemies.

FLOROZARD the Mega Rare bipedal Grass type lizard joined the team on the surface of Frozen Lake.  Even at Level 6, its Fauna spell overpowered a Level 9 Electric TESLING and a Level 7 Electric SMANIC in a tamer battle.  Nexomon appears to keep the "plants resist electricity" advantage from Pokemon.

When HERMAN descended into Frozen Lake's cave, he found the worst obstacle possible:  ice puzzles!  Did Nexomon Extinction really have to emulate the tedious parts of Pokemon too?  One room was tricky for me to figure out, so I got to see a crying emoji above my character's head for a while as he was slipping around.

Videll fell into a hole, and Coco recommended leaving the area and changing names.  But HERMAN insisted on rescuing her, and confronted the Water type Tyrant NIVALIS who had frozen the lake.  NIVALIS was Level ??, but started with 88/176 HP to give the player a chance.  All members of the active party saw action, but some were already hurting since I thought the game would be nice enough to give me a chance to heal before a boss battle.  The sole survivor was Level 11 CRUFF who held on with 2/33 HP to finish off NIVALIS with a Water Blast.  It certainly deserved to evolve into CRONCHO with that performance!

Clearing Frozen Lake gave HERMAN the ability to use Warpstones, the equivalent of Pokemon's Fly HM.  Warpstones are in specific locations and are not an Nexomon move or item.  When HERMAN revisited Parum to complete the quest, Amelie told him the truth about the Tyrants.  Humanity was suffering so many defeats because the Tyrants were all battling each other to see who would take Omnicron's vacant throne.

HERMAN explored the desert to the south of the Outlands and made MEARN fight some Mineral monsters like RUST to gain experience.  CRONCHO fended off DEEMBER the Fire type horse.  The local ruins functioned similarly to a Pokemon cave, where there were random encounters that didn't depend on grass patches.  HERMAN walked out before going in too deep.

Nameless Evil Team attacked the Orphanage where HERMAN grew up and took several kids hostage.  LURKOST and the Electric type RESONIC were no match for FLOROZARD's Fauna.  (Don't ask me why a Plant type move is named after something that is by definition not a plant.)  LUME defeated another villain and replaced Scratch with Disintegrate, a 20% buff for Fire type moves and debuff to enemy resistance to Fire.

Mentor revealed that there was one good Tyrant in the world, and this Tyrant of Light may be humanity's only hope.  He gave HERMAN a treasure related to this Nexomon, which was probably what the evil team was trying to find.

HERMAN's next destination was the Haunted Woods where he had found LUME and sold two Nexomon to an evil tree.  Rematches against trainers along the way allowed weaker Nexomon in the party to catch up.  LUME in particular was starting to fall behind, and it enjoyed Incinerating a Level 12 KROMICIDE scarecrow.  A thief charged into HERMAN, but he only found out what she had stolen when a mail carrier named Liam told him his story.

The Immortal Citadel was a good place to save the game and end the session for the day.  Will HERMAN manage to delete the Haunted Woods's ghost's browser history?  You'll have to wait until the next update to find out.

RAPNUX and FLOROZARD will never evolve.  Do all Mega Rare creatures follow this rule?  Nexomon don't learn many attacks outside their own type.  Except for RAPNUX, who seems to think it's a Wind type instead of a Physical monster.

Let's Play Nexomon Extinction Part 4:  Self-Fulfilling Prophecy

Hannah the thief challenged HERMAN to a battle when cornered on the upper floor of an Immortal Citadel house.  (Unlike Parum's residents, most Immortal Citadel people were ghosts who couldn't kick me out.)  Hannah sent out a Level 12 Psychic type LOVINU who fell to Dark Flame after an initial Soul Feeder cast.  Soul Feeder is slow but has a chance to drain some HP at the end of the turn.  MEARN threw Wind Pellets at a Level 11 Mineral type WORB spider until it fainted.  The level scaling seemed mild, since BEHILDA was 3 levels higher than Hannah's best monster.

But Liam revealed that Hannah was the proper recipient for the letter, so HERMAN had mugged her for nothing. He delivered the letter to her and both characters pretended that nothing had happened.

I talked to a move relearner to find out when RAPNUX would learn a Physical attack.  Not until Level 28 and Super Punch!  Pinsir from the older Pokemon games can relate to RAPNUX.

HERMAN did delete the ghost's browser history.  He just walked into an abandoned house and interacted with the computer.  The game offered to warp him back to the ghost to collect his reward.  What was in the browser history?  Probably nothing suitable for a children's game.  There wasn't even any innuendo in the dialogue.

At least one person in Immortal Citadel warned HERMAN not to trust the talking tree, but it was already too late for that.

An old man at the entrance of Eliza's house asked me to guess a secret number.  I immediately guessed the joke and chose "0000001".  One treasure inside was a "Behilda Companion", which I had no idea how to use.  Alfred the old man asked me to buy him 10 Nexotraps since Cooper the talking dog scared him.  Couldn't follow him to the east after that because there were NPCs blocking the way.

Eliza the psychic ordered HERMAN to get rid of 3 Nexomon attacking Immortal Citadel.  The 1st was a Level ?? CARCAROS Ghost mummy.  CRONCHO doused it with repeated Water Blasts.  Second was a Level ?? Physical type MONKAPOW which RAPNUX blew away with Gust Wind and Gust.  Third was a Level ?? Ghost type FOLICURSE which was weak to LUME's Fire moves.  Fire Stigma was an undisputed upgrade over Flame with 20 more power, 5% more accuracy, and 12 more SPD.  The only tradeoff was lower critical chance in exchange for a chance to inflict Bind.  BEHILDA evolved into HEDDECA and was now holding its head in its right hand.

When all the Level ?? monsters were defeated, HERMAN returned to Eliza.  She told him to wait until the kidnappers showed up so her prediction would become true.  The nameless Evil Team Leader had a team with decent variety, and he switched when he was at a disadvantage.  CRONCHO was injured early on and had to switch to LUME when the scythe wielding Ghost RIPHA appeared.  Evil Team Leader anticipated this and sent out a Level 13 Fire type IMBURION goat.  CRONCHO dodged one Flame Breath and cast Water Blast before fainting to Pummel.

I sent out RAPNUX as Evil Team Leader released a Level 13 Psychic type MASQAT, probably the evolved form of MASQUITI.  This part of the fight is missing from my Switch video/screenshot log.  The last video starts with IMBURION Pummeling MEARN and following up with Flame Breath when MEARN lost a turn to Demotivated.  I switched to HEDDECA, but my Ghost starter had to endure a critical Flame Breath.  Dark Flame and a Soul Feeder knocked out IMBURION and won the battle.  I wish I had recorded that middle part, since the AI was much better in Nexomon Extinction than in Pokemon.

Eliza revealed that she had sent the Level ?? Nexomon into the city to test HERMAN and make his Nexomon gain experience.  Coco thought that made her the real villain.  The "relic" HERMAN was carrying was really the egg for the Tyrant of Light, and he would have to travel around the world to find the method to hatch it.  Deena the hooded woman of the Tamer's Guild was appalled at the idea, since anyone who raised Tyrants became corrupt.  Atlanta from the Frozen Lake arc was the one who hatched NIVALIS, after all.  She believed in HERMAN enough to help, and suggested going to the Fire themed city of Ignitia to the east.

Let's Play Nexomon Extinction Part 5:  Ice Sliding. . .In An Active Volcano

Alfred was excited to train his Level 14 Physical type HOHOPI rabbit against HERMAN, only to be humiliated when MEARN froze it with Icicle.  He gave up on taming Nexomon forever.  One tamer with a Level 15 Psychic MINET clock and a Level 14 Ghost type DUKTAR claimed she was sent by the talking tree to keep other tamers from passing by.  Maybe he really is Exdeath.

RAPNUX learned a 110 power move called Gusty Storm and LUME evolved into LUMEFUR.  To the east there was the skeleton of KROMA the Tyrant whom Deena had defeated.  HERMAN defeated more tamers in the outskirts of Immortal Citadel and the desert to the south without much trouble.  MEARN earned enough experience by being in the leading slot to evolve into FELARNIA.  Water and Mineral type Nexomon seemed to be the most popular monsters among the enemies here, but Fire creatures like RIBOMBO sometimes appeared too.

Ignitia (or rather New Ignitia) was at the bottom of Grunda's Chasm, a pit in the eastern part of the desert.  This was a poor location for a city since MULCIMER the Fire Tyrant was attacking and there was no easy way out, especially after a dragon Nexomon knocked everyone off the elevator leading down.  Amelie recommended catching some Mineral Nexomon in the desert or Water types in the Frozen Tundra, but I had already settled on my team by now.

HERMAN took a detour into a cave where Fire type random encounters could be found anywhere.  To prepare for MULCIBER, I gave most of the experience to CRONCHO.  The cave was profitable for experience and elemental shards, but the real reward was finding a use for a Vault Key.  Spencer had placed 9 Vaults around the world, and this happened to be #3.  The floor was covered in gold coins and ingots, though HERMAN only took a few treasures:  350 Coins, 2 Wind Nexotraps, an Acegon Companion, an Ultra Revive, and a mysterious item called the Tribute of Blaze.

Jin looked like he wanted to be a kung fu master, but instead he was threatening New Ignitia with MULCIBER.  He had taken the "rival" Ross hostage and demanded that HERMAN defeat Atlanta and NIVALIS again to eliminate his competition.

Sure enough, part of the volcano was frozen.  At least the ice sliding puzzle here was less annoying than in Frozen Lake.  HERMAN found an Imburion Companion, and I still have no idea what those do.

Atlanta decided to throw her whole party at HERMAN this time instead of a half HP Tyrant.  FLOROZARD sicced Fauna on Level 17 BLIZZARM.  HEDDECA lost most of its HP while defeating HYPHOON the Level 17 Wind monster with Soul Feeder and a Dark Flame finisher.  A Level 18 DOMIGATOR (probably the final form of CRUFF) launched a Hydro Sphere at HEDDECA and exorcised my Ghost, but not before taking a Dark Flame.

CRONCHO avenged its teammate with a Water Blast and NIVALIS appeared at Level 16.  Then I got an idea.  If LUMEFUR could be Burned in the volcano despite being a Fire type, could Water types be frozen?  The answer was "YES".  CRONCHO's Ice Assault kept NIVALIS immobile for several rounds.  Quite good for only a 10% chance!  After a Water Blast splashed on CRONCHO, it was time to switch out to RAPNUX, who finished off the Tyrant with Gusty Storms.

Atlanta used her own warpstone to flee the volcano, and perhaps now it was time to find out how to defeat Jin and MULCIMER. . .

Let's Play Nexomon Extinction Part 6:  Advent Of The DEATH COUNT

Atlanta's teleporter unlocked South Ignitia, which Jin had tried to block with MULCIMER's flames.  The end of the next area was just to the south of New Ignitia and contained a temple with a redheaded man inside.  He turned out to be Fenrir, son of Omnicron.  Fenrir seemed to like Jin's ambition and destructive ways, but hated HERMAN because my character reminded him of Ulzar the hero who beat Omnicron.

Fenrir transformed into the Legendary Fire type FONA, a four-legged mammal with a flaming tail.  It was Level ?? like other bosses, had 249 HP, and took hits from my 17-21 team very well.  FONA was the first Nexomon to have the honor of causing a Game Over and used LUMEFUR's own Incinerate against HERMAN.

DEATH COUNT:  1

Boss Nexomon seemed to have fixed levels, and there were whole areas of the map that HERMAN hadn't explored yet.  So CRONCHO and friends beat up the tamers in Frozen Tundra, activated the local warp points, and forged some Synergy Core III items at the Parum laboratory to share the experience.  I also found a Cruff Companion.

When HERMAN warped back to South Ignitia, his team was at Levels 20-26.  He not only managed to defeat FONA, but to shame Fenrir when CRONCHO did not enter the arena at all.  HEDDECA, FELARNIA, and RAPNUX were sacrificed before LUMEFUR fought Fire with Fire with Incinerate and Fire Stigma.  The reward for winning was the first element for the Tyrant egg and the ability to "control fire".  HERMAN used this to put out MULCIMER's flames and start the boss battle with Jin's team.

Jin led with a Level 20 KEROSION, a living flame near a broken lamp.  When I switched to LUMEFUR, Jin sent out BISINA, a Level 18 Physical type cat.  BISINA was Incinerated, but its Super Slams sent LUMEFUR crashing to the ground for heavy damage.  LUMEFUR cast an Incinerate at Level 20 MULCIMER in an attempted sacrifice, but Jin switched to RESONIC the Level 21 Electric bat (?).  Incinerate burned RESONIC down to 41/72 HP and LUMEFUR dodged a Pummel.

But my Fire cat couldn't evade a Double Slash, and LUMEFUR fainted.  FLOROZARD somehow managed to take down KEROSION with Fauna after the enemy wasted one turn on Quick Feet and whiffed a Burn.  GRATH the Level 20 Fire ape had trouble hitting FLOROZARD too.  Fireball and Bite both missed.  When MULCIMER was forced to enter the fight again, FLOROZARD switched out to CRONCHO.  My Water crocodile evaded a Blaze but took damage from Fire Cross.  Water Blasts soaked MULCIMER until it died from a 4 damage printout.  Did Fire Cross have a recoil effect?

Renegade Lydia the samurai dodged MULCIMER's attacks when Jin tried to destroy New Ignitia and blew him away with her arts.  HERMAN got a Drake Sigil and was told to visit her, since she promised her dragons would be friendly.

I think a solo may be possible in Nexomon Extinction if the difficulty curve remains where it is now.  A Water type sounds like the best choice since they can Freeze difficult enemies with moves like Ice Assault.  Many healing items would be required in combat, unlike some Pokemon solos.

Let's Play Nexomon Extinction Part 7:  Should Have Looked At The Type Chart

What was HERMAN's first priority after ascending to Silver rank at the Tamer's Guild?  Ransack all the houses in Parum like an RPG protagonist, of course!  Some provided hints rather than treasure.  Palmaya was supposedly a place to catch Nexomon of every type accessible by a ferry.  But HERMAN didn't take the bait.  He pursued quests around New Ignitia and Parum, and held an interview saying his greatest fear was "HEAT DEATH OF THE UNIVERSE" and received a Vault Key.

A suspicious boy was on board the airship to the Drake Isles, but then again this was an airline that sold lifetime tickets for 200 Coins.  They couldn't afford better security.  Everyone praised the fighting prowess of dragons except for one NPC who said that they had weak defenses.  Leo, the suspicious boy wearing a skull instead of a hat, bribed the party with 3 installments of 50 Gold each to explore an abandoned laboratory later on.

Drake Isles' enemy tamers showed the difference between Nexomon and Pokemon in a dramatic fashion.  Nexomon Extinction lacks some of Pokemon's tactical depth because type coverage per individual Nexomon is limited, and dedicated ailment moves and buffs/debuffs seem less effective.  But Nexomon Extinction makes up for it by giving enemies more diverse teams with higher levels relative to your party.  I frequently switch out in battle, and each member is valuable if not equal.  (HEDDECA seems weaker than the rest since its moves have lower base power, and type matchups aren't as favorable:  Psychic and Ghost are mutually super effective.)

EDIT:  Nexomon Extinction doesn't distinguish between Attack and Special Attack, since all moves use the same stats.  This eliminates the possibility of a "Blissey" where a monster has good defenses in one category but is vulnerable to another.

Several warriors who worshipped Omnicron and the ancient Tyrants appeared and challenged HERMAN and Lydia.  HERMAN had to fight one of them since Lydia's katana skills were too much for the rest.  Good thing too, since HERMAN would never have won if he had to fight them all back to back!  A Level 23 FLOROZARD appeared first and LUMEFUR burned it with Incinerate and Fire Stigma.  A Level 24 Water type GREBAL appeared next, and my own FLOROZARD smacked it into red HP with Fauna until it switched to the Level 24 Wind type SORVIAN.

Instead of using a Wind attack, SORVIAN struck LUMEFUR with a Physical type Super Punch and forced me to sacrifice it to Slashing Current after a quick Fire Stigma.  (Lower base power moves often come out faster.)  CRONCHO soaked SORVIAN with Water Blast and the tamer swapped to the Level 24 Plant OUTGROV.  HEDDECA cast Soul Feeder for decent damage and 9 HP Leech per turn, and the ailment cut down the tree.  Dark Flame wasn't fast enough to outrun GREBAL's Whirlpool, but it still finished off the weakened Water type.

SIRNYMFA the Level 25 Water mermaid appeared next.  Fauna from FLOROZARD forced SIRNYMFA to switch out to SORVIAN after a few round.  Double Slash's Physical coverage allowed FLOROZARD to overcome its elemental weakness, but a Slashing Current reduced my Plant to 11/89 HP.  SIRNYMFA brought FLORZARD down to 2 HP, but one final Fauna won the battle.

Drake Isles' dragons weren't always friendly to humans.  Around 15 years ago, they attacked one village, leaving only ruins.  It was worthwhile to stop there for treasure because of the Running Shoes, an item that guaranteed escape from random encounters.

One tamer just before the entrance of the surviving Drake Isles village was fatal since I hadn't healed my team before she attacked.  The screen went black after her Level 23 Fire FELCLAW cast Explosion on HEDDECA after a long battle. . .

DEATH COUNT:  2

HERMAN had to exact his revenge with full HP.  The enemy opened with a Level 23 Psychic FELIBLANQO, probably the final form of MASQUITI.  Mind Control dealt a heavy 31 damage to HEDDECA per hit, while Soul Feeder got a lucky Leech effect.  Dark Flame finished off the Psychic starter.  Level 24 Fire type BLAZETILIA was next, so I switched to CRONCHO.  Water Blast drenched it for almost half its HP, while Fireballs singed CRONCHO for around 1/8 at most.  Explosive Water had higher priority and made an effective finisher.

LUMEFUR stared down the Level 23 Plant FLOREINA.  A Green Sphere buff was probably why the enemy recovered 25 HP after one Incinerate.  Still, Incinerate was enough to char FLOREINA and the following Level 24 HEDDECA.  How come Fire is super effective against Ghosts in Nexomon Extinction?  CRONCHO dodged a Blaze from FELCLAW upon switching in.  Water Blasts and Explosive Water drowned FELCLAW, though Fireball and Blaze wore CRONCHO down to red HP just before the end.  Nexomon Extinction is a game where even random tamers have 4-5 monsters.  Compare that to some Pokemon games where even the Gym Leaders only have 3.

HERMAN explored the cave in the village to get more shards, then talked to Xanders of the Tamer's Guild about subduing Lydia's disobedient dragon.  A Scientist who had once kicked HERMAN out of his house was now willing to give a Tyrant scent vial to him now that the proper event flags had been cleared.

Xanders put the scent on himself and drew out the dragon by taunting it:  "You hit like a Micromon!"  Level ?? DRACON was a Fire element monster that proved my team building was questionable.  FLOROZARD, HEDDECA, and FELARNIA were all weak to its type, while only CRONCHO was super effective.  CRONCHO wasn't as good as I'd hoped when it only reduced DRACON to 238/309 HP before it had to tag out to LUMEFUR.  My Fire cat's Incinerate roasted DRACON down to 170/309 HP before an Explosion knocked it out.

Next was FELARNIA, who also died to Explosion.  At least DRACON was at 127/309 HP by this point.  Explosion burst on HEDDECA for more than half its HP, and Soul Feeder hit for a feeble 18 damage.  Dark Flame burned for a 19 critical, and then 12 more as a Fire Cross and Explosion exorcised HEDDECA.  RAPNUX slew DRACON with repeated "Not Effective!" Gusty Storms, and only it and FLOROZARD survived the battle.

Nadine's shrine contained the power of Wind, but HERMAN would have to fight the child of Omnicron to get it.  "In the previous game, countless players complained about the difficulty of my boss fight!  The developers had to make me weaker!"  Is this a reference to the mobile game Nexomon?  Nadine appeared as VENTRA the Wind type with 315 HP.  My team was much better against Wind than Fire, and CRONCHO knocked VENTRA down to 193/315 HP with Water Blasts until Twin Tornadoes forced it to switch out.

But "VENTRA recovered some HP" and undid most of what CRONCHO had accomplished.  LUMEFUR's Incinerate scorched VENTRA for 45 super effective damage, while Wind Pellet tickled my cat for 11-13.  Glaze was more effective and pierced LUMEFUR with a 29 power icicle.  Once the final Incinerate was cast, VENTRA was at 77/315 HP.  HEDDECA finished off the boss, and RAPNUX finally gained its first Physical attack!  Super Punch has 90 power, 85 accuracy, and a 10% stun chance.  Moves seem to have lower accuracy in Nexomon Extinction than in Pokemon, and monsters in general are more durable, so 85% isn't as bad here.

CRONCHO battled wild Nexomon until growing to Level 29 and evolving into DOMIGATOR.  Its stats were on par with RAPNUX and FLOROZARD, so single stage Mega Rare monsters have the advantage over Rare Nexomon at lower levels.

EDIT:  Starters are Ultra Rare, so perhaps their final forms are superior to Mega Rare single stage monsters.  They have to wait until the mid to late 30s to get there.

Let's Play Nexomon Extinction Part 8:  A Short But Eventful Episode

Lydia pointed her katana at HERMAN and ordered him to battle her and the Wind Tyrant EURUS to determine if he was strong enough to confront the abandoned lab's secrets.  She opened with a Level 27 Wind type DRATTER, so I swapped from RAPNUX to HEDDECA to counter it.  DRATTER set up Wind Barrier instead of attacking on the switch, and HEDDECA killed it with 2 Soul Feeders due to a lucky critical.  Second was a Level 27 Water BLIZZAUR.  FLOROZARD struck with Fauna a couple of times as BLIZZAUR used the Physical type Spinning Kick.

When BLIZZAUR retreated, Level 27 EURUS appeared and I switched to LUMEFUR.  A Slashing Current missed my Fire type starter and each Incinerate seared EURUS for around 47 damage out of a maximum of 265 HP.  Twin Tornado only blew for around 10 damage.  BLIZZAUR returned and FLOROZARD knocked it out with a Flora.  LUMEFUR returned to duel against EURUS, but after one Incinerate, a Level 26 Mineral OREGOON took its place.  I switched in FLOROZARD as a sacrifice then brought in FELARNIA.

Level 26 VOLTAIC the Electric dragon showed up now and RAPNUX seemed like the best matchup.  Plasma Star hit for more than 1/4 of RAPNUX's HP, but its slow Super Punches were enough to knock it out when one of VOLTAIC's attacks missed.  RAPNUX was sacrificed to EURUS, but OREGOON returned when I brought in LUMEFUR.  Drill hit for 39 damage and a Double Slash mined the Mineral monster.

EURUS spontaneously recovered 100 HP, a considerable amount in a game where enemies had better defenses than Pokemon.  Two Fire Stigmas reduced EURUS to 165/265 HP as LUMEFUR fell to Slashing Current.  HEDDECA cast Soul Feeder for up to 45 damage, but EURUS restored its health once again.  When HEDDECA's HP was low, it cast Dark Flame with superior attack speed for around 29 power.  A Twin Tornado sent HEDDECA back to the grave, and it fell to DOMIGATOR to finish the fight.

DOMIGATOR cast Ice Assault in an attempt to freeze EURUS, but that never happened.  At least it hit for a 46 critical.  EURUS healed itself with what must have been a special move.  No enemy tamer has used items yet.  Explosive Water for 31 damage finally slew the Tyrant when DOMIGATOR only had 1 HP left!

Lydia revealed that dragon Nexomon were artificial creations of Amelie of the Tamer's Guild.  They were programmed to believe the docile EURUS was their king instead of Omnicron or any other Tyrant, but the safeguards often failed as seen in the attacks 15 years ago and in the present.  (Nexomon become insane without a king to rule them.)  This didn't stop Amelie from trying to create yet another Nexomon.

Amelie sent the "rivals" Ross and Nora to attack HERMAN, and Ross was first.  He led with a Level 27 Fire type NEKGIRI, and DOMIGATOR easily drowned it with Water Blast and Explosive Water.  Second was Electric type KAMELEVO at Level 26.  FLOROZARD pounded it with Fauna until it got to red HP, then Ross swapped to the Physical type CALPLEX at Level 26.  HEDDECA was the obvious choice here when its resistance lowered CALPLEX's attacks to 13 damage at best.  Soul Feeder slaughtered the cow.

A Plant type SINGLETTI at Level 25 defied its type disadvantage when it Pummeled LUMEFUR and Demotivated it, costing my cat 2 turns.  Fire Stigma destroyed both KAMELEVO and SINGLETTI once LUMEFUR was no longer depressed.

Nora attacked HERMAN without giving him a chance to heal after Ross.  Fortunately I had only used a few Nexomon in the previous battle, so several were still at full HP.  SNAIFLOW the Level 27 Water type was first, and FLOROZARD slapped it down to red HP with Fauna until a Level 28 Fire IMBUZI appeared.  DOMIGATOR dominated it in 2 hits of Water Blast, but at least IMBUZI put up a fight with Pummel before going down.  Level 27 SINGLETTI the Plant type came next, and LUMEFUR burned it with Incinerate and Fire Stigma.  Forest Energy burst for 16 damage, and LUMEFUR was at 30/88 HP over the course of two fights.

FLOROZARD eliminated SNAIFLOW when it returned, and FELARNIA cast Gusty Storm twice to bring down Level 26 Mineral type FORTOISE.  Meteor Strikes pelted FELARNIA for only about 12 damage.  Good thing my rivals didn't have many Fire types, or I would have lost!

Amelie accidentally told HERMAN her mad plan when she said "What proof did this woman give you that I created Vados?"  Lydia never referred to VADOS by name.  Oops.  Ross and Nora were furious that Amelie had deceived them, but VADOS sent everyone crashing down into Frozen Tundra.

Let's Play Nexomon Extinction Part 9:  Same Name, Different Move

Videll the miner from Frozen Lake returned to give HERMAN a new quest:  blow up the door to a bunker so Frozen Tundra's civilians could find shelter.  He fought more bandits to the east of town, but somehow didn't manage to complete the possibly broken quest associated with that.  An short ice cave contained the tutorial ghost, who was now challenging random passerby to Nexomon battles.

Tutorial Ghost led with a Level 32 FLOROZARD, which LUMEFUR Incinerated until it switched to a Level 30 Mineral BLIZSTRONG.  FELARNIA cast Gusty Storm and gradually lost about half its HP to moves like Crushing Boulder until BIZSTRONG tagged out to a Level 31 Physical MONKAPOW.  HEDDECA's Soul Feeder sucked away the monkey's HP until it reached red and a Level 30 Psychic DIVETTER took its place.  Soul Feeder inflicted Leech on DIVETTER and dropped it to red HP too, though HEDDECA took 27 damage from a Psy Blast.

Later on, HEDDECA's Dark Flame and Leech side effect killed DIVETTER, and a Level 30 RAPNUX appeared.  Tutorial Ghost stole 1/3 of my team ideas!  A single Soul Feeder spooked RAPNUX into switching to BLIZSTRONG.  After some gap in my Switch video footage, HEDDECA was seen casting Soul Feeder and inflicting Leech on a Level 30 Wind HYPHOON.

Leech kept HEDDECA alive as it wasted a turn recovering Stamina, and Dark Flame was the finisher against HYPHOON.  My FLOROZARD's Double Slashes picked off the enemy FLOROZARD and RAPNUX.  If my team is weak against Fire, Tutorial Ghost's squad had a terrible matchup against Ghosts.

HERMAN got a Vault Key as a reward for defeating Tutorial Ghost and was told that a vault was in the southern mine, but I couldn't reach it.  Maybe HERMAN needs to get Water powers first to freeze a pond inside?

Masked bandits were intimidating an eastern outpost building, but HERMAN only had to fight one of them.  The enemy began with a Level 30 MALITRESS Ghost.  LUMEFUR Incinerated it but lost around 30% HP to Plasma Star.  HEDDECA confronted the Level 31 Physical LUKUMA with Soul Feeder, but its Leech side effect is what finished it off.  DOMIGATOR tagged in to deal with the Level 32 LUMEFUR with Water Blast, though a Level 29 Electric EQOLOPTERA swapped in when the foe LUMEFUR was at half HP.

FLOROZARD attacked EQOLOPTERA with Flora and was Paralyzed for its trouble before LUMEFUR returned.  DOMIGATOR switched in again to douse the cat, and this time EQOLOPTERA couldn't evade Fauna.  Level 29 PHANTRA the Ghost type was the last opponent, and LUMEFUR ended the battle with Incinerate after taking 20 damage from a critical Black Flame.  The bandits fled and the former hostages gave HERMAN the Explosives for the bunker.

To the west of the village, two BLIZSTRONGs were attacking other tamers.  HERMAN jumped in and finished them off in back to back battles.  DOMIGATOR killed the first and FELARNIA murdered the second.  FELARNIA leveled up and replaced Gusty Storm with Glaze, which had 5 more power and a 10% freeze chance in exchange for lower attack speed.  Maybe a Wind solo would be viable too?

HERMAN detonated the Explosives with Fenrir’s power and Videll immediately noticed that the interior didn’t match the blueprints.  Someone got to the bunker before us.  A robot attacked the “intruder” with 3 Nexomon:  Level 29 BARBORACO, Level 31 MOLTANO, and Level 30 FORTANK.  The robot must have loved having a Water weakness, since two were Fire types and one was Mineral.

FLOROZARD leveled up and replaced the redundant Thorn Storm with Vine Whip.  Vine Whip is the sort of Grass move you’d use for the early levels in Pokemon Red and ditch after getting something better.  Not in Nexomon Extinction!  This Vine Whip has 95 power, and I was glad FLOROZARD no longer had to rely on a 60 power Fauna for every fight.  LUMEFUR evolved into the final form of LUMEREI just in time for Round 2 with the robot, who now had a ridiculous character model that was holding a dumbbell.

DOMIGATOR switched to HEDDECA to deal with the Level 29 LUKUMA, a Physical type.  Double Slash was ineffective against my Ghost and Soul Feeder sent LUKUMA to the afterlife.  DOM IGATOR returned to fend off GRATH, a Level 33 Fire monster.  GRATH had Fire Stigma and reduced DOMIGATOR to red HP before an Explosive Water outran the enemy.

FLOROZARD’s first Vine Whip lashed the Level 31 Electric KAMELEVO for 62 damage and a satisfying animation.  A second Vine Whip knocked out KAMELEVO and replaced it with the Level 31 Ghost mummy IMMORTIS.  LUMEREI burned its bandages with two Incinerates, and I took a break once the robot had been defeated.

EDIT:  Wow, Realms Beyond hates Times New Roman.  Had to convert it to Calibri (Body) in my Word file so you won't see hideous format tags in the post.

EDIT 2: Realms Beyond sucks and Smogon has better programming.  I can't get the spacing to look any better since it reverts even after clicking Update Post.

Let's Play Nexomon Extinction Part 10:  Hopefully Realms Beyond Doesn't Eat The Formatting

This session was action-packed and will be split into two posts. Stats and Equipment will go at the end of the second.

Deena told HERMAN it was time to release "Atlas" from its suspended animation, but Xanders of the Tamer's Guild showed up to eliminate her.  Deena was in fact one of Omnicron's children and a Tyrant.  Xanders charged at HERMAN and opened with a Level 33 Psychic SHARDBERG.  HEDDECA died early on since I had nothing that resisted Psychic as far as I could tell.  FELARNIA avenged its comrade with Glaze followed by a rapid Slashing Current.  HEDDECA wasn't completely useless since its Soul Feeder inflicted Leech.

The familiar BLAZETILIA appeared at Level 32, and DOMIGATOR reduced it to single digit HP with Water Blast until Xanders switched to Level 32 VOLTAIC.  FLOROZARD Vine Whipped VOLTAIC to death, but suffered almost mortal injuries.  FLOROZARD at least poked BLAZETILIA to death with Fauna before tagging out to LUMEREI against Level 31 Ghost CENTEROR.  Incinerate burned the Ghost and Xanders brought in the durable Mineral type RUSTUNG at Level 32.

RUSTUNG's Rock Wall blunted Water Blast after the first hit, but DOMIGATOR pressed on until Xanders sent in another Mineral type, the Level 32 TRESAUR.  Explosive Water missed on the first attempt to finish off TRESAUR, but DOMIGATOR succeeded on the second try.  It only had 3 HP left, but one final Water Blast drowned RUSTUNG and won the battle.

Blue Mirror was a tempting ability when DOMIGATOR leveled up, since it promised to reduce Physical damage and make it heal the user.  The other moves were too valuable to forget right now, however.  Even imitators of Pokemon suffer from "4 moveslot syndrome".  Some move descriptions say Normal instead of Physical, making me wonder if they changed the name halfway through development and forgot to alter some text.

Deena seemed to die, and Atlas the tiny robot emerged from its hibernation chamber.  It didn't impress Coco and the humans very much.  Meanwhile, Logan the mad scientist was talking to Amelie about their plans.  Logan wanted to capture HERMAN, but Amelie thought HERMAN was a backup plan if VADOS was too weak to defeat the Tyrants.

The next mission was the "Cursed Tower" to the north, actually the Tomb of Omnicron.  Merida the ancient Water Tyrant said humans were defiling the tomb and must be driven out before getting the power of Water for HERMAN's Tyrant egg.

HEDDECA evolved into its final form NOOCIDAL after reaching Level 36 in a battle with one of the masked Evil Team members.  Now it could finally keep its head on top of its body where it was supposed to be.  No better Ghost attacks than Soul Feeder, however.  The BEHILDA line must be one of the weaker starter choices.

One joke cutscene showed a Nexolord and two Evil Team members jumping off a ledge. . .and breaking their bones before being forced to teleport out.

The next section had four paths leading to boss battles.  A Fire themed room was first.  Level 32 SUNKNIGHT's scorpion shield couldn't block DOMIGATOR's Water Blast and the Fire Nexomon died in 2 hits.  FLOROZARD Vine Whipped a Level 33 Electric CROMEON light bulb twice and shattered it with Fauna while suffering from Paralysis.  An enemy Level 33 LUMEREI was next and switched out at the first sign of Water Blast.

Level 32 SKOUNQUET the Physical skunk fell prey to NOOCIDAL's Soul Feeder and Leech.  LUMEREI panicked at seeing DOMIGATOR a second type, but could only switch out to another Fire monster, Level 34 IMBURION.  DOMIGATOR was itself dominated when it lost turns to Demotivated from IMBURION's Pummel.  LUMEREI at 12 HP fried DOMIGATOR with Incinerate.  My own LUMEREI cast Fire Stigma to pick off the enemy LUMEREI, and Double Slash + Fire Stigma put out IMBURION.
"I wonder what that even looks like, a robot body with six or seven CatClaw daggers sticking out of it and nothing else, and zooming around at crazy agility speed."
