Pretty confident in the first two, lean MINT for the third but it could be a Blue Pirate word.

Unsure of the final word, the Goalie/Hockey +1. POUND being Red means AMBULANCE is unlikely. Which leaves NINJA - also a possible Pirate word! Aaargh.

In rough order of preference:

None of those nor Dice looks like a Hockey word, so I'm guessing New York is the final answer, as Washington was correct by virtue of hosting a team.

Ah, didn't even think of ticking boxes- Tick, Chocolate, and Day make by far the most sense to me, then.

Those were the three that stood out before spoilers. DAY is good and completely slipped by me, I like that more than AMBULANCE although I think it's kind of close due to BoxING day rather than BOX day.
Box of MINTS is also good. And direct. Gah, there are five that I like here, even if we take out AMBULANCE there's four.

As far as the Hockey word, I'm sold on NEW YORK. I know basically nothing about the sport, personally. I still don't hate NINJA, but agree that it's got a decent chance to be a Pirate word.

I'll start with chocolate and tick and we can go from there with more discussion.

The trouble with NEW YORK is why would you give us Hockey 3 for CAPITAL/WASHINGTON/NEW YORK? Surely City 3 would have been simpler and more obvious? Maybe it was because JR4 really wanted us to avoid NINJA. But then why would you start with Goalie 4, seemingly breaking WASHINGTON and NEW YORK into separate clues, rather than City 3?

The only explanation I can come up with is:

Goalie 4 was intended to be COVER/CAPITAL/WASHINGTON/NEW YORK, JR4 didn't anticipate us thinking of football/soccer (FRANCE/GREECE) or going in weird directions like SOUND/NINJA, BOLT was a complete fluke...
And Hockey 3 was an attempt to redefine Goalie.

Which is plausible. In that case, we might as well guess NEW YORK next.

Cuz I'm still torn between MINT and DAY! Boxing Day is a couple steps removed from Box, as Amicalola says...

I think I like MINT better than DAY, but I'm not super stressed about it either way. I feel better about either of those for Box than I do about NEW YORK for goalie (but maybe I'm underestimating the connection there - I think of hockey as primarily Canadian), so I'd do that first.

But honestly I'm fine with any of the three, with those stated preferences above. Azoth's stated reasoning for NEW YORK is plausible, but I don't know if it's very likely. But then neither are my ideas with NINJA being so plausibly red, so I won't object.
