So post-mortem.

The idea for wine and pirate where there almost from the beginning. I so blue tending towards POUND and NINJA, so intended to give a first clue that had nothing to do with those and was pretty safe to solve, so that the other team would guess them. Wine worked perfectly in that regard and I was very proud of your work with that.

Pirate was a bit harder. I thought maybe we can close this with just pirate. I was sure you would guess FILE and PISTOL first as they were obvious to me and you did just that. DAY was indeed meant as Talk like a pirate day as was NINJA with the pirate vs ninjas trope. I was surprised to see MINT so popular, which I didn't expect. I was aware that DICE might be connected with pirate, but was willing to take the rest.

Because of PISTOL and FILE being easy I was sure that I could easily close with night.

Also also I was a bit terrified how often PLATYPUS came up in the discussion

Post mortem

In case anyone wondered - I`m a big hockey fan. Sports and pop cultural clues are notoriously hard to get right. We grew up in different countries with different backgrounds. So we didn`t exactly get off to a flying start. Goalie 4 was meant to pick up COVER (obvious) plus WASHINGTON CAPITALs and then I thought NEW YORK was a given too. No one mentioned it but goalies are found in hockey, not in football where the equivalent term is keeper. At least Bob mentioned that he was pretty certain about the existence of the Capitals so we still had a fighting chance after the first round. NINJA didn`t cross my mind at all for goalie and SOUND less so, though NINJA is creative indeed. I underestimated POUND as hockey does involve a bit of fighting.

As Azoth mentioned, Hockey 3 was an attempt to reclue Goalie as there is no way that we`d have won without the intended city words. NINJA was pretty hard to clue for Charriu too so I felt like I had to try something to turn the game around. Box 3 was a last-ditch attempt to get CHOCOLATE and TICK (fairly obvious) and NEW YORK for the last hockey clue. At best I felt that the team would at least seriously consider AMBULANCE as a box-formed vehicle (though MINT is probably slightly stronger). I wasn`t too worried about DAY as that was too far away from the clue itself. But sadly, AMBULANCE was quickly shot down so that left only the last two words for red to complete.

Good game everyone.

Also, I must add that this round has taken a bit too long. As Charriu mentioned, there isn`t really any need to stop the game for several days and at some point you just have to keep the game moving.

Go for it!

Also JR4, in the US we use goalie equally for hockey and soccer, so that made things harder. The percentage of time I hear soccer called ‘football’ here is like 25%, but the number of times I’ve heard a soccer goalie called a keeper is maybe 1% of the time.

@sunrise089: Wow, I stand corrected. I had no idea that goalie is the most common term in the US.

@Tarkeel: Go for it. You could ask Pindicator for a grid.
