FYI, Rogue Legacy 2 is on sale for $15.99 until May 24th, when it will permanently price increase from $19.99 to $24.99. The new patch is great, the game is jam packed with cool features, and there is more to come, so if you have an interest in picking it up, this is a good time to do so.

I've played through all of the early access biomes and the game is fantastic - it's worth every cent. The devs have really added a lot of content and new biomes with awesome 2D graphics throughout early access.
What I like most is that the game is great for all kinds of players: You can have great fun just playing through the game as a casual player, slowly improving your castle. But then they also added new difficult challenges with a scoring system, which should keep even very skillful players entertained for quite a while aside from the usual NG+.

I agree with Gustaran. The game has a crazy amount of content and replayability. It's quite literally double or triple the size of RL1.

Version 1.0 has been released!
Currently, Metacritic score is 90% and there is a 20% discount available until May 9th if you are still on the fence about purchasing the game.
And.....there is also a new pirate class with a flying mini pirate ship!

I've been playing this quite a bit. I just started my New Game +3 last night. So much content and very addictive. Hard to believe I only paid like $15 for this game. There are like 13 classes with 7 more variants, which all play fairly uniquely. The biomes have a lot of diversity. And the end game content is insane. I feel like it would take around 1,000 hours to max out your manor and get equipment and runes +9 after cosmic overload is unlocked. Highly recommend.

Rogue Legacy 2 has been out for about a month now, long enough for me to complete a full playthrough and write up my impressions:

We don't seem to discuss games as often on the forums now as a decade ago but I share the opinion of Gustaran and Gold Ergo Sum that this is a really good game. Anyone who enjoyed the original will more than get their money's worth from this one. It's basically a remake where everything has been fleshed out and done better as compared to the first game.

Just to add to Sullla, I have put a lot of time into this game. I recently hit NG+18 and the game has remained pretty entertaining the whole time.
The ability to get three unity bonuses from level 9 equipment and 10 of the ideal runes has started to out scale the game a little. I went from struggling against the Prime bosses despite being 200 levels higher than the bosses, to completing NG17 on my first life with the Assassin (which I consider to be a weak class) despite being under-leveled. I have no-hit most of the base level bosses, and can mostly blow through the Prime bosses at this point, so it isn't just the scaling. Practice effects are real.
Great game. The variety of classes is really fun. The scar challenges provide even more content. The rune and equipment systems, along with the Soul Shop, provide a constant sense of progress.
I still have the last few runes and equipment to unlock, but I have all gold on the scar challenges, and maxed out the rune and equipment levels in the Soul Shop, so I have now moved on to some other games. But I still see myself coming back for some runs from time to time.
I easily put 200 hours into this one. Highly recommend.

Good writeup!
A few comments:
Sulla Wrote: That oversight has been fixed in Rogue Legacy 2 and now players can emphasize either Strength + Dexterity for physical damage or Intelligence + Focus for magic damage, with Dexterity and Focus being the stats that increase physical/magic critical strike damage respectively. There are exactly the same number of upgrades available on both sides of the upgrade tree which will come as a relief to anyone who wants to play a Mage or Astromancer in this game.
I think we should mention that at least IMHO currently there is still a big imbalance between strength and intelligence. At the start of the game, almost nobody levels intelligence and/or focus, since all basic attack weapons scale with strength. Intelligence only boosts talent and spell damage and basically the only class that uses pure spell damage as primary damage source is the mage. Most other classes benefit way more from strength. Aside from the mage only the gunslinger gets extra int scaling on his bullets, the chef has the burn effect and the bard the note explosion effect. That's not a lot, especially if you look at the most popular classes.
Word on the forums is that very lategame damage also depends on high crit rate with boosted crits. So unless you are a huge mage fan or want to play a variant, I would recommend to every new player to stick with the widely recommended strength/armor/hp stat levelling, at least in the beginning.
Sulla Wrote:Each item has five different tiers (from 0 to +4) although the highest versions of them won't drop until well into New Game Plus territory.
I can't say for certain since I am only in NG+3, but people on Reddit and Steam keep talking about even higher levels such as +9. (Edit: Just saw Gold Ergo Sum posted about level 9 equipment above.)
Sulla Wrote:It's a fun and interesting system held back only by an interface oversight: the player currently can't see how many tiers they have of each item without buying them ahead of time. For example, if you haven't bought the base Warden Chest, there's no way to tell if you have the Warden Chest +1 or +2, nor can you see the stats it would provide. This gets really confusing over time and I hope they'll address this since I'm tracking what stuff my characters have actually found in an out-of-game spreadsheet right now.
You are absolutely correct, I can't understand that this made it through early access, it is indeed mildy infuriating.
I would also like to add that I find the relics still fairly unbalanced, something like a war drum can be absolutely game changing when doing a full run.
I also have a bit mixed feeling about the apples, since they allow you to basically double your health over the course of a run. Now that's great if you are a highly skilled player and usually kill multiple bosses per run. But god forbid you need to use the architect to fight a boss repeatedly: Doing so without apples and relics is a lot harder than fully equipped after a full run.
