Is anyone else playing the .05 version of Civilization in DOS 6.20 on a 90's PC?

I did in 1994 or so, but not since.
I do still have a Windows 98 machine that can boot into true DOS. Last thing I played on it was Epic Pinball a couple years ago.
Oh yeah DOS 7.1 is what Win98 is bundled with, I also have a 1999 P2-400 running it. Currently I'm playing Civ 1 under DOS 7.0 (bundled with Win95) on my 1997 P-166MMX.
My DOS 6.20 386-SX 20MHz 2 MB RAM PC was the one I used to play Civ on until the HD stopped working a few years back : ( That 28 year old Quantum 105 LP gave some good service. Still hoping to revive it. The Civ dir on it was the original 1991 install. God I LOVE nostalgia.

Oh man, that takes me back.. I don't think I'd want to destroy my fantastic memories of civ1 and 2 (can't remember which is which) by trying to get them to work, though. Civ 4 took those gameplay concepts and just perfected them to an astounding degree; we'll never have anything like that ever again in our lives I imagine. I think a lot of people still want it, but it doesn't crank out the purchase numbers like the dumbassery of civ 5.
Spies or ambassadors or whatever were so obnoxious back then. And caravans; what a pain in the butt but so satisfying at the same time. The guys in the tall top hats, remember? : ) Always built those when the city was at its resource limit because they had no upkeep. Or the camels. Caravans... yeah was always fun to build one and then next turn send it back to the city that made it because I'd started a new Wonder there. I am a pretty rare civver. I've never played Civ 2 or later. The reason was simple. Civ 2 was the awful Windoze and I am loyal to DOS. I noticed that Sid Meier was an early switcher to Win. Most other classics were made for DOS (or both) for the remainder of the 90's. In some ways Colonization was the first real sequel to Civ. I discovered that classic rather late (2003ish) though.

Nice to see a thread here talking about Civ1 and 2 that wasn't created by me haha!
When I need to do something in the the Dos version of Civ1 I play in DosBox.. I have played it in original Dos for 20 years haha. Most of the time I use the Windows version of Civ1 now as while it was terrible before it's much better now thanks to the Dos graphics and Dos music modpacks for it made by fans. That way it looks and sounds like the Dos version but you can play it in HD resolutions on a big screen which is pretty fun. You can see it in action here: Although if you're a Dos purist who hated Civ2 for being a Windows game then I guess that this would not be of interest to you haha! I also discovered there was a bit of a Civ1 scenario scene a few years back that lead to some cool ones being made (the Dune scenario being my favourite). They all have Dos & Win versions and I cover them in the video too. I'm also been working on and off on a Dos graphics mod for Civ2 which has been a fun challenge considering one is 2D top down and the other is 2.5D isometric. https://www.moddb.com/mods/civilization-...demastered
