[Spoilers] Biggus Decius and the Sucking Vampires (Bobchillingworth / Calabim)

DaveV Wrote:I'd save the tile you're currently irrigating for last; since trees aren't growing on it, there's a very good chance it contains a hidden special: copper or horses if you're lucky, mithril if you're not. Next turn, the worker does one turn of roading on the pigs, then starts irrigating the floodplains the following turn. Keep those workers busy!

Sound advice, but unfortunately a second lizardman has joined the party:

He must have arrived from the fogged forest tile to his east (the one where he wouldn't have to cross a desert to get to his present position). I could have moved the worker as you suggested, but that would have put him in too much danger for my liking, as the lizardman would have been in a position to force me to flee my worker to my capital or risk a likely bloodpet loss trying to cover him on flat ground.

I have 5 bloodpets now, three are combat I, two are unpromoted (but one has a single exp, so I may try to get a lizardman to attack him at Prespur, using another unpromoted bloodpet as back-up in case I get a really low odds loss.

Next build will be... another bloodpet. should take approx 4 turns. Assuming none of mine die in the interim, 6 bloodpets should be enough defense to begin work on the settler, cover the workers, and have a garrison ready for when the settler completes.

By the way, the mass of barbarian flags in the south are all bears, which suddenly dispersed from the lair last turn. I have them at 5 as of the most recent counting.

Which means another Ruin. There is a fine line between free XP and having your hands tied frown.

Big news of the turn was that I met Selrahc:

He said that he had already met all of the other players (!), and kindly gave me direction to their capitals:

* Archduke is apparently very close to my East, perhaps as near as 6 tiles from my border (!!!), although that would mean that Chicken was very close to meeting him before he died.

* Sarlen is to my north. He explored the Letnum Firgus before Selrahc could reach it, which I was told remove its bonus for all other human players (so no free aggressive trait for Selrahc). Never knew that, if true.

* PB is further west, past The Archduke.

* Cull is somewhere to the North East

* Selrahc himself is between Sarlen and PB, in the North West.

It sounds like I have whatever lies to the East and South East to myself. Very close proximity to the Hippus is a serious concern, I may have to consider a moroi assault if he's too near. It's also worrying how well Selrahc has scouted so far, although he alleges "luck".

Well he was not hampered by stasis so he could risk a bit more scouting than you.

Hi!

I'm hoping to do some analysis of the players' positions in this game, and to do so, it would be nice to have some comparable figures. Turn 50 (a nice round figure) is up and coming soon, so could you upload a few screenshots (city view and overall), and describe your situation at the end of it, please?

1) What are you building in your city\cities? What tiles are you working?
2) What is your current research and hammer potential?
3) Do you feel you have been affected much by Stasis? By River of Blood?
4) What techs have you researched so far?

Thanks a lot!

P.S. I'm posting this in every player's thread, by the way.

I'll gladly do so- I actually enjoy reporting for this game smile

Big news, indeed yikes!

Bobchillingworth Wrote:Sarlen ... Sarlen
Sareln. No need to make anyone mad by misspelling his name.

Bobchillingworth Wrote:* Archduke is apparently very close to my East
From the rest of the post, I assume you mean West?

Bobchillingworth Wrote:Very close proximity to the Hippus is a serious concern, I may have to consider a moroi assault if he's too near.
Only if you have to, or he blows his world spell killing someone else. Moroi are only marginally better than regular axemen, and will suffer huge losses attacking Warcry warriors defending a city. Archduke picked the "builder" Hippus leader, so maybe he's willing to coexist peacefully for a while.

Bobchillingworth Wrote:It's also worrying how well Selrahc has scouted so far, although he alleges "luck".
Well, it's easy to get things snowballing if you pop a unit from a hut, pop more huts, etc. This would mean he's probably picked up a few free techs along the way. A less troubling scenario: the elves and dwarves both move double speed through their preferred terrain: maybe they found Selrahc instead of vice versa.

Oh, and one more thing [/Lt. Columbo]:

Shock promotion on an exploring warrior? This gives him better odds against two of the weakest units he'll face (skeletons and barb warriors), and is of absolutely no help against the really dangerous units he'll face (spiders, griffons, lizardmen, etc.). Maybe Selrahc had a good reason for this promotion, but I'm hoping it reveals a weakness on the part of one of your opponents.

Bold for emphasis. Shock is a fine promotion in many circumstances but not for an explorer.

I wasn't sure about posting, but since this isn't a RBP game I'll say something non-spoilerish (because I don't know why the promo was assigned) but that may be new info:

I often promote my scouts poorly. Specifically, particularly with a 1-mover, I may be forced to move into the open. If I do, and there is a barb unit next to mine, I will promote for best odds short term. C1 alone outside of a forest isn't great against an equal strength warrior, so if he landed next to one I think the Shock promo is understandable.
