To change the subject. What should happen with Haiti? Both Darrell and I agree US is really bad at intervening places, but when it can't get much worse? But you don't want to prop up an illegitimate government. But there is mass human suffering. I don't know what the best path is.

Read the wiki article on U.S. military operations and it’s a long list of protecting our interests with little in the way of altruism. Read about the American occupation of Haiti from 1915-1934 for example before thinking maybe we should go in. For fun, here is a list of full blown wars and my grade on whether they were moral / effective (e.g. the Revolutionary War was mostly moral and very effect achieving the long term goal):
Revolutionary War: 7 / 10 Cherokee War: 0 / 9 War of 1812: 9 / 2 Seminole War: 0 / 7 Mexican/American War: 0 / 10 Civil War: 0 / 0 (South) & 10 / 10 (North) Hawaiian Invasion: 0 / 10 Spanish-American War: 6 / 9 Philippine-American War: 0 / 2 WW1: 7 / 5 WW2: 10 / 9 Korean War: 7 / 7 Vietnam War: 2 / 1 <— biggest moral difference with Korean War being lack of UN sponsorship Gulf War: 6 / 9 Afghan War : 6 / 3 Iraq War : 0 / 2 Darrell
