That is why Diablo 2 is interesting once you delve beneath the surface a little. Sometime it seems a little over complicated for things that seem irrelevant. But it is not over complicated such as D4. D4 has 100 thousand things that buff the player a 100 thousand ways. But all it is just a huge spreadsheet, that doesn't translate to real game play. There's no nuances. In the end, it all end up a slaughter fest - you walk by and monsters die instantly by the thousands. Sure you can achieve almost the same power-build in D2R (you can see where D4 is heading from D2R development) but without the veil of false sophistication, aka, over complication, via a 100 thousand item mods, paragon board, renoun, feats, statue discoveries, glyphs, yada yada yada. You don't need skill, you just need to plug in the right numbers in the spreadsheet.

In Classic Diablo and D2, you can feel the differences of minor adjustments, in game play, of course more so in Variants. The system is dynamic.

While a little theory crafting is fun, the proof is in the game play. A Pul gives +75% damage and 100 AR vs Demons. Demons are everywhere, and all act Bosses are Demons. This also goes hand in hand with Laying Of Hand, later. I am guessing a Pul will serve best but I am open to making changes as I go.

I am not so much worried about mobs since I have AoE via Thorns. Why Jah is not on the top of the list.
The biggest thing that work against Ber and (Chance To Cast) Static Field is Sacrifice's slow single attack. That amounts to once every two seconds IF GGGx has AutoHit. Chances are, these effect don't go off at monsters' full health. And I am hoping they don't need to go off more than twice (It would be painful for GGGx to take a beating this long). At least Static Field is AoE. These effects are still valuable vs act bosses.

I will try to hold on to the Cow King set as long as possible for style points. I am also open for a new set up in (late) Hell. A GFace for Crushing Blow if I can get decent ToHit. Maybe suit up for a Clay/Iron Golly for more Thorns goodness. Life Tap from Marrow Walk would eliminate the burden of weapon swap.....

I somehow got Ohm and Pul confused, thought you had said Ohm. smile

Pul is worse than the other options, I think. The 75% is only additive with other damage % modifiers. You already have roughly +300% from slvl 3 Sacrifice and strength. Pul goes to 475/400 of the damage before it, which is a relative increase of only 1.18. That's about the same as the other options (the AR contributes a bit too), but only against demons. And if Laying of Hands is also there, Pul is also only additive with that and tiny compared to it.

I agree that in D2 execution is king and it's not about over-spreadsheeting, but calculating the right approach can help. smile

No change in set up since Act2. It's a good sign that the act bosses are still chewing up GGGx's merc like a rag doll. (as if GGGx is feeling no pain himself rolf ) We will certainly run into many obstacles while running these Variants. Mostly, the more the better! We can look at these as problems to solve, but, not as problems to be solved. They hopefully challenge the creativity in problem solving, giving the brain a little workout the break the routine. We don't necessary want to solve the problems, at least not completely, else the would defeat the purpose of playing Variants.

I mean, we can easily solve GGGx "dilemma" by suiting him or his merc up a super tank while letting the other one feed the Thorns. Similarly, if he has no ToHit/Leeching problems, the game would be much easier. We can only hope to find the right balance for both challenges and fun.

GoGoGadgetX VS NM Diablo

A change of rags for the merc now that he can put on a Treachery rag. GGGx also switched his random +1 Pally amulet to Saracen Chance, for the 10% Chance To Cast Slvl 2 Iron Maiden. The setup remain pretty much the same from Normal Act 5.

It's good to see Iron Maiden goes off occasionally that GGGx is getting a proper spanking. alright  Tho, I am not so sure about the merc's Treachery. He does okay with resists atm before Hell penalty, maybe he is better off with his old Boneflesh's 5% Leech. Now, where did I put that Skin Of The Flayed One?

GoGoGadgetx VS NM Ancients & Baal

The Ancients are still pushovers

Baal @ Clvl 57
Messy messy, everything that can go wrong, did. Almost
Note: monsters are hitting GGGx hard, taking big bites of his HP
Baal was desperate and pulled another dirty trick out oh his helm.

GoGoGadgetx Gets A Beating In Hell

The difficulty jumped up for GGGx right at the start of Hell Diff. Even with his Life Tap up, leeching 50%, can hardly/barely keeping himself alive. 50% of pitiful damage, minus monster resistance, minus ToHit% is less than a mosquito bite. Even his merc says he's not getting paid enough for this sh*t.

I am actually relishing these moments. This is what it's all about. I am not stopping to upgrade...

There are a few items coming up into play at Clvl 63-4. We will tough it out until then.

Yes, that's Tiamat's Rebuke to add more excitement to the GFX
