Okay, enough talk about China, especially in a US Politics thread. Let's talk about US.
Why the big fail in the Maui fire?
So we have a choice in the next election between an orange hyena who is about to be jailed, and a senile old man who goes blank and keeps falling down. Who is going to win?

I just did.

I don't know if he is completely senile, but he is super old and I really want the person who didn't try to overthrow our democracy to win. There are other reasons, but I've argued before there is a pyramid of how you should vote.
Tier 1: Preservation of our democracy
Tier 2: Major corruption and strengthening democracy
Tier 3: minor corruption you preferable get rid of said people in primaries. Normal political issues
Tier don't fall into this trap: culture wars.

If this really was a democracy, surely people would get to vote on issues?

So people get stuck on the differences between a direct democracy vs a representational democracy. The US is a representational democracy. Don't get me wrong there is a lot wrong with our representative democracy, but I will argue tooth and nail it is better than an autocracy (and have done so).

The difference between a representational democracy and an autocracy seems to be that the representational democracy will get incessantly proud and shrill about insisting that everyone else would be better in a representational democracy. Both systems can also simultaneously be totalitarian, and indeed "our democracy" is only becoming more like the governments it criticizes over time.

Oh I agree America has been doing some back sliding. The difference is we can protest and vote and hopefully prevent further back sliding.

And then we have former US House Speaker Pelosi (83) running for re-election to Congress, and that other guy who freezes all the time...
How these old folks hold on to power, are there no one in America? Or something is wrong with the system?

You say that while actively telling people their priority should be to vote for the party and people responsible for the legislative backsliding.
