Teammate makes equal decisions for the team, and is expected to play "roughly" half the turns, or have a decently large amount of impact such as maybe one person is the main turn player but the other one does a bunch of spreadsheet work or plans out the turn on discord/thread/ect. A dedlurker is someone that reads only your thread, and gives advice from an unbiased point of view. Tips, tricks, "where would i settle" stuff like that. (i believe this is what it is)

Interested to join, but would prefer a start in (early) January, as I'll be travelling end of December..

Ya I know a lot of people travel around Christmas which is why I said after that. Fine waiting another week until new year.

Don't let them scare you off too much. If you connect your cities with roads, ask your ded lurker questions, and keep the turn pace you'll already be doing better than SaC in PB65.
In any case can I kindly get someone to volunteer to ded lurk Rickety? (I never let a new person go it alone first game) Greenline is somewhat green still and besides I want more players!

Yeah, i dont do spreadsheets... and i won a game! (technically i think Oldharry won that game for me by doing spreadsheets to set me up for success...) BUT STILL.

Greenline volunteered to assist me, at the same time as declaring himself to be not a very good player ? Maybe having a not so experienced team mate would be less of a culture shock ?

edit: main motivation for signing up would be to force someone to sit me down and explain to me when the heck i'm supposed to be taking these "drill" promotions

Mainly when you're already winning so hard that you don't need the promotion. In general, mounted units (which are very common in MP) ignore first strikes. There is some reason to take them in the industrial era when horses disappear though, but mainly if you're PRO and get the first one for free.

Well you are on the sign up list now, sooooo 
Aetryn used on some cannons in PB72 to give them better withdraw chances to try to keep most units alive as possible, but that was indeed in a situation where he was already heavily favored in the battle.
