As someone who can't even get even sized carrot pieces this is overwhelming.

There are better carvers than me but we are different breeds. I mainly work with attributes of the vegetables such as how a celery will curve when cut a certain way; others are pro carvers (ivory, wood etc.) who just happen to use a fruit. KoP
Solar Maximums - Extreme Solar Storm Hits Earth
I hope everyone got a chance to catch some aurora delight last night. This was the most intense aurora activity in my memory, that I was able to capture the Northern Lights looking South. I have stayed up all night and these two are fresh out of my processing 2 hours ago. I am hoping I got some nice time lapse too. Please enjoy these for now, but most of all, I hope you go out tonight and experience it yourself. The storm seems to be holding and should be just as intense to night. These photos were taken 10:30-11m so no need to stay up late. EDIT: the storm seems to have fizzle out by the afternoon. And picking up steam again around 7:00 PST. Keep watch here: https://services.swpc.noaa.gov/images/au...sphere.jpg I haven't named these photo yet. Any suggestions? . KoP
Looks like I'm a few hundred miles too far south to see it for myself tonight, but those pictures are amazing!
Partly for Master of Orion reasons, partly for real life reasons, I would suggest as a title for one of them, "Planetary Shields Are Up!" (Which picture I would use it for depends on whether or not you want to imagine the art piece in the second shot "raising the shields.") Sadly no aurora for me. I did take a drive a bit north to get out of the light pollution with my two oldest (7&5), but didn't really see anything other than some light over the horizon. To be fair I only parked for like 20 minutes because small children.

Some of the more time consuming/complicated pieces I am quite please with this one I invented quite early in my practice. When Simplicity does not mean simple (more about that below) When the whole is greater than the sum of its parts When its time to enjoy the fruit of your labour And yet, surprisingly, the most challenging task is to peel the carrot heart out of the carrot without damage. Or, to peel a coconut out of its shell, in whole, without damage. This is the best I have managed even with applied physics. I suppose if one day I succeed I will have to carve a master piece with it. . KoP
Finally have some time to go over and process the series of time lapse images. I am still kicking myself for not having taken 2 camera setups that I was made to run back and forth the two main points of view, having to refocus, re-frame, and cutting each series short. You can catch a couple of meteors and the Starlink zooming by.
One of these frames is currently hanging on my wall. . KoP |
